Oh I see...well that makes perfect sense MOAR revenue.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Anyway, Sorcery is a Dev-only powerset for instakilling/banning/minecraft-editing the playworld, while creating a viable, workable and iron-clad explanation for the playerbase.

(i.e.: wizards did it.)

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

If the devs really wanted to prevent WIP powers from being linkable, they could. They've done it in the past. You can't link [The I Win Button] anymore, even though the power still exists with that name. It probably wouldn't even be too hard to make the link generator check the same source that the powerset list uses (and that the pool list apparently needs to be fixed to use) to decide if a set is "released" and show it to us or not.
You're adorable.

Guesswork is a lot more convoluted and a lot less efficient than "other" methods.

Sidenote, on [The I Win Button] not being linkable anymore, I didn't know that.

I don't see why there would be any difference. I think it's a problem in how the pool powers in general work and not with specific sets.

Yes, bravo. You've discovered the great and horrible secret. They're ignoring massive player demand intentionally to make vanity pets and that's why they don't have it out yet...

. . . sorry, had to say it.

Yeah, this is the problem. They have graphics and 3D programmers working on UI. And they do so only when they have the time and is absolutely necessary to get a job done. They don't have UI specialists.

We also see that in how the Market interface has been sourced out to a third party... and doing a horrible job of it.

The good news is that they're advertising help wanted ads for two new UI specialists. The bad news is that those ads have been sitting there for months.

Now, if they only had the resources to also hire their own Web Designer and Copy Editor....

On the plus side [Kill Monsters] is linkable both live and on test and beta.

someone just told me the origin themed pools were dismissed by the devs. is this true?!?!

D:

say it ain't so!

the reason cited was "it would largely take creativity out of the players hands" which, to me doesnt make sense, especially as a power pool. having extra powers available from a pool for each origin available to all origins only alows for furthur customiztion to me.

D:

what's going oonnnnn?! dont tell me it;s over before it's even begun! take my money for the origin themed power pools! take it! now! for that! please!

I think you're misinterpreting whatever it was you heard - they aren't removing Sorcery or anythign else - it's just not intended to be unlockable by only one origin.

Well of course it is. I highly doubt that the all the powers people were linking on day one of the beta were discovered by guessing. I'm just trying to point out that digging in things they're not supposed to isn't the only way powers like that can be found. If somebody links one power I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but the one person on beta who went down a list... Yeah, we all know where that came from.

Titan Weapons was publicly "discovered" because of reuse of the power name Shatter Armor. Either that or the person who posted it is very devious.

Now the AT dropdown in the power info box, that one is a dev goof.

Yeah, I don't remember exactly when they did that, but it for sure doesn't work on live . The power does still exist though.

It's true... but probably not for those reasons. I've been biting my tongue every time poor Tunnel Rat and co. get harassed about it, because their part has been done for a long time. Including epics. Powers team still has a little bit to do to connect everything, and of course the biggest part falls on the shoulders of the nonexistent UI programmer.

I've been seriously considering submitting a resume for that open position on the website, but it's listed specifically as being UI design for the new project, so I don't know if whoever is hired will be assigned any time to work on CoH's UI

I'm sure there's a HELL of a lot more than just UI work to it. I don't even see how it could be mainly UI work. Seems to me the UI to customize power colors and such is already in place...

It's obviously going to involve absorb. Seeing as how all heal items get +absorb attached to them now it makes no sense to have only Defender have the capability.

There really isn't anything but the UI to consider. Everything else is done.

The UI is NOT in place. That's the issue.

Allow me to explain. The way the game UI treats power customization is that it will show every power you have access to. Not just what you pick... but EVERYTHING you can access. Now what happens if the game UI showed EVERY power pool and epic power pool and patron power pool you have access to. You have a big hot mess. The UI is not capable of handling all that right now. The UI needs to be redesigned with those pools in mind... and ideally, will not show those pools until you're of a level to access them (pools at 4, epics/patrons at 35).

The UI is the fundamentally issue holding it up nothing else. Power pool powers are no different than current customizable powers. There is nothing really "new" to add for customizing them.

So, is there an actual dev statement telling us all this or are you just pulling stuff out of your rear? I'm just saying, I haven't seen dev comment on this myself and this sounds like all assumption. I really don't see how it'd be such a "hot mess" even if your explanation of how the UI handles power customization is right.

The following is based on facts that I made up in my own mind.

I wonder if the Sorcery Power Pool will be a work-around for customizing the high-demand-for-customization powers from all the power pools. In other words, it was build with alternate animations for each of the powers in it.

So - a Hasten clone (cast as a spell or, "no effects" option) and an Aid other/Aid Self clone (cast as a spell or a "healing stone" option) and etc.

Knowing nothing about how computer programming really works, other than the electron-based life forms known as 'puter gnomes, this could be a way around a rehaul of every power pool by introducing one that has the powers people want to customize in it.

American Dawg, Starblaze, Neanderthal Joe, Shining Dawn, Tokamak Dragon, Stinger Incarnate, Burning Tyger, Dover Tornado, Big Roach, Dark Paladin, Archmage Wylde, Kings Row Hornet, Prancing Deer
Avogadro, Science Lord
Edgar Nightcraft, Doc Cicada, Chupa Macabre, Dr Forchtenstein, Blood Shrew

So they provide a way to pool customize and they give people origin based powers that have been requested as well. Hmm...two birds with one stone approach...Hmm that "could" be it only time will tell.

They are unlikely to do that just to implement a scattering of power customization for pool powers. Its a safe bet to assume Sorcery is a brand new power pool powerset.
