Also, good news about the VIP offerings being up for grabs some other way.

Just an aside to people who consider people that criticize the VIP sets being locked off as having entitlement issues... I think it is a reasonable criticism that the fancy sets they have held back within the VIP options are too fancy to be held back.
It's both positive feedback and negative feedback.
Sure, we can see it as great that they'd throw longtime vets (or large point buyers) such lovely bones... but it is also cutting off some really great and popularly desired options.

Whether that is super cool of them, a shrewd business move or possibly a mistake is for the ancient grazgul zemphlotts, and their infinite wisdom, to decide... Since beings of their kind never post here, we'll just have to argue about it amongst ourselves indefinitely.

Is it more of an entitlement issue to want something or more of an entitlement issue to feel as though their money and time earned something that's being kept away from the common riffraff?

Well said. None of the costume items us 4 year vets get can compare to the tier 9 stuff (although samurai is pretty awesome). So, I guess the people dumping that money in must be kinda on the expendable side? Not as worthy? Lesser players? I'm not sure lol

Perhaps they should lower the threshold and say it's free for players that have put some money into the game and pay for free players.

Rewards are rewards. Sometimes they reflect the money invested or time spent "supporting" the game. The more money/time invested, the greater the reward. Seems like a pretty logical equation to me.

NCSoft decided that Mecha armor pieces are special enough to only be offered (at first) to tier 9 VIPs. I am not a tier 9 VIP, but I have no problem with this. I've been playing, on and off, since late Aug 2004 and feel like a pretty long-time, loyal customer (overall). Yet I am not filled with outrage for being treated like riffraff just because super duper cool mecha armor pieces are behind the tier 9 VIP reward wall (and yes, I do think they are super duper cool and look forward to getting them for my own characters). If anything it gives me incentive to keep playing until I unlock tier 9 VIP rewards.

The problem isn't with NCSoft's reward strategies, but with the attitudes of customers who think they should be in charge of determining those strategies (so they can get what they want, when they want, for whatever extra cost they deem acceptible--usually none at all).

The foul odor of entitlement that comes wafting from people who think the world owes them every privilege and every benefit for no extra effort or cost continues to astound me. If this is all it takes for NCSoft to lose a their subscription, then I dare say they were bound to lose it at some point anyway, for any number of completely innocuous reasons. Keeping such players "happy" is usually more costly, business-wise, than they are worth.

You're right. It is their company and they can do whatever they like with it. However, we are entitled to voice our opinions. I really don't understand why people try and counter one person's opinion with their own.

Some of us have been asking for mech armor for years and this is what we get? Really? Yep, I am not happy about it. I am letting Paragon Studios know it. I am sure they aren't too concerned with the backlash as I am sure they expected it. The only way they would really make a change is if they did something so unpopular that many people quit over it. That hasn't happened.

Yes, the guys and gals that have tier 9 unlocked should get something. They have sunk in a ton of cash towards this game. I don't think this is the best reward to offer; packs coveted by many for so long (mech and celestial). It was bad enough they did it with celestial and then they went and added mech to the mix too...a bit too much.

Anyway, it really is a shame. It really creates some dislike towards the Paragon group.

Moving forward, and ClockworkO1 can confirm this or correct me, all sword like objects will be built on the Titan Weapons measurements. This allows them to be easily scaled for use with all Sword types.
Not even gonna give a passing shrug to bows huh?

While a... mecha... bow... would be interesting, I don't think it's a weapon that the concept evokes to most people. They tend to choose the weapons in a given set based on it's thematic relation.

Yeah, mechs with bows are totally unknown.

Mecha Armor: Approved.
On to-do list: Power Armor AT.

Halfway there!

I'd settle for a Mecha Epic or Power Pool, with the Macross missile swarms and maybe an omnilaser or two. Even a missile spam Judgement would be pretty nice!

the macross missiles would be very welcome. the effect is in game, with the malta and assault bot, we just need it as an option for players. ideal for me would be as an alt animation for munitions mastery lrm missle. I could work with it as a judge too...in fact maybe id prefer it be a judge since that is across all ats.

Deal with it.

