Discussion: Tier 9 VIP Reward - Celestial Armor Availability
What do people do now when they have filled all T9VIP slots?
At least if you are able to pick them while not having the Reward Tree filled, you can start filling your reward tree. People who have the Reward Tree filled will still have the same problem with their tokens in my suggested revamp, as they have now.. what to do with all those left over tokens? |
Why do people keep bringing up the fact that current owners of the Celestial set "got to have it first?"
Costumes don't make the game easier (nor harder), they don't offer buffs, they don't make influence rain down upon you. The only difference between those that have it and those that don't is a couple of extra decisions to make in the costume editor. How is that a perk worth saying "Well, you've had it longer than I have, so it's ok to make it non-exclusive." I say, if there is going to be such a thing as T9 VIP, make that VIP mean something, and make it stick. Whatever rewards you put in there should stay in there, or you lose what being a VIP means. Being able to play Incarnate content, not having to pay for SSAs or certain powersets, or anything else VIPs already get for subscribing has nothing to do with the reward system. If you want what a VIP has, become one, spend the money to reach T9 (like all the rest did. When they spent that money has zero to do with anything, they paid for the privilege), and enjoy it. If you want the costumes bad enough, pay up. Paragon shouldn't change a thing. In fact, they shouldn't put any of those costume sets on the PM, or anywhere else outside the rewards. If you're not willing to make VIP exclusive like it's supposed to be, don't do it at all. |
Let us decide what rewards we want. This shouldn't be Paragon's decision. There's no reason to 'remove' them and then gate them beyond some other requirement down the line. These were advertised, ADVERTISED, as your T9 VIP Incentive and Reward.
Are you going to turn around on that now, Paragon? Keep in mind the key word; these were advertised as T9 VIP Exclusive Items, with the sub-text of being removed and added again, with no real explanation on how, at a later date.
And since you made it an option to 'buy into' T9 VIP, I think a term MIGHT apply to this that nobody wants to use.
TL;DR - Leave Celestial in T9 VIP. Don't remove anything from T9 VIP. Let US decide what sets we want, not YOU. Not EVERYONE can use Fire/Ice or Mecha. So far, these sets fill AT niches well.
Mecha would basically be largely a Tech/Science thing. Fire/Ice is a bit more broad with 'some' level of Magic, but mostly it's arguably a Mutant/Science thing. Celestial is most likely the Magic standing one. Maybe a Natural one if you tweak the colors.
You have no reason to remove Celestial unless it's THAT damaging to the Reward Token UI. Leave Celestial Alone.
I can understand leaving something for T9 VIPS. I get it. What I don't like is making the rewards some of the best stuff in the game. To us costume types, it is awful. Many have wanted the mech and celestial-type stuff for years. Well, we get it and it gets stuck behind the T9 VIP wall. Paragon will not extort me into climbing up the Token ladder and drop a ton of cash. Not happening. This was the final screw over. I sub ends in a while and I will not be renewing - this was the final straw. If anyone else feels as strongly as I do then join me in this protest and make sure you note why you quit in the exit survey.

So when Celestial was introduced as t9-only and thus out of reach, you weren't mad enough to quit, but when it's announced that it will no longer be t9-only and thus you might be able to obtain it, that's the last straw?
Edit: Blah. I failed the original system. 5 a total year. 5 x 4 = 20, at minimum. Then one per month since freedom. You should be... fairly close, yes. Likely in the high 20's or low 30's at this point. More if you've done any purchases.
Either way, you're RIGHT at the doorstep or just put your foot in.

Continually adding new sets and leaving them all available breaks that design, and goes right back to the old problem of a tree becoming so large that new players feel the higher levels are completely out of their reach. Stopping at a fixed number of sets means there's nothing special at the top of the tree for long-term VIPs.
Any solution is going to have to address the issue of providing T9 VIP rewards without building an infinitely expanding reward tree.

The problem is that with Freedom, the reward tree was restructured to cap the height of the tree, which providing desirable repeatable rewards at the top.

I am a VIP player with less than 2 months to go to finally getting this reward and now I find it`s going to be replaced by something I have absolutely no interest in.I am on a very limited budget but manage to find enough money to stay VIP .When they say other means of getting the reward,I'm worried that it will be a way that requires buying more points that I can't afford.I save my monthly points to buy new powersets.I just want to say that I hope they pick a new way to get this reward that doesn't require spending points I don't have left after using them to buy all the new powersets.Being a loyal player for over 3 years should still get me some free rewards because it seems being "just"VIP gets you less than it used to unless you have more money to spend on top of your monthly subcription.I will always keep being a VIP and playing this game as long as it's around,as it's the best game out there in my opinion, just don't penalize the VIP's who can't afford to pay extra for all the new stuff,we are still paying every month to support the game.
Why don't the devs put something like the retro sci-fi pack as a reward over the mech or celestial. We have had many iffy costume packs released over the years (Carnival and it's few pieces; the mutant pack was meh; the pocket D pack was ok - IMO).
|
Every single other pack was greeted with general, if not universal, enthusiasm.
Why have, IMO, the best costume packs (mech and celestial) at tier 9. Perhaps they could make one of the rewards something like shield wall or glad armor procs (or some other rare IO). |
Not MOAR POWER, not inventions, not 'content', nothing.
Also costumes make the perfect premium, conferring zero competitive advantage, real or perceived, on the recipient. It can be (and remain) as exclusive as they like without affecting play balance one iota.

