What powerset do you have a special relation with?

I'm all over the board, but I would had to pick one....

Dark Melee
or
Dual Pistols

Willpower for most common armour.

Then again, I mostly play scrappers, tanks, and blasters.

This description fits my experience as well. I try to avoid repeating sets at all and never, ever repeat archetype/primary/secondary combos.

Perhaps it is out of some sense of obligation in my own head to represent the exciting abundance of variety and imagination that comics represented to as a child. I enjoy this challenge and embrace it fully.

When I blow the dust off one alt or another, I often discover a new love for sets and combos. Especially once I learn to play them well.

Fire and Ice sets. But lately I'm liking to my Beam Rifle blaster.

Super Strength. When I come up with a character concept for a superhero (and I don't just mean for this game, I mean in general), 90% of the time they have superhuman strength.

Obviously, 90% of my characters in this game aren't Super Strength, or I wouldn't have been able to experience the variety that this game has to offer, but my two favorite characters are both Super Strength, and I have a third SS character approaching level 50. All three of these characters are remakes of level 50s I already had (I swapped the ATs on two of them when Going Rogue came out to have a Hero Brute and a Villain Tanker, and remade the third on a different account). I have another one planned, and I probably deleted 8 or so SS characters back when we were limited to 12 slots, one of which was level 50, and the other was level 43.

I'm really hoping to get Super Strength Scrappers and Stalkers at some point. I've wanted Super Strength Scrappers since release.

I did myself a disservice: My first 4 50s were blasters, blasters with which I took the time to make really good builds, with a fair amount of IO set enhancement (no purples though). Basically, this means that I can never play those power sets on any other archetype, nor roll another blaster with that same power set.

Take my Ice/Ice/Cold blaster as an example. The guy can hold a boss indefinitely. He can take out an entire mob without taking any damage via Flash Freeze and Freeze Ray. One application of Shiver puts an entire room at or darn near the slow cap. His single target damage is insane. And on the rare occasion that I get overwhelmed, Hibernate allows me a fresh start in the middle of a battle.

Now I ask you: how am I supposed to play a level 1 Ice Blaster, or worse, an Ice/ Corruptor or /Ice Defender (with their lower base damage output) after playing that juggernaut?

So, my favorite power set is definitely Ice Blast (one of my favorite comic characters is Iceman), but I fear I will never have more than my one character with Ice Blast (or Electric Blast, Energy Blast, and Archery for that matter...)

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

Dark Miasma and Regen.

I have five Dark Miasma characters: two Defenders and three Corruptors. The Defenders and two of the Corruptors are level 50s (the other Corruptor is level 30). The two Defenders top my list of highest "hours on patrol" times of any characters I have.

For a long time, I had a hard time creating and/or leveling a Defender or Corruptor that wasn't a Dark Miasmist. I just enjoy playing it that much. I finally gave in though, not because I didn't want more DMs, but because I wanted to try other things again.

I have four Regen characters: two Scrappers and two Stalkers. The Scrappers and one Stalker are level 50 (the other is level 32), and the one of the Scrappers has my 3rd highest "hours on patrol" after the two Defenders.

Unlike with Dark Miasma, I don't find my mouse gravitating towards Regen whenever I play a melee. I do really enjoy playing the set, however. I find the more direct control over my own survival more enjoyable than "toggle and forget" powersets. (Probably my second-most-enjoyed melee survival powerset is Firey Aura, for similar reasons. I would also probably enjoy the Stalker version of Willpower.)

Revising the question a bit and trying to think of my current characters, I listed out all of the powersets available and the number of characters I currently have with them at level 50. Ostensibly this was because if I got something to 50 then that must mean I liked playing it, but in reality a few were just so I could have a 50 of each AT (see: SD/SS Tanker, PB) and two were PL'd for a PvP league (see: Mind/Emp, Spines/WP).

Since this was all off the top of my head, I might have forgotten a couple. The big winner is Kinetics, with a Plant/Kin Controller, Fire/, Ice/, and Rad/ Corruptors, and a /Dark Defender... but I play my Sonic/Cold Corruptor more often than any one of those.

I try not to repeat powersets. It's not an *absolute* rule, but mostly so, so I don't have certain powersets that I use over and over again. But there are definitely some that hit just the right spot.

I think for me the nearest powersets to that would be dark miasma, storm summoning, and stone melee. Among my active characters I don't have any powerset repeats. However, these are the only sets which I made on no longer active characters and liked so much that I kept experimenting until I found the right AT/other powerset for them, and they're the only sets that I'd seriously consider repeating.

Dark is just awesome. It does everything I want - it debuffs things to smithereens, it has awesome mezzes, a great pet, and a solid rez and heal as well, with no clicky buffing stuff. (Which is why I'm very much not a fan of the proposed 'dark affinity' version for controllers - not only does it kill two of the powers I enjoy, it replaces them with two buffs that run counter to the original debuff-only set character. If I wanted to worry about buffs, I'd play my FF defender - and at least his are long-duration and quick to recharge and apply.)

