How to Solo Trapdoor (Spoilers)
Get a controller or a dom to help out. Anyone who can get to ouro can help, lvl 25+. Not being lvl 50 doesn't prevent a toon from participating in the Incarnate arcs.
Spam holds on Trapdoor and get any bifs that show up. He won't make bifs if held. |
That was plenty for defeating Trapdoor. I also used them against whats-his-name.
*(OK, I also got myself a Clockwork Connection, and a Vanguard HVAS; perhaps a little overkill...)
I have tried to solo him twice now:
First on a fire/fire tank with 2 snowbeasts helping. I gave up and ended up calling in a friend on his scrapper after a 30 minute stand off.
Then on my earth/storm controller using no temps. He went down in a few minutes. I honestly thought he had been nerfed in the patch that occured between the two.
My conclusion- sufficient holds make a big difference.

Trapdoor requires movement and positioning while applying damage and those are much easier to do on a ranged character.
Now all of this goes away on a team, having two melee people means one can kill him, one can kill the clones and that makes it a lot easier.
I agree. He's fairly easy to solo with some combination of ranged attacks (which make it a lot easier to deal with the bifurcations), slows, holds, confuse or knockback/knockdown. He's can be significantly more difficult to solo with a melee character.
Having soloed him on a number of characters, I would expect the easiest would be something like an ice blaster or a controller/corrupter/defender with slow powers and the hardest would be a melee character with minimal knockdown/back. A slow moving low damage character like the stone/stone tank mentioned above might be the hardest of all.
My fire / fire dom KBed him into the lava and beat him down.
My traps / dark defender walked up to him, called him a sissy, and dropped him much faster than my dom -- he doesn't react well to 2 acid mortars, gas trap, and stacked 'trop patches (with four damage procs!)
The most straightforward strategy seems to be KBing him into the lava.
Let's see...
Brute: Hurl + Mu Lightning = dead bifurcation, Rage + KO Blow = dead Trapdoor.
Blaster: Significant amounts of fire = dead bifurcation and Trapdoor.
Crab Soldier: Crab = dead bifurcation, pets = dead Trapdoor.
Those are the only ones so far. In no fight did Trapdoor ever bifurcate more than twice, and he never had two out at once.
I do think ranged helps; I've got a 50 BS/Regen Scrapper I haven't run through the arc yet. I might, to see how lack of ranged changes the fight.
De minimis non curat Lex Luthor.
I've pretty much given up trying to solo Trapdoor with RoboTank.
Robo can hold his own - the majority of his 50 levels were done solo - but doesn't pack enough punch to do any real damage to a self healer like Trapdoor.
Similar to comments made by earlier posters in this thread, I've tried all sorts of tactics in an attempt to beat him (including those posted here) but nothing seems to work. At one point, with a stack of damage inspirations, and some temporary powers, I managed to get him to the 50% mark, but no further. Even my usually reliable stuns weren't holding him for long enough.
It's not a major problem for me though - the incarnate stuff is interesting, but it's not something I'm overly fussed about doing. I might give it a try again when Issue 20 comes out, but I've dozens of low level characters to play with. I'm having more fun with the Alignment stuff these days anyway.
The very nature of the incarnate content does lend itself to tough challenges such as this though, so I think it's probably at about the right level.

Hm, I really haven't had a problem with him on my melee characters.* Now, I'm saying that from the perspective of putting out the DPS to out pace his regen (while also keeping his Bifurcations down). Was the difficulty for melees about this damage output, or more about how much damage Trapdoor lays out in melee range? I definitely don't think he's a chump at pumping out damage.
* I do not have a level 50 tank yet. All my melees are high DPS characters like Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers.

Thus far, only one toon, my stripped EM/EA brute (using just SO's), had issues. Long fight, but still finished.
EVERY toon I have, including my TA/A defender (nominally my weakest character) has soloed him without problems using inspirations.

I'll have to see how it goes. My Tanker isn't a slouch at damage, what having the Energy Melee secondary. He's currently basically all SOs, though. The real problem with that test is that he's 43, and I'm not currently working on him.

I posted this when I ran it on my tank:
I just ran this again, this time with my EM/INV tank. It was basically an exercise in maneuverability (and thank goodness I swapped in Combat Jump when I rebuilt for I19). How fast can I locate and down a bifurcation (and actually LAND on the platform where it is) then relocate Trapdoor. Early on this went well, as the bifurcations spawned in the same area. I had him down to about 2/5 health and thought he might give up in just a few more hits. He bifurcated and I made the mistake of not going after the bifurcation immediately.
I realized my mistake too late; delayed on that clone set me back on the next, and then they started spawning where I had to find them. Slow on a couple more and he was right back at full health. After a few of minutes of this (some might call it battle, some might call it...tedium), I happened into the lava and he followed me. I figured what the heck, I'll just stay here. Otherwise I might be at this forever. Managed to get him stunned and that was about it. Final bifurcation count: sixteen. |

well trying tonight with my rad/rad defender. with rian(ma/sr, set bonuses but nothing nuts) wiped the floor with him. no significant offense, he bi'd once, but they are really weak and i just dropped it with an eye beam followed by a vet blackwand. the next attack chain dropped him.
with violet (plant thorn dom, modest ios) also stomped him quickly. holds helped, she was in dom and he ouldnt move the whole fight.
with my first incarnate, my emp/lit defender i got a team and we barely noticed him. will see how my def solos him tonight.
ok, and results, it was slow going. with my toggles he really had a hard time hitting me(though given the heavy hitting nature of energy melee, when he hit, things got ugly) but good lord he spawns fast, with the lower damage it was noticeable. now with my knockback capacity in rad blast, i was able to get him in the lava, he isn't that hard to convince, and keep him knocked back a good percentage of the time, but i have a lot more sympathy for people's issues. and when he actually beats you and you have to run back, good grief does he bifrucate in your absence a lot, usually 5-6 and thats just running from the oro portals to the crystal. so now i understand a bit of people's complaints, still won, but if i were playing a defender without knockback/down, i can see some difficulty
In my case, my Tank couldn't outpace his regen. Even knocking him into the lava and hitting him repeatedly with Envenomed Dagger, if he had even one bifurcation out, he could out-heal my damage. If I ran off to kill the bifurcation, by the time I got back, he was ready to bifurcate again. It wasn't that he was killing me, I just couldn't make any headway.

Taking out the bifurications is easy, but as JKCarrier experienced, by the time I got back to Trapdoor, he'd regained what little health I had knocked off him.

Just thought I would mention, if there are players still having trouble with this guy, the Toxic Dagger invention temp power has -regen.
I really should do something about this signature.