I am a tier 9 VIP and will remain so; however I disagree with having to STILL pay for a sub and just about....everything else on top of that. That shouldn't be what VIP-ness is about. With that said, appreciate Zwillinger's input on the situation.

While the missile blasts from the Titans and Assault Bot are part of that, what I was really thinking of was the IDF's Heavy Trooper missile barrage attacks. In particular, the version of the Heavy Troopers that originally appeared when Issue 18 hit. They had a placeholder version of the IDF troops at the time that you only faced in the Tina MacIntyre and Maria Jenkins arc, and this version of the Heavy Trooper didn't have the unfolding Y-rack backpack. They replaced these with the current version when Issue 19 hit.

What it did have was a lot more missiles. The animations for the Missile Barrage attacks were crazy, with missiles just filling up the screen as they spammed the things. I remember missions where it was downright difficult to see because of all the missiles flying and smoke they were throwing up. It turned fights, especially ones in long corridor rooms (like that long Praetorian laboratory map), into chaotic messes because you'd be having team members becoming disoriented by being unable to see the enemy through all the smoke and missiles. It was awesome.

They really toned this down with the new version, to the point that sometimes I wonder if it's even firing missiles on-screen anymore. There's certainly none of the constant missile spam.

The thing is, if we had access to some kind of Macross Missile Massacre Judgement or a Power Pool or Epic that let us fire off a big AoE burst of missiles, I'd want it to be that crazy. I want an attack that involves a physically impossible, absolutely ludicrous number of missiles going downrange. I want Missile Spam.

These are some _very_ nice multi-purpose pieces. nice high-ish leg boots, just bulky enough. Ans some nice tech backpacks that we are really lacking.

And in that lies the problem, these aren't "premium" pieces, these are useful general-purpose pieces that fill a hole in COX's costume range.

If I hadn't hit Tier-9 at the freedom launch I'd be pretty miffed.

Y'see that chain-mail? _That_ is a "premium" set, it's nice, useful, but ultimately just an improvement on what we already have (Like the hearts and excess plus patterns), anyone who has a "fantasy" idea that could use it could make do without it, the Mecha pieces, not so much if you want to build an armour/robot-looking character you're stuck with the clockwork pieces (And the huge boots set I can never remember the name of) and some of the Ascendant pieces.

Whenever Paragon Studios offer anything that "players have wanted for years" in a form that's gated behind something like the tier 9 VIP thing there will always be some people who dislike it. As you say I'm sure Paragon Studios expect some amount of "backlash" in this case.

On the other hand one could make the case that a significant number of people "who've been waiting for years" for these things are -already- tier 9 VIPs precisely because they've been playing this game for years. Sure it's hard for us to guesstimate how many people are currently tier 9 VIPs but it's probably safe to say there are enough of them around to justify making this a tier 9 VIP award in the first place. The Devs wouldn't spend a huge amount of time and effort on a new costume set only to have a couple of people be able to play with it.

I remember playing this game for around 2.5 years before they released ANY kind of wings for anyone Vet or not. Sure it might be hard to have to wait for these cool things but at least we have the -option- of paying for them right now if you want. This game need long term awards that are worth getting - the Mecha set will now be one of those awards.

Am I the only person who isn't excited about this set at all? And is actually a little miffed that by the time I qualify for T9 VIP the only set I want pieces from (Celestial) will likely be pushed out by a set I don't really want at all (Mecha)?

I'd be more excited about the mecha set if Dual Pistols was improved to go along with it

Everyone's unhappy about something. If they kept Celestial on you can bet someone would find a way to complain about that.

Makes me kinda glad that i unsubbed, because there was *NO WAY* that I was going to be able to afford to pay £110(ish) to get up to Tier 9 VIP status unless i decided to also wreck my plans for the summer (LRP season).

Hell, just paying month by month for the tokens via subscription is cheaper (only £8.99/month), but takes longer for them to arrive. Even a multi month subscription (even cheaper on top) still takes the same amount of time.

Yeah, kinda pissed off with that as well..

*shrugs*

Personally, looking back at how this has gone, i would have preferred the "old style" with the ability to "buy up missing months" over the "cycling out of rewards for an indefinite amount of time".
