Is it justified?

The only thing I wish they'd do differently is release the powersets faster. All those other things...I can wait.

Those powersets...if it's ready I say let us purchase and play it!

I want to be able to support the development of this game, so paying for those "extras" is a good tradeoff-- especially because I can pick and choose the things that appeal to me, and hopefully my contribution will go to something that will further keep my interest.

Translation: I don't want to be called out on whining about 'paying' for new powersets, so I'm going to post in this passive aggressive fashion and hope someone else whines for me.

Thread Response: Not what you were looking for, was it bunky?

I'm fine with it.

Powersets are optional. We get some free ones. We can save points.
The price point is resonable for the work required.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I think charging for some things is justified. As an earlier poster pointed out we've gotten more completely new powerset options, some free and some paid, in the last year than we did in the previous seven. That's the power of profit reinvested. As long as there are at least as many 'free' sets as there are 'paid' I won't feel ripped off. The idea behind the paid for stuff was to finance more development. To my mind 1 paid = 1 free for that reason.

Costume parts... now that's getting a little out of hand because there's far more paid than free, and quality is an becoming an issue. But that's another thread.

Note: I bought Titan Weapons, Beam Rifle, and Street Justice. I have no interest at all in Beast Summoning. I also use Time Manipulation and no interest in Darkness Control.

More options is good.

Considering that I've been getting new powersets with every CONTENT patch as part of my subscription just like I've always gotten I am not at all unhappy with how things have worked out since Freedom. Getting all these "buy me nao!" powersets in between the content issues is awesome!

I think it sucks and they should be hanged!!

Okay, not really, but this thread has been boring!

I think all the positive statements made have been fact. They;re adding way more under this new system. Hopefully it is actually paying off for them and they'll be able to continue that.

I am not entirely pleased with what they've done and how they've gone about it, but I'm absolutely not against the practice at all.

I will state that I find the $10 per powerset to be too high of a price.
That's just my opinion, so there it is.

With the VIP points per month, it has not been a negative issue for me. So, yabba dabba doo!

Given the rate at which they have been able to release new things, thanks to the increase in revenue, I say it is justified.

Granted, I am a minimalist. I have purchased the Beam Rifle power set, the Halloween costume set, and the Rocket Board because I wanted to support further development of alternate travel powers (though, I had hoped they would be looking into things like ice slides and other travel power customization). That's it though!

I currently have quite a bit of stipend saved up simply because I refuse to buy something that I do not want nor will use. If I get an itch to try something new, as Darth_Khasei pointed out, I have access to the Beta server, I can go try it out there to see if I actually want to buy it. (A feature for which I am VERY grateful.)

So far, I am happy with how they are conducting themselves. Some things have been a bit ridiculous (like a certain pet a last week), but on the most part, I feel they've done a good job of releasing appealing but optional items.

If they couldn't charge for the sets, I doubt I would ever have gotten to play Street Justice ("Use the alt animations for MA we already have, duh") or Titan Weapons ("Use one of the other three heavy melee weapon sets we already have, duh"). And I love those sets. So I feel that yes, the practice is absolutely justified, and I am very glad they're doing it.

I'm torn.

Yes, i 'bought' some new powersets due to my free 400PP a month, i don't have BM nor TW, and i felt like MC Hammer hopping after a trend when it was 5 years out of style by buying StJ two months after it came out.

However, i still have not paid a dime more than the 15 a month.

Granted, till the Dark powersets came out, i was skeptic, since all but one powerset was really free. But Darkness being free for VIPs while being 800PP for non VIPs made me hopeful.
Hopeful that for all the powersets we have to buy, that there will be a few who are free for us VIPs, and maybe one or two which will be free for all.

I'm still not choosing sides however.
As a VIP player i wonder why there is so little coming out that is free for VIPs, or even at a discount for VIPs.. we are paying our subs, and some of us have been here for years. Maybe a thought to grant a small discount per Year Vet badge, not for tokens, they can be bought, but the Yearly Veteran badges have to be earned. Would be a nice gesture to the long time players. 2.5/ 5% per yearly badge sounds about right?

