Looking at the screenshot of that Leprachaun makes me smile and laugh.

But an influence boost? That's so not worth spending money on. PL some n00bs in AE; apparently now people are paying 500 million a run for that, or something. That more gold than a leprechaun has hidden under the rainbow. The Leprechaun should boost all drops--influence/prestige, salvage, recipes and tickets--if they want 10 bucks for it. Consider him a permanent, slightly weaker, version of the Windfall temp. I bet you'd see a sea of green little men in Incarnate trials if they worked like that all praetoria's drops belong to Leprechaun dimension

As was pointed out to me on the beta forums, he'd be greyed out on the iTrials.

I fail to grasp the logic that attempts to balance in-game rewards by making them prohibitive to purchase with out-of-game money, but that seems to be what's going on here. It's bizarre.

1st of all I am a concept freak. I can think of exactly one character (Paddy O'Foole, my 32nd Will/Mace (Shillaleagh)) character that I run exactly one day a year for about a half hour, that it would even work on. So, 800PP for 1/2 hour a year? Kinda spendy. Seriously, exactly what sort of superhero or villain has a leprechaun following him around? Super Irish Man?

Ah, at 1/10th the price it might be a bargain.

I'm not suggesting it be changed, either*. It was just idle speculation on my part.

The change to Inner Inspiration didn't occur to me; I got it for VIP-free, so I forgot that some people paid for it.

*Although if they wanted to price it at 90% off next Tuesday I'd be okay with that.

DOn't want it, don't buy it. It's that simple. Quitting over it is absurd, IMO.

WINNING!
Not exactly. What you're omitting is the fact that there was a bona fide you-know-what storm when that email was leaked to the public and within a month, revenue for that game plummeted by 20%. Paragon Studios, if it continues its current trend, could very likely see a player backlash of the same sort.

I am not one of those players described by that company head, by the way, and I suspect that a good proportion of the player base doesn't "say one thing and do another" either, otherwise there would be no need for the super packs and an R.N.G. gambling system (in other words, a money sink).

I've been hanging around to see where this game has been going, but the pricing schemes and lack of substantial content is making it really hard to stay invested in City Of Heroes. This is a great game, but I fear it's been leaving an overall bad taste in my mouth these past months. Dark Astoria's great, but gating that behind a V.I.P. subscription was a very dubious move indeed.

Insofar, we've been seeing price hikes on certain items, notably vanity pets, and now we're seeing a buff pet being sold on the market at an exorbitant price. Again, I do not like where this trend has been going these past few months. Do any of you even remember what $10 used to get us before Freedom? We used to get a hell of a whole lot more stuff for that money, not just a travel power or a vanity pet. Marketing really is squeezing every last dime out of the dwindling player base to cash in before these servers go dark. This is an 8 year old game well past its heyday, how much longer do any of you think content can be churned out at its current rate before the game goes into maintenance mode?

People have been saying this game will die since it first started. I don't see it shutting down anytime soon, regardless of what any player might think or say. Especially considering both CO and DCU were failures, CoH is really the only good and successful superhero MMO out there.

As to gating certain content behind a VIP lock, non-VIPs still get two new story arcs in the 20-30 range for heroes and villains, so it's not like they're completely left out. It's just DA is incarnate content, and incarnates are reserved for VIPs. They're running a business, not everything can be given away. Especially now that you can play nearly the entire game's worth of content without having to pay a dime.

But I do agree that marketing really needs to figure out that it's charging way too much for little things. I just don't think that will kill this game as much as anything else people claimed will kill this game has.

Actually the S strom was proof of what I was saying since they sold quite a few of those OP monocles right off the bat. Don't get mad at the messenger here. Marketing guys have decades of human behavior to base things off of and that is why they WIN!

People in a large majority cannot help themselves. You may be able too predict doom in light of this while I predict increased profits for Paragon.

Xzero, I'm not saying they're going to go out of business anytime soon, but long term, it will be interesting to see where this game is by its ten year mark. I have my doubts about this game's viability past that point. I think they know this and marketing's trying to get what they can now before that time. The dev.'s keep alluding to having a business plan of up to two years (up to and around it's 9 year mark). I bet downsizing will be in order after those purported plans are up. A ten year old M.M.O. can still make some money (such as E.Q.), but NC Soft is notorious for axing games that don't turn as much of a profit as they like. We'll just have to wait and see.

And Darth, I find it sad that people seem to embrace the capitalistic idea of a consumer. I may be a typical consumer in Paragon's eyes, but as with anything I buy, I try to see the real value for what I'm buying. I find it disturbing that some posters in this forum are willing to pay as much they do on virtual items with no real world worth.

I don't see you as the typical since you seem to express rational thought and reason vs impulse that most operate off of. Those folks are the target audience and they out number you and me BIGTIME.

Unless you can buff him up. My plant/cold controller has the unkillable (almost) combat buff pet. Slap on some ice shields and use Frostworks to give it an extra 550 or so hit points. Bam!

i decided to get it, personally i rather pay more for a pet that actually does something than waste 800 PP on all of the other vanity pets on the market atm

and yes, the leprechaun is untargetable and unkillable, he does detoggle when you zone though (he also flies), the only problem i have with him is that i keep forgetting to toggle him on lol

While i agree with that, those were not your only two options.

C'mon guys, clearly the leprechaun is a preview of the upcomming size-changing powerset. You have to buy it to support development of this set!

But probably not.

I think it brings up a good point. If we continue to see some of these powers change after a few months, it may cause some players to hesitate and not buy an item. This is only in regards to changes where we might be left scratching our head at why such a minor power needs to be modified. At that point, we have to research why a change was made in hopes we understand why it was done, accept it and move on. That is, if we can even find that info. Otherwise, you are just PO'd because that was not what you initially paid for and may have not bought it. I never read an official dev post on the changes to Inner Inspiration and the buff pets so it was all second hand player info.
