How to Solo Trapdoor (Spoilers)

Spoilers ahead:

During Mender Ramiel's arc, you'll be sent to take a certain item from Trapdoor. He lives in the Council map that's used at the end of the Ernie Hess taskforce. You go down lots of shoots and then go to where the giant MechMan USED to be on a platform in the middle of the lava.

During the fight, you'll receive messages that Trapdoor has Bifurcated and is regenerating himself. Each Trapdoor Bifurcation that spawns substantially boosts the original's regen.

There are a few ways to take him down while solo. He's not got a very high damage output and is relatively squishy as EBs go. His ability to boost his regen is really his only real strength.

Method 1. Knockback - The best and most reliable method I've found for keeping him from spawning Bifurcations is to knock him around like a pinball. He goes down like a line of dominoes if you keep him on his butt. Lots of folks seem to dislike knockback for some strange reason.

Method 2. -Regen -Regen debuffs like Twilight significantly reduce his ability to heal, even with bifurcations around him. He'll go down pretty steadily if you can get these dbuffs on him.

Method 3. Line of Sight The Bifurcations don't move around a lot, but if you can keep Trapdoor moving after you where his Bifurcations can't see him, they can't boost his regen.

Method 4. Lava Lava damages Trapdoor quite a bit. If you pour on your own damage while he's standing on it, you can frequently overcome his regen if he only has one or two Bifurcations around him.

Method 5. Hallway If none of the above work for you, try pulling him out into the hallway. He'll still spawn bifurcations, but they'll usually appear out in the main room instead of in the hallway with you. If they do appear in the hallway, take them out quickly and get back to your main target.

What about just killing the Bifurcations as they spawn, and beating on Trapdoor when they're not around?

I found that almost as soon as I defeated one, he had spawned another.

I guess it depends on your DPS. If you have enough, you can beat him down without even bothering with the clones. I was on an All-Human Warshade at the time, and I was able to make quick work of the clones and get back into the fight. The timer felt between 45 seconds to a minute between Bifurcations.

If you have enough DPS, you can just stand on him and beat him down while ignoring the bifurcations entirely.

I've also heard you can pull him down the hall. The clones will continue to spawn on the catwalk and won't affect him.

They do indeed spawn fast. When I was beta-ing I19, Trappy would often just swan dive straight into the lava. Never saw a bifurcation, not much of a fight. On live he spawns them at a ridiculous rate. I attempted to solo him in my Defender and gave up after he had about 15 bifurcations running around. At the time, I didn't think to try to pull him out of the end room to the hallway--I just found a team. :/

Holds are another option. He didn't seem to have PToD when I fought him on my Dominator, so I just held him and let loose. He didn't spawn anything once he was held.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

My fire/Shield scrapper and Mind/Fire Dom made quick work of him. Once he was held I dropped him fast

Here is what I did so far.

1. Poor AI pathing syndrome: Got him stuck on the rocks in the lava. Sat there loling while he slowly died in the lava while I just stood around and watched.

2. Smash Poisoning: I Smashed him with my scrapper's fists.

3. Buff/Debuff: Got a defender to join my controller and we blew him away in 6 seconds.

V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

What happens when you do that? Do they merely stop regenerating Trapdoor, or do they actually buff your regen?

Ooo this needs testing.

I beat some on Trapdoor, killed the thingie he spawned, beat some more on trapdoor, killed the next one, and finished him off. Found it rather easy, never understood all the moaning about him tbh :|

The three times I fought him in the open beta, I didn't really have any trouble killing him. He did really like running around though, so sometimes I had to hunt to find him after killing a bifurcation. I never used the lava.

I killed each clone as it spawned, which seemed to be every thirty seconds or so.

I did this with my Mastermind. Defeated him in 6-7 mintues on my first try. Used 3 green small inspirations I picked up along the way. Not because I needed to, but because respawning pets is a pain.

This whole "How do we destroy Superman?" council on Trapdoor is weird to me. Are Masterminds that much stronger?

I just pounded his face in and when he spawned a clone annihilated them and then continued to pound his face in till he handed over the shiny.

No - I'm a Scrapper, and I can take him down in 30 seconds

A MM or scrapper can just run in and beat him to death without caring about the bifurcations.

For everyone else, I just pull him to the hallway.

Although I was not able to take him with my emp/dark blast defender. Even with Dominate, if he got free he would 2 shot me. And this was in the hall way far from the clones. Not sure what I was doing wrong there...

Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind

OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!

I didn't have any trouble with him on emp/dark/psi, but I was hover-blasting and I immobilized* him pretty quickly, so he never got in melee with me long enough to do much. He hits pretty hard up close, I gather.

*Yes, in the lava, but I blasted the copies, too, just for good measure.

On my AR/Dev I just kited him around in the lava, popped some purples to dodge his attacks and killed the cone thingies as he spawned them. Pretty dull to be honest.
