Yep. A bit behind. My ex-wife and I met in this very game. That was so long ago that she's now my ex-wife.

    VEAT question

No, the character has to be a natural villain to unlock a VEAT. Getting to 20 on a praetorian doesn't unlock anything currently.

I'm trying to find an updated guide on power sets. I'm also going to look into how they differ from a corruptor. All in all, I think this time I might go ranged. It would give me a new outlook on combat, and I'd be squishy, which would add depth to gameplay. I can't just ROFLSMASH my way through things. Now I just need to decide if I want to be a blasting DPS machine or take some support instead. I'm leaning towards support. I do like grouping.
The damage Corruptors are capable of with their buffs is pretty amazing. A secondary with either self damage buffs(like Kinetics with Fulcrum Shift) or enemy resist debuffs like Dark or Radiation is pretty impressive to watch. They're also much more survivable than blasters in most cases.

I can't believe I didn't think of this in my previous post, but if you already have a villain over level 20 you also have the villain epic archetypes unlocked. The Arachnos Widow and Soldier archetypes are fun sets to play through. and they both have several different build variations available.

The Soldier starts out as a more Arachnos Huntsman type character, using a rifle and grenades. Once you hit 24 with the Soldier you're given a forced respec to rebuild as either a Bane or Crab spider. Your original powers are still available, so if you want to play as a Huntsman style character into the end game you can and it's a totally valid choice for them as well.

Widow starts out as a mostly melee character with claws, and at 24 you're given a forced respec to choose between either the Night Widow or Fortunata path. Just like Soldier you're still given access to your original powers, and they're a big part of playing a successful Night Widow build.

With dual builds, you could go with a melee and ranged build for both and switch out based on how you want to play that day, though that can get expensive to enhance if you're trying to purple them out in both builds.

edit: I remembered why I didn't think about it before. You mentioned you wanted to do the new praetorian content, and the Hero and Villain Epic Archetypes aren't available to start in Praetoria. They're still really fun though, if you haven't already given them a try i'd recommend it.
  5. Adding to what they said, if it doesn't matter to you which badge you get for completing a patron arc Black Scorpions is, in my experience, the easiest and fastest to complete. Finishing any of the arcs unlocks all of the patron pools now, so it doesn't matter which powers you're after when choosing a patron.

    ITF and pets?

We were down to just Rom and his healing Nictus. I was spamming hold and ranged hits on the nictus and dropped my PA to finish off the Nictus. As soon as I did this, a teammate yelled "NO PETS!!!". Nothing else was in aggro range.

What am I missing? Please enlighten me.
A lot of people think PA can still be tapped for the heal because when they are hit by the Nictus the animation still goes off even though it doesn't actually trigger the heal.

Ah well. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything more stupid than usual
The only ones I see people talk about nowadays is the creeper vines from Plant Control because they can just pop up en masse and give the Nictus easy targets. Really though, any team that's worth a damn would still just roflstomp Rommy into oblivion even with the vines providing easy heals.

If that's what you're looking for I would suggest a whatever blast/dark miasma corruptor. My fire/dark corruptor is pretty much tied with my illusion/kin controller for my favorite character.

Dark is a moderately active set with lots of debuffs and control. Twilight Grasp is a heal with some nice -regen, -damage and -to-hit built in. The control in the set comes from Tar Patch, Howling Twilight(the rez, but the rez is secondary to most dark players) Fearsome Stare, Petrifying Gaze and Black Hole. I tend to skip Gaze and Black Hole since my dark character is an AoE machine and Gaze is a single target hold and black hole is an AoE phase shift. It's got two toggles, Darkest Night is an anchored damage and to-hit debuff. Shadow fall is the other, toggle aoe stealth defense and resist buff, I find it really useful, especially when stacking defense abilities.

I paired it with fire for the awesome combo of powers that is tar patch+rain of fire+fireball+firebreath. I built him almost specifically to melt romans in Cimerora.