Storm, like dark, is just inherently awesome. Almost as good at debilitating the mobs in terms of debuffs/mez and adds plenty of damage and delightful chaos on top of that, in addition to being one of the most viscerally satisfying powersets out there in terms of visuals, audio, and overall feel. Even less team buff ability than dark, but who cares?

Stone melee is simply smash incarnate. Absolutely nothing surpasses it in sheer visceral impact. With every single crackling boom and screen-shaking impact, it really feels like you're laying the smack down with the force of an entire planet. Nothing fulfills that inner desire to just break stuff like walking up to a boss and unloading on him with the mallets and seismic smash, and nothing feels more powerful than knocking enemies sprawling a dozen at a time with every monstrous blow. It just adds the icing on the cake that the set also has some truly godly powers (in mechanical terms) in the form of seismic smash and fault. I fully intend to repeat this powerset when scrappers get access to it, which would be a first.

I'm not really altoholic. I have a few characters, but none that are much higher than level 10, and different power sets for the most part. Anyway, my main is a MA/SR Scrapper and I love playing that toon. Combat just flows really well, and like someone earlier said about Willpower, SR for defense allows me to worry more about fighting and less about surviving. There's also a lot of lols to be had from Crane Kicking someone halfway across the map.

I picked up my Elec/Elec stalker recently after a long time off....paired with Scirroco....erm....sets (Villian higher level powers)....and the theme matches up so well (I like matching themes....my OCD I guess.)

I also love the whole set. Elec offensive and elec armor.....it's so amazing and I THINK my villian just became my favorite character....(I hate villians....this is why he's now a rogue =D )

Arrows blaster was my favorite (and my main character.) I paired him with devices...and took the device epp (not sure what it's called, but it has the long range rocket attack.) He's like a Batman with arrows (NO, he's NOT a Green Arrow....hate GA.) heh.

Ice control has always been fun for me as it was my first set. Re-rolled my original ice/storm as an ice/cold....different strategy....and I'm finding I REALLY miss Gale and hurricane (yeah, I know, ironic....I always felt they didn't match my power theme well and I wanted a pure "ice" secondary....now I miss 'em.) *sighs* My ice/cold just hit 26....I think the higher level cold domination powers will not make me miss /storm so much

Kinetics - back in pre-release it fit the character concept I had perfectly, back then mind you I had little understanding of what defenders did on teams and was more geared towards solo play...hence not taking speed boost until lev 20 on my first build (you mean it doesn't affect me? Bah!) but a few respecs later and I was a teaming God . I remember fondly trying to explain to teams just what the heck the set even did.

Since then I actually have had more fun with different sets but I always get a warm feeling when I look back on Kinetics.

Dark Miasma. So much control. So much debuffing. At high levels, I can ruin both entire spawns and AVs. Brings so much to a team and rocks solo.

Sonic Attack. Great on all ATs and has so much capability.

Kinetics. Makes a team amazing. I love pushing a good team to superhuman levels of damage, speed and recovery.

SUPER REFLEXES.

There's a reason why after the Global Defense Nerf combined with Enhancement Dysfunction (thanks Jack!) that I left the game for 2 years to go play WoW and never looked back ... until Issue 9 and Inventions made it possible for me to remake NO GET HITSU!!

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

my favorite powerset by far is dark melee

an early aoe cone
a self heal with an attack
a control (fear)

it just gives you so many more options than most melee sets which are just damge

but, I only have one dark melee - when he gets too high I just delete him and start over

For me, it would be Dark Armor.

Back when I was a CoH newbie, it was mere weeks after launch and so was everyone else. But one thing that people knew was that Dark Armor sucked. At launch, Dark Armor could only have one of its resistance toggles active at any given time, Cloak of Fear (and fear powers in general) caused foes to flee rather than stand there cowering, and it was even more of an end hog than it is now.

But as I've grown as a player, so has the set. It was reworked to have the armors usable at the same time, fear was changed to its current version, it got through the Global Defense Reduction more or less intact while users of the other defense sets were fuming at being nerfed so heavily, and has risen from the absolute suckiness of its early days into one that can hold its own with the best of them. And I was with it for the whole ride.

While I definetly enjoy some powersets more than others (e.g. Super Strength, Dual Pistols, etc.), and others sometimes drive me a bit batty (e.g. Energy Melee post-nerf, Peacebringers), the ability to swap and always play sometime different is what keeps me in this game.

Variety is the spice of life.

I tend to spread around as much as possible in terms of powersets, but looking over what I've made, and what I've got at 50, Traps pulls noticably ahead. I'm sure there is a reason for this, but I have no idea what it is.