However, as a company standpoint, fully justified.
They need to make a profit, pay their staff, and pay for the server upkeep.
If they were losing money while all this stuff has to be paid while still having to release content, the plug will be pulled faster than you can say 'Hi'.

So like i said.. i'm in the middle.. i haven't paid extra, i have gotten a few without points, there is a steady cash flow to development, and they are releasing new content pretty fast.. so yeah.. can't really complain.

Yes it is and I'm perfectly happy to buy sets. So long as the occasional one is free I don't mind the increased pace of releasing sets if they are charging for it.

Since they went to FREEDOM!!!! not that the pace of releasing power sets has gone way up. It used to be lucky if you saw a new set with an issue. And so if they charge for that increased pace of releasing the sets I'm all for it.

Borrowing this part of DE's post since it sort of sums up most of my feelings on this.

I don't mind using points to pick up new powersets. I enjoy the fact that I can pick and choose the ones I want. Since I don't have to have powersets I'm likely never to use (in fact I would sell back most of the melee sets if I could) It makes the game feel more like 'City of Heroes: The JWB Special Edition'.

Also, since I am a VIP, the points per month more than cover my choices, so, as the quote above says, I'm not paying any more to get a game that's more ... ME.

I can live with that.

I have no problem with it - I did not buy any of the new powersets except Beam Rifle which I did not like. I am just waiting for staff fighting so I can finally create the scrapper I have wanted to make since I started playing 7 years ago

Not only is it justified, it's the only reason we're getting so much. Once I realized that simple concept I was more than fine with it.

Perfectly fine with the concept if it means we're constantly getting new stuff. I can choose to get what I like and ignore the stuff I don't, and if I choose to indulge my "gotta have it now" impulses I have that option or I can wait and get it for free with my stipend.

I've not been terribly bothered by it so far. They seem to come out with more regularity, which is a plus, I'd say.

I hate it.

Not that they are charging for powersets, that's fine. They can do what they want. But I loathe the hybrid subscription/microtransaction payment model. If there was a 30 bucks/month subscription you could get and never have to know there was a Paragon Market, I'd jump at the opportunity.

So, you like having to pay for everything, whether you're going to use it or not?

Hmm, I can't say I agree with this sentiment. You get 400pps per month and 550pp once you clear tier 8. That extra 150 is 37.5% bonus reward to Vets. Effectively a discount.

This is how i see our points. A generous reward/monthly discount on items that they release.

We're getting more items, powersets and costumes than we've ever had before so im all for this.

I'm fine with it. All they need to do now is make a powerset that I actually want - I have no interest in Beam Rifles, Street Justice, Titan Weapons, Staff Fighting and Beast Mastery.

As long as we're getting power sets 'for free' at the same speed, or faster, as before Freedom ( as is currently the case), I'm all for extra optional purchasable power sets on the market. The more the merrier.

I know I do. There is a certain psychological satisfaction in knowing you're entitled to EVERYTHING that few give enough credit. It's not a question of how much of what I need I'm getting vs. how much stuff I don't need is "bloating" the cost so much as it's a matter of getting literally everything there is to get. Whether I like it or not, I can still make use of it. Maybe don't like Beam Rifle because I don't play any of the ATs that have access to the set. Well, what if I decide to play one some day? If I owned "everything," I might be inclined to do so just for a change of pace. When I have to pay $5 to do it, however, I'll need a very good reason to try that in the first place.

For as much as I'm OK with micro-transactions, I'd still prefer an option that gave me "everything." Sadly, with the concept of consumables, this will never exist.

I fail to see why 'we' would be entitled to anything like this. "So little free for VIPs"? We've gotten 'free' stuff by the tons since Freedom. There was no slow down in content release for subscribers compared to before Freedom. If anything there's more now then in the past couple of years. All the extra pay for stuff has been on top of that. And we're already getting a discount in the form of the monthly points.