A Dark Blast/Dark Miasma/Dark Mastery Corruptor/Defender is a pretty awesome sight in the late game too There is a lot of utility to be had in that set.

Mostly internal development for my own enjoyment. In past cases, I've kept notes in a book, and ended up with some pretty interesting characters when I came out the other side, without spending any time actually "roleplaying."

I did spoil a little bit of the tutorial for myself. While watching the Matrix Revolutions I rolled up a trenchcoat wearing, dual wielding, cliché looking bad*** and did some running around. I stopped immediately when I hit the first major decision, I don't want to go any further yet. I do appreciate the choices though. I thought it would be very black and white, but after reading the preliminary choice, I was pleasantly surprised. With the right mindset, it could go either way. Who knows, I may end up on the opposite end from what I expected when I do get out.

In terms of what I'm trying to do. I don't want anything complex. A good base is simple questions like: Why do I have these powers? Do I like them (gifted) or hate them (cursed)? There's more, but it usually leads down one of two roads. I feel it is my duty to use these powers to their full potential (hero), or I am **** off because my life is ruined and all that jazz (villain). Very vague right now, and I can tweak it, but I guess I have to choose some power sets before I can get there.

In terms of what I played before. I had 2 characters with one focus. The main character was a Willpower/Martial Arts Scrapper. Flip toggles, get in there and beat things to a pulp. I liked only having to worry about one power set, willpower took care of itself, but it get very repetitive, very fast. My Villain was a Robot/Force Field Mastermind. At first it was cool that I had an army of awesome looking robots, and the group fly animations were cool looking to me, but after awhile it seemed that they do most of the work. I was also pretty horrible at remembering to refresh bubbles. I guess I need to strike a balance between ease of use and activity level. I'm not going to kill myself with actives, but I don't want to sit on auto pilot all day.
Those two characters were probably the worst ones to pick if you wanted a challenge lol.

I would suggest a dominator or a controller for something different from what you tried last time. Plant Control can be reeeeeeeeeeeeally fun especially as it gets higher up. pair it with something like Storm and watch the chaos reign.

You could go more active and play a Kinectic. They stay incredibly busy, especially on a corruptor or defender.

I'm redoing a concept of Spring Heeled Jack via a Victorian Batman style character. Claws/Nin/Weapon Mastery. Maybe Pyro Judgement for his "fire breathing" not sure on that, if I could find a temp power that was easy to replenish involving fire blast of some sort, that would be preferable. Sadly scrappers/stalkers don't get breath attacks in the Leviathan Pool!

Basically taking /Nin for the gadgets since he's a Natural Origin Victorian gadgeteer/street fighter type.

I admit CoF is the best way to get the Fear aspect in there but I sacrifice 2 toys (I could get the temp power Smoke Flash for the one lost in /Nin). The rest of /Dark seems pretty none Natural to me but I'm sure I can explain most of it away and keep most effects turned off in PvE. EDIT - now that the servers are up and I can double check that, I can't minimize the effects. I was thinking I could similar to Invuln. So that takes /Dark off the table for me for this particular concept.

As an aside - is there any sort of Fear proc in IOs? Hrm.
Some of the pictures of that guy would make awesome tattoos.

I would actually like to see the FX in PVP Only option for everything that isn't an attack/pet/pseudo-pet.

It would open up a world of possibilities for people to play sets they would otherwise be turned away from because of the visuals.

In my case, Fire Armor and Thermal Radiation. I hate the fire effects. Like I HATE them. So much so that I've been tempted to ask a thermal not to shield me because of it, though I don't for the good of the team. I dislike them So much that no matter how awesome a build I can come up with or how much fun the sets could potentially be, the fire effects on the body ruin it for me completely. I will never play those sets. Now, if we had an FX in PVP Only option for the toggles and shields, I would probably have several of them at 50 by now because I love how they work mechanically.

Also. the Super Speed animation and the aura on flight. C'mon, can we get rid of that flight aura already?