I actually like the idea of the sets being rotated out and put on the market at a later date. T-9 VIP's get early access, then later down the road those of us that are not T-9 have a chance to get them as well (after some of the best costume ideas for those peices have been used). I'm good with that. It makes sense to me, as well as good business strategy. Earlier one poster said he dropped $100 to get to T-9 for the celestial set before it rotated out; All I can say to that is that marketing did its job well. If they REALLY want to make a "set" and keep it exclusively to T-9 VIP's thet should make a set of the Signature mob peices that everyone wants and lock those to T-9 VIP (and never rotate them out).
Like I've said before the Tier 9 VIP items should have < and > options.
This way you could rotate the Tier 9 VIP around to bring the Tier 9 VIP selection you want to the front, you would get to keep all the options available...
Now regarding availability via other methods, after a set time have the Tier 9 VIP sets drop from Gold (Exclusive) status to Silver (Limited Alternate Availability) through to eventual Bronze (Now In Packs Etc.)
All the options should remain in the Tier 9 VIP selection list with the latest options cycled to the front by default.
Anyone else agree?
The only thing I'd like to know at the moment is, how long before i23 goes live?
I realise that by not giving a time frame it'll make people that can afford to purchase more points 'panic buy' so they get the entire set, but... it'd still be nice to have some advance warning of weeks/days or a rough estimate of 'next month' or whenever.

Only thing about that, you are stepping on PS toes in terms of "cashflow." I am almost positive that these rewards will hit the PM and I a fine with that, not because I am T9 VIP but because other players should have access to those items too. They have the ability to pay for them, but they choose not to, much like I have decided on alot of PM transactions. That is our choice as individuals.
So for those crying over these pieces: you either get the PP's to buy them or wait for them to come back. If I want something that badly, I get it, if I can afford it, otherwise I'll get it at a later date when it's best for me. Hell I am still waiting on Powerslide to hit the market, but I ain't paying 800 PP for it...
Just another reminder that this will be happening. When we have a better idea of when, we'll let you know.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I would complain that I didn't get the options of 4 packs of $5 bills instead.
The change machines at work don't really like $20 bills.
And I am too lazy to buy $5 of crud to get $15 in change .

2. If you are going to lead a protest you may wanna actually state FACTS regarding why you are protesting instead of spreading false DOOM.
3. I will not be joining you in your protest, but if yer going ...can I have yer stuff???
Just another request to give us a confirmed date of removal, for the sake of anyone who wishes to buy into Celestial just before it is removed (IE: if they won't be getting their next token before the patch, so on.)
Honestly, there was never going to be a rotation of T9. They should never have said that. That always sounded to me like a completely unfeasible idea that someone tossed out there that was then communicated to the Community Team in error somehow.
Clearly, they are going to want to keep coming out with new things for VIP T9 in order to keep T9 people subscribing. If they didn't, then people would complain.
The fact that, down the line, they will continue to create more new VIP T9 rewards infinitely means that at some point it would have become completely unfeasible to rotate that tier in the way they originally mentioned. That's one of the first things I said to my husband when they mentioned that. At what point does it end?
It was always clear to me that they'd have to eventually come up with another avenue to get those costumes out there if getting them to people when they were replaced in T9 was something they wanted to do. It makes complete sense to me that they end up in the market for some amount.
Don't get me wrong, they said something and then changed their minds (essentially), so I understand why people are upset. However, I think it's something that people on all sides should simply have thought through a little more when it was originally announced. Logically, everything could not have rotated forever; so logically, another solution would eventually need to be found. Better to have put more thought into it and come up with a better plan from the first set that is being replaced (Celestial), than to have left things in limbo until we'd replaced 4 sets and people started to wonder when/where Celestial would reappear.
Keep in mind that it was never said when (that I saw, may have missed it) Celestial armor would become available by another means. It could still be vaulted for another 6 months or a year before becoming a permanent market fixture. It could be available for 1 week every 2 months, or something. It could be earned with Emp Merits, which would keep it VIP anyway. We just don't know. Wouldn't it be better to cool off a bit until more information becomes available?
