What bugs me most is how in the world this interacts with the Silver Surfer mini a few months ago about the High Evolutionary.

I enjoyed both stories, though, even though a squat fundamentalist christian is a slightly off-putting herald.
  2. I have to say, I was surprised when there wasn't a magical "it's all fixed now" at the end of Fear Itself. It seems like those cities really were devastated and those people really were killed - unless there's a crossover somewhere that I missed that restores them.

However, as ChrisMoses has already said, it really would not make sense to outlaw the super powered in response to the events in Fear Itself. It would be like outlawing superheroes because Galactus attacked.

As for clamping down on groups like AIM and Hydra... aren't they already doing that? I mean, the last couple arcs in Secret Warriors if you want an explicit example, but I think it's assumed that terrorist super villain organizations are always a high priority.

I actually enjoyed Fear Itself more than most of their recent big events. I mean, it was almost the same story as Chaos War, but executed much more skillfully. There was no deus ex machina, no "it was all a dream" ending, and although it hit all the usual beats, it was still compelling. So I say well done on that.

The one complaint I have is that the events in the Journey Into Mystery crossover didn't play a more important role in the story. I really liked that whole arc up until it turns out Loki's whole plan is some nonsense about making him remember a girl. I think Loki could have played a much bigger role as a trickster hero.

But I really don't think this even signals any big change for Marvel. They just happened to write a good event where a lot of people get killed. Expect the next few to be not as good, and then another good one at some point. That's how most things go.

If your metric is how accurately they're recreating the comic book character, then yes. If your metric is not looking like a *********, then no.

My god, has no one mentioned Zombie Nightmare?

Go watch Zombie Nightmare. It's available streaming.

    Do it now.

Kind of a shame. Could have made a great control set, with the best pet ever, now that we have doppelganger technology.

But I'm sure it's still great.
  8. Wow, I just assumed this was cancelled, because it has some of the worst writing and acting I've ever experienced in a TV show.

Also, I was sorely disappointed that it turns out they really are just aliens. I really thought there'd be a more interesting explanation than that. Maybe there still will be.

Having said all that, I'll probably continue to watch it on Hulu as a way to shut my brain off for 45 minutes.

I suspect a lot of the deal with ratings is that you have to make a strong start or you're in bad shape. A lot of viewers drop off if you don't capture their attention right away, and it doesn't matter after that if the show improves.

But I agree - I was initially very dismissive of the show and was just watching because it was brain candy to space out to, but it's actually gotten really good. Still pretty cheesy at times, but nowhere near the saccharine sweetness that it started with. I hope it squeaks by.
  11. I just happen to stumble across this thread, and wanted to pop in to say that these are really well done. You have a great sense of exactly how much detail to include without getting bogged down, and exactly how much game play to show without becoming tedious. A couple previous attempts at video reviews have really failed at that. I really enjoyed all of them and I hope you keep it up, although I'm guessing that they're quite labor intensive to put together. These made me want to shift my time back to CoH and the MA.

On the topic of how popular these are, I think you have to manage your expectations a bit. These will only appeal to a niche of a niche (CoH players who use the MA), and you'll only get requests from yet a further niche (MA authors who put effort into their story). I would consider doing reviews without requests, if you're comfortable with that.

    Keep up the good work.

    Venom #1 preview

Seems like it has a pretty heavy-handed political message.
  13. I have a three day pass. I'll try to get video of the panel, but I probably wont have it up as quickly as with NYCC because I won't be in, you know, my apartment. But I'll try.

It's my first PAX. I'm not really sure what to expect. I usually only go to comic book conventions. I mean, what's the swag? But I'm pretty excited.
  14. I had to post this somewhere, and this seemed like it might be the place:

There's a surrealist party game called "Draw and Fold Over" in which you fold a piece of paper into four vertical sections - the first person folds it such that they can only see the first section, then draws a head, extending the neck lines down slightly to the next fold. The second person fold the paper such that they can only see the second section, then, continuing on from the lines the first person left on their section, draws a body. This continues on with the legs, then the feet.

Much to my delight, someone's put this on the web.

What results is usually a very entertaining and surreal image, and as you start getting more unconvential, they start getting more and more surreal.

    So here's mine.
    http://www.drawandfoldover.com/drawi...aign=draw_fold

I've started on the head, and you can continue with the body. When you're done, email it to yourself (they'll prompt you) and post the link from the email here so others can continue. It'll work with however many people want to do it (more than one person can continue on with the same head), and it wont reveal your email address - you type in whatever name you want for attribution, but it will email you when someone has completed a drawing you started. You can see the finished image only after all four segments have been completed.

    Or, start a new one.

Browsing through the gallery is quite fun too: http://www.drawandfoldover.com/

I don't know if anyone'll bite, but I couldn't resist posting this. I've been obsessed with it all day.

People saying the pack sucks because of what's not in it is starting to get to me for some reason.

Consider that they have finite resources and can only put so many things in the pack. What would you take out in order to put in Reptile, Aquatic, or Insect parts? Birds? Minotaurs? How many people would then have the same complaint about those pieces? In other words, saying that the pack doesn't include something that is completely unrelated to things that are already in the pack is not a valid criticism of the pack. It might be a good reason for you not to buy the pack, but it is not actually feedback on the pack - at best, it's a suggestion for a different pack.

Of course, they're going to be in the same situation for a lot of these boosters, and the animal pack is probably the worst for it. Everyone has their personal favorite animal piece they'd like to see. Whichever handful of animals they chose to put in the pack, they were always going to disappoint a large number of players that didn't get their rhino head or their rat head or whatever else. I just wish more people would realize that the devs are in the tough position of having to choose a tiny number of animal pieces out of the vast number of actual animals.

    Haha, I loved that.

As far as her role choices go, let's not forget that she became popular primarily through the terrible Star Wars prequels.

Loved this review. That game has some of the worst controls I've ever experienced in a game. The permanent mouselook and lack of click/tab targeting is super, super annoying, to mention just two. Also worth noting is the horrible annoyance of super speeding around a lamp post. Lot of good ideas in that game, none done well.

I predict F2P in the next year or two. A good thing, IMO - it seems to work well for other MMOs.

I had wondered how the movie would handle that. Again, I didn't imagine that they would want to specifically call Thor an actual g o d. Well, it seems that they decided to go with "they're space aliens."

I imagine that Thor's mystic bond with Mjolnir-- which even the Celestials found worthy of respect-- will now be explained as Mjolnir being a very well-programmed piece of equipment.
I think it's a reasonable way to have a movie that takes place in the slightly more realistic universe that Marvel is creating out of their Avengers franchise, but I agree it is on shaky ground. I would have felt more comfortable being from an alternate plane or something, rather than just a straight up alien. At the very least, it raises my pet peeve question of why does he look exactly like a human, then? Maybe there'll be a bit more nuance to it in the movie.
  21. It actually looks better than I expected. Nice and understated. Of course, it's pretty easy to make an appealing trailer. But I do think it's an opportunity to make a slightly more serious, thoughtful X-Men flick. I'll definitely see it, even though I think the chances of it actually being good are pretty slim.
  22. The detail on those things look amazing. I'm especially pleased with the wolf and minotaur heads. Just really well done.