Also, does this reward apply to the courtyard containers as well?
I am 99% sure it's once per mission, and the rare drop is only on the first time you get the badge, every time you meet the badge qualification after you've got it you only get the astral merit. It has to be during the sabotage stage of the mission to count, the courtyard containers do not count for the badge.
  14. QR to OP

I thought the same thing, but it happened to me once already when IOs were introduced.

I'm sitting at ~20 50s give or take, and a lot of them were before or shortly after IOs were introduced. When they came out I shelved about half of them and focused on my main Controller and a Corruptor to take to purples and blow billions on. Others were done on a budget and to challenge my building prowess. Like a Perma AM/Hasten on a Rad/Sonic defender that didn't use purples, or getting my tank to the HP cap without outside buffs. There were around 7 or 8 characters that I ended up focusing on for IOs.

Now that this new system is in, everything but my main Controller is on the back burner. Once he is done i'll focus on my Corruptor. After that, I MAY focus on my Hovercrab, but I probably won't bother with any others unless I get really bored with my two main characters. Since they're my favorite two to play I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

That's my plan, Paralytic for teams and Reactive for solo.

I'm thinking about skipping the slot all together until I get the others where I want them. Mostly because I only have three damaging attacks, Blind, Spectral Wounds and the AoE mace attack from Mace Mastery. If the slot effects pets I'll be more inclined to pick it up sooner rather than later though. Phantasm is always out, and my spider-bot and PA are perma'd too, so if they gain a bonus from the slot it'll be a big boost in my desire to actually do something with it.

well, if they're projecting themselves, that would be psycho-babble, not techno-babble. Because, you know, they're psychics.
  17. Do the procs carry over to pet damage like Phantom Army? I'm fairly sure they do for Phantasm and other permanent pets, but I haven't seen anything about PA yet.

We haven't been in operation that long. But if our presence has managed to influence in any way the implementation of the PHS I see it as a bittersweet moment.

We've demonstrated that such a system had a place in CoH, with our 150 registered mentors, our neophytes who benefited from the project, and other volunteers.

    That's a good thing.

But on the other hand, with a system built directly into CoH now, it's hard to see a future for the Mentor Project.

    What do you guys think?
I'm split as well. I think it's a great feature. I do prefer our global channel if for no other reason than it's the project home. Heck, I'm still flying the Paragon City Mentors flag on Justice.

    What was that?
It sounds like you're talking about Stygian Circle, the Warshade ability that heals you a bit for every dead enemy around.

None of the incarnate abilities do anything like you're mentioning.

The Judgement slot is an aoe attack, the Lore slot is pets, the Interface slot adds a proc to your abilities, and the Destiny slot is a group AoE buff.

    Edit:

None of the Darkness Mastery or Soul Mastery abilities for Scrappers have anything like that. Dark Melee has Dark Consumption and Soul Drain, both of which require living enemies. Dark Armor has Dark Regeneration and Soul Transfer, both of which also require living enemies. Soul Transfer also requires you be dead, so that's not it.
  22. One thing that always got me was that Siege and Citadel looked alike in the first place. Of all of the praetorians they should have been the two that were different. Citadel is in his current body because his previous hardware was was destroyed in the Rikti war and replaced with a new one made from a power armor suit.

Since that never happened in Praetoria, shouldn't Siege have always looked completely different from the version of Citadel we all know and love? When I saw the new one in the BAF, I thought to myself "It's about time he was changed. Let's hope this carries over to the other arcs."
  23. From my experiences with it, the only thing that increases Judgements damage are -resist debuffs on the enemies. I know Fulcrum Shift does nothing for it, and I haven't seen popping any number of reds increase its damage either.

edit: Though my testing is with Void, not Ion.
  24. The black spots, especially in grandville, are a texture/driver issue, I've gotten those for years now. The UI blink is new since GR for me, but I would be willing to put cash on it being related. Be sure your video drivers are up to date.

If you're seeing things like this(Any of them, but specifically the Half-Life image, since that sounds like what you're experiencing on the launch screen): http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html

Your video card is likely going bad.
