Quote:I was just going to quote this one myself when I saw your second post."Nano-Armor cloak is now 25% damage resistant at ranks 1-4 and 30% at rank 5. Please keep in mind there is still 70% of that tank round that can remove your spleen. Don't worry though, we can replace it. These things grow on trees. Literally. Spleen tree. Tell your friends."
The PlanetSide team always did have the best sense of humor out of Sony's arsenal. Glad to see they've kept up the tradition.
I'm still awfully hesitant to give them another cent of my money after SWG though. And suddenly people around here will think I'm a little less crazy-obsessive-grudge-holding for that sentiment. Hah! Oh wait, I just made myself sad again -
Quote:The only one I can think of was the brief "stay of execution," of sorts that Shadowbane got after fan petitions were made. The servers remained up for... two? months longer than originally announced, I think.Just wondering, how many MMOs have ever been "saved" by a fan campaign? Anyone got the numbers on that? Or, if it happens with CoH, would it be a first?
Edit: After a google search on the title, I have just learned that after 3 years of being dead, Shadowbane is being resurrected by a Chinese company, so... that's something, I guess.
This lead me to an interesting Massively article on this exact subject: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05...-back-to-life/ -
I answered $500, because I love this game to death, and if I saved up for it (which I would), I could make that work, but I just can't afford $1,000.
From what I have seen, typical lifetime subscription options run in the $2-$300 range for a product you have probably never played before, so I guess I could see $500 for a game you already know you love being acceptable, but that is still a pretty high number. -
Farewell, Zwil. I'm sad to see you go, but hope that you find everything you're looking for in your future endeavors soon.

Question: I've had a user account on the Paragon Wiki for years. I think I remember reading something about that being integrated into a Titan account or something, but I've never attempted to learn the ins-and-outs of that whole system. Could you explain what I need to do to have a username on the titan network forums associated with my wiki account?
-
Money is really tight for me right now, buying a house and getting married in the same month right after graduating college, hah (I know, we're crazy). I kicked in five bucks, though. The Paragon Team deserves our gratitude.
-
That is just too cool. I wish I had gotten to take that class before I graduated!

Quote:The Guild is hysterical, and absolutely worth watching. Each season is only about half an hour long, 5 in total. MMO players are the target audience, so it should be pretty relatable. She's one of the main characters in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Which is simply awesome.
(The Guild, though, is what made her famous, AFAIK... which I've never seen) -
Voted. I don't know if I think crossposting would hurt or help us more, I'm not involved in the CO or DCUO communities.
-
I played Champions back when it very first came out. Instability and horrrrrrrrrrrible balance issues drove me away from the game, but I've heard that that's changed over the years, so maybe I'll give it a try again, whether or not CoH survives.
Thank you for the support, folks. -
I didn't get any good shots of the protest (I was a little late), but here's my Dev Tribute costume.
Meet Nerphil Zebuffski
He wields the mighty Nerfbat, and has a flame-proof Impervium Paragon Shield, with a window to read player feedback through. -
Yes, but only* if it were moddable. Without other people to play with, I would need to be able to have other ways to keep the game fresh for myself.
*unless this product were offered by a reformed Paragon Studios to increase revenue to continue supporting the MMORPG. Then I'd buy it just to support the company. -
If we save the game, can we see that TF project rebooted?
-
I just posted links from each article to the other in the comments on both. Hopefully that should help raise visibility.
-
I made several characters to get a head-start on levels for Awesome Stuff in I24. I just have to hold up hope that the community efforts can save the day so they'll get to see it eventually.

Quote:I love that song and would thoroughly endorse someone using it in a tribute video. Alas, I have no talent for that, myself.I somehow got really involved in the Save Paragon City! movement. One song that keeps going through my mind? "How Far We've Come" by Matchbox 20:
Waking up at the start of the end of the world,
But it's feeling just like every other morning before,
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone,
The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour
And I started staring at the passengers who're waving goodbye
Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?
I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come...
I think that's where a lot of people fighting to save the game are: the world may be burning to the ground, but it's just one more chance to see how far we, the community, have come. -
Do you have a preference between Heroes or Villains, and/or a preference between "Character is obviously, visibly a superhero" versus "Character is a character that works as a superhero because of the setting"?
-
If I at all can, I will be there. I'm already working on a costume idea.
-
I'm sending chaud and Boubouille at MMO-Champion a PM asking if they will consider covering our story as well. They primarily do news regarding World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games, but they occasionally make exceptions, and have done pieces on SWTOR and GW2 recently.
Edit: I've also sent Tim Buckley at Ctrl-Alt-Del an email, as he has not responded on twitter (unsurprisingly, as he has a ton of followers). -
If you haven't already, you should PM TonyV and repost this on the Titan Network forums. Someone who's familiar with the media would probably be a huge asset to these efforts.

I did add a comment to the gamerzines article. -
Quote:The downside to this kind of approach is that it takes a long time to make games as intricately detailed as City of Heroes, even with experienced designers, programmers, and artists. I mean, sure, even fully reverse-engineering a game like this can be done, but, it takes years to do. I mentioned the SWGEmu project earlier in the thread - that's exactly what they're doing. It's taken them, if memory serves, eight years to get to a relatively stable alpha release. We want to avoid that kind of scenario if at all possible. How much of CoH is covered under the IP patent?
Is there anyway we can start from scratch, and make a new game called City of Titans or something? Using some of the tech and knowledge that the devs and other people have ammassed over the years of fiddling with the code? -

I just tweeted (ugh, I can't believe I'm saying that) Tim Buckley, the author of the Ctrl-Alt-Del webcomic, to see if he'd be willing to do any coverage on the game. He used to play City of Heroes and did a couple comics about it when he did.
