Discussion: The Special Black Friday Sale has been extended!

Eh. It's a nice selection, but there are only two things I'm spending my points on: Titan Weapons and Extra Enhancement Trays. I can't buy TW until December 6, and I refuse to buy EETs until they're at least 50% off. $20 is absurdly high. (IMO)

For that reason and that reason alone I will buy one of each sale item that is 50 points or less to support impulse-level prices.

Yeah, a bit contradictory to deliberately make a statement for impulsiveness. But hopefully it will encourage permanently low prices so I can indulge in true impulsiveness later.

Wow, so this means I will have to start designing builds before the mid 30s now. I know I need at least 6 KCs for my 20-ish characters.

Time to see if I can get permadom at 27 instead of waiting til almost 50.

Hopefully enough sell to keep them on the market and at this price.

how long are these IOs going to be on sale?

Posted

Well, the VIP Starterkit is great!
Great for new people, great for people who want a second(third/fourth/fifth etc.) account.

The rest.. meh.

XP Boosters?
I still have them, unused, so i'm not going to waste my PP's on that.

Windfall power?
See XP Booster.

I/O Licence?
I'm VIP, don't need it.

Server token?
The free ones i get are collecting dust as is.

Respec token?
I'll run a respec Trail if i need one. Plus i still have several free respecs saved on all toons.

Large Inspirations?
A member in my SG restocks both Insp bins with large, so no need for that eirther.

I/O sets?
I get them with Astral Merits, plus i have tons of what i need saved in my base. I'll NEVER spend PP's on them. (Maybe the AT I/O set, and that's a BIG maybe)

Martial Arts pack?
Bought it days after it went up in the old store.

Overall thoughts about this?
Even though i'll get the VIP Starterkit for my 2nd account, the rest i can not use or will not waste my points on.
I do like the fact that there are items for sale for non VIPs, and i think that a few items will be flying over the digital counter like $1 ice-cream cones on a hot summer day.
I was hoping to see a sale on more useful items, like say the I/O Boosters, powersets, AT's and costume sets.
Maybe on Cyber Monday?

I'm glad you put those IO sets on the Market as well... even though I spent last weekend blowing hundreds of millions of influence on 5 Kinetic Combat sets for my brute.

I would suggest selling some of those IOs individually. I'd sooner pay 200pts for a LotG +Recharge IO before I'd spend 400pts on that and a bunch of other IOs I'm not ever going to use.
This. Most of us seem to be much more willing to overpay for the single proc with points than pay for the whole set where the other 5 pieces are usually reasonably priced on WW.

And These . I dropped $100 on paragon points when Freedom launched, and even I still haven't made myself waste the points on the enhancement trays yet. IMO nothing in the market should cost more than 1 month of VIP($15 equivalent in points) unless it's utterly gamebreaking (aka FUN ).

I really hope these prices stick, the insps are finally reasonable for insps. I was thinking LotG and Numina would be on sale individually when I heard on ustream, seeing them "locked" into set packages is disappointing. I wish the ehancement trays were being price-tested in this manner, I doubt they can be selling too well. I think the prices for Costume Slots is ok, but it would've been nice to see that sale again anyway. And of course the massive neglect to character slots. If new powersets are gonna be pushed out more frequently these need to go on sale. And then after they go on sale the max per server will need to be expanded, because i'll be full again .

I heard someone tried this recently and it was nerfed their toon arrived on the new server they had the name already taken on, with a 1 thrown onto the end and no free rename. So they had to move it back to the original server with the 2nd transfer AND buy a real rename token just to get the original back or select the new one. That's just stupid. If people are willing to burn transfers they don't want so they can use it as a rename instead then stop throwing the stupid transfers at us and give us real rename tokens.

I was originally going to complain about this being a limited availability item, but then I realized it's the WHOLE BOOSTER PACK, not just the costume options.

Still, I hope that we'll be seeing the Martial Arts costume bundle available in the Paragon Market both soon and permanently.

I did the same (aside: it was nice having a job... sigh), though I did buy one enhancement tray. I don't regret it, as I really needed the extra space to facilitate a respec on one of my characters without having to purchase additional respecs... but I'm absolutely waiting for the rest to go on sale before I purchase any other storage increases.

And by "on sale," I of course mean discounted by 50% or more.

I was really hoping that storage increases would be among the items discounted, but I'm pretty okay with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday showing that they've got.

