leprechaun, y u so expensive?
The Leprechaun pet may be overpriced, but it's not targetable or killable like the Vet reward buff pets are.
So it's not going to die right away.
That makes some sense for a normal item, like the doggie pet. But unless they're planning to put it on clearance next Tuesday with all the other shamrock fluff in retail stores I don't see it happening. It's only available for two weeks.

But eh, just throwing out guesses heh...not really sure what their thinking process is.
It's not unheard of to bring back an item if it might sell at a later date. Disney vault tactic springs to mind. And it's not like they need to retool for manufacturing virtual items.
But eh, just throwing out guesses heh...not really sure what their thinking process is. |
But yeah, I can't read their minds, either. :-)

800 points? o_O
They... really seem to think a lot of the little guy, don't they?
While it's good that he's untargetable, I still don't see how he's worth anything close to $10. I'm really curious how they came up with that number.
And, no. As fond as I am of pets, I'm not buying this fellow. I'll wait for the lion, thanks. (And hope they don't try to charge $10 for him, too. <_<)

Dear War Witch, you're in charge of Production now. Pricing of many Market items is seriously broken. There is an inconsistency which makes Paragon Studios look bad in my eyes. You and Brian seriously need to look into what the Market-team is doing and come up with a consistent pricing policy. I'm still waiting for at least one official feedback thread on pricing or how the Market is going -- what works for development of the game can work for the store. Maybe then you won't get surprised by war path threads over a particular price point like what's happening now. -ZM |
Agree wholeheartedly!
Seriously, there are some things that are WAY over-priced. This is only one of them. Devs, you guys do an awesome job. This is a game that I love and I will happily spend what little money I have on it, but really; when a vanity pet (regardless of how quickly it dies or whatever) is the same price as a power set, you're doing it wrong. |

The one main difference is the effect on the economy. If you make money on the market, you are essentially taking money out of the game economy (WW fees) and transferring a larger amount to yourself. It is moving money, not making money.
But the pet creates more money. From a personal standpoint, it produces less value, but from a game inflation standpoint it causes more damage. So, they price it high to prevent the problems it could exacerbate, but in doing so, they price it out of the range of the personal value it provides to the players. Basically, it's a stupid design choice given to even dumber marketers to try to flog. |
Just this thread alone proves that. Sure, maybe only a handful of VIPS or hardcore players may add to this thread, but $10.00 for a vanity pet versus a powerset or costume slot. Doesn't take working in wall street to know this doesn't add up.
NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.
You might have been right this time, but I wouldn't trust Paragon Studios to ever refrain from cheating you when it comes to pricing on the market. We're talking about a company that sells the High Collar Cape individually for 40 more points than the pack that includes it. They've shown from the start that they are more than willing to take you for every dime you have. Assuming any good faith in the pricing system is a bad idea.

Just wanted to say that the Leprechaun Pet is the latest recipient of the Official Guy Perfect Seal of Lolno
Please revisit your pricing structure. I am still awaiting the micro in microtransactions. From my perspective, I compare a lot to what I received in Going Rogue for $40. And these are also things I can get more of from a new MMO as well. Powersets, zones, new villains, new costumes, new missions, new game mechanics, etc. Then you charge $5 for a single story arc, $5 for costume sets, $10 for this crazy leprechaun, up to $20 to expand storage and I can't bring myself to buy much knowing the value I received previously. Granted I can login for free now and some small premium would be expected on purchasable items compared to before but I'm just not seeing this in the market. I don't mind the $10 for powersets. I can actually see the value in them but for everything else when I add up only four purchases and am at the cost of an expansion(from this game or another) yet only have maybe an eighth of the content, hopefully you can see why I am unlikely to part with any money.
That's my two cents why I want to buy items to support PS and my favorite MMO but just cannot bring myself to open my wallet for much of what I see available.
If the thing was an immortal pet and *only* affected the bonuses for completing story arcs, I would buy it since I am an arc bonus junkie. Even better if it said something like "End of the rainbow, laddie/lassie!" and did an emote like "throw confetti" with gold coins instead.
As it is, some arcs award the bonus when the last mission is completed and some when you phone it in after you exit the door. A "dead again" pet might not get activated in time to get the boost from the "on completion" bonuses.
Obviously these are meant for multiboxing gold farmers. The gold farmers are going to love these little guys. Park the bots at the door with their leprachauns while one toon clears the map.
WTH are they thinking?!?!
Edit/PS: Yes, I meant Gold Farmers, not just players who do their own inf farming. I meant the ones who farm inf and sell it for real money. You know, the ones that are against EULA. They're going to get more use out of these things than any other segment of the playerbase. I can't help but think this pet is a really poor idea. XP boosters are temporary. This thing is a one-time purchase with no expiration or limitation.

On beta it was non-targetable :/ unless they changed that too

Hmmm, what if this pet was attackable? That is, what if your team or yourself could shoot it in the face just for kicks?
Although that'd come with the side effect of being able to use enemy toggles on it...a portable Darkest Night or Radiation Infection...
How do you think people will react if they change its effects after the fact? It's one thing to do that for a regular item, but a persistent power you paid cash for? There could be riots in the digital streets.

I'm not suggesting Leprauchaun be changed. I didn't say that. I'm saying it was a bad idea, period.