And on store bought, how does the value work? If I exemplar down does the IO become a level 20 io vale followed by the exemplar penalty? Or will it be a a level 35 io with exemplar penalty? Or will it be a level 20 io no penalty?

did they bug this? That is not how it is supposed to work (and they did log into the character,
right? Iirc you must do that to trigger the free rename.)

And there is nit LotG proc

The individual IOs are likely to be available - when they sold the rare melee sets for a week, they advertised the set price, but you could buy the individual IOs if you wanted.

*(Unless selling them as an indivisible set is another of Z's famous experiments.)

Set bonuses do NOT work at any level. They only work at -3 of the level you've got the IOs slotted. If you are using level 50 IOs and exemplar below 47, then you lose those set bonuses.

The IOs you purchase in the market will always be the level of the character that's using them, as long as it's within the level range that that IO works for--you can slot a 20-40 IO any time after 20, but it will NOT go below 20 or above 40 for its enhancement value. If you are currently level 40, but then exemp down to 30, the store-bought IO should enhance as a level 30 IO.

Paragon Wiki has the info for what the enhancement values are at each specific level. For instance here's the entry on LotG's Def/End enhancement:

I'm skeptical that we'll see enhancement storage on sale any time soon. Since dropped enhancements are almost worthless, adding a tray is really just a way of getting more enhancements out of a build during a respec. Since they already sell enhancement unslotters, I'm not sure what incentive they have to make this easier.

Although I'm cheerleading for price drops on tons of this stuff, I paid full price for enh trays day one, and would have paid more. Not only is it super convenient when coupled with the other boosts for things like crafting loads of enhancements at once, but you get 3x the space when you respec. Being able to respec 30 enhancements out instead of 10 is... precioussss. (And of course, an 800 point respec token was already cheaper than 10 unslotters for 900.)

He was specifically referring to the market IOs. Those work down to -3 of the minimum level of the set. So if it's a 20-40 IO, you lose the set bonuses if you exemplar to level 16 or lower, even if you are level 50. Since IOs don't have their own native level, they bypass the rule that in-game IOs have for exemplaring 4 or more levels below the enhancement level.

Exemplaring doesn't quite work like that on enhancement values. There's a table that is referenced, and the enhancement value is multiplied by a value related to the difference between your level and the level you exemplared to (this value will be less than 1, so the value goes down). In many cases, this means that your IO will be worth less in enhancement value than an IO of the level that you are exemplared to.

Here's the Paragonwiki article on it for more details, though note that store bought IOs use a slightly different scale from in-game IOs based on testing. I'm not sure how accurate the article is, however, as "Any individual benefits of 20% or less are unaffected by Exemplaring down as far as level 21" doesn't sound correct to me, as it would mean that Schedule B enhancements aren't scaled down at all from 50 to 22. I haven't tested that in a while (like, probably 2 years), but I'm certain that was not true the last time I did (Edit: I just tested it and no, it's not universally true as written. Even level Defense SOs, which are exactly 20%, do scale down when a 50 exemplars to level 24. I had 3 Def SOs in a power, and it went from 56% enhancement after ED to 41.6%). It may be referring to dual/triple/quad aspect IOs, however, which do not scale within certain ranges for certain values. I don't remember the details on those, however.

Yeah, I'm not arguing they're one of the coolest things on the market, just that the price is nuts. I've been lazily playing around with a respec for main, which I dont do often, and I have the trays in my wishlist for the day I decide to do that. I've just been putting it off waiting for a sale.

So just for clarification, can an already existing FREE account use the VIP starter kit to upgrade to VIP for a month?

I strongly disagree that that's the only reason. I still run most of my characters on mostly SOs all the way to 50, and then take my time slotting them out through drops instead of hunting things down on the auction house.

And then, of course, there are the Free/Premium accounts who have zero access to IOs at all, and have no choice but to use TOs/DOs/SOs/HOs.

But you're obviously not wrong, either; I did already note that I specifically bought the one enhancement tray to assist with my latest respec, in which I dumped a lot of LotGs and other expensive IOs in order to frankenslot for better overall character performance.

If I recall, when they began to offer these back in September, they said any account that had never previously subscribed should be able to use it. If you'd ever paid for a subscription or had a retail code on that account, though, you would not be able to apply the VIP Starter Kit code.

I think you missed my sarcasm on the German Shepard.
