First look at Henry Cavill as Superman
Yeah, looks pretty good. I'm hoping that broken vault door is a hint that this Superman is more smashy and less blabby. I mean, he did start in "Action" comics not, "Lets talk this over tea" comics. :P
I like!! As a huge Superman fan, I am way pumped for this movie. From what I've seen and read so far, it is shaping up to be a vast improvement over previous big screen incarnations of The Man of Tomorrow. I am of the opinion that Chris Nolan has the Touch of Midas and can do no wrong.
Hmm. Will wait and see. Something looks a bit off to me. His head looks funny. I thought he looked ok in some of the pictures I saw of him months ago, but seeing him in the suit, he doesn't seem to fit quite right...
Also not a fan of the "S" shield being a seperate piece.
Also, upon closer inspection:
The cuffs on the sleeves look odd, but I don't mind them
Looks like there are no briefs. I can live with that, I suppose, but I prefer to have them.
The outside of his right leg looks like there some design there. Does he had red running down the legs? Doesn't look like it's the cape resting there. Looks like a part of the leg.
Est sularis oth Mithas
It looks a bit off to me as well. While watching True Blood the other night, I was watching the werewolf guy and thinking "Man, if that dude would shave he'd look like Superman!" I've since seen where others have suggested him as Supes, but I'm guessing he probably doesn't have the acting talent to be the star of a feature film. But damn, that dude looks like Superman!
@Joshua.
Count me as another person who thinks that the whole thing looks off. Agree with Arnabs on his head looking kind of funny, just doesn't cast that Superman image for me. Also that whole costume has that plastic vibe to it, but hopefully later image releases will be better.

He looks fine to me. I'm not crazy about the scaled suit, but it's not bad. It just doesn't look like something Ma Kent could ever make.
Nothing in that picture suggests a bad movie at any rate. There is definite action effort going on there. Although I can't tell how much of that is photoshop. That may just be his head grafted onto a CG image.
Notice how the suit has a 'shiney leathery' look to it?
I do like the Big "S" though.
And I agree, his hair has too much shine like grease to it and seems... bigger than normal?

At first glance it looks ok, but upon closer inspection I'm not a fan of the suits texture. The same goes for the S shield. I don't mind it being a separate piece, but there's no need for it to be so bumpy.
The lack of trunks bothers me, not because of the trunk-over-tights thing, but because there's no red/yellow to break the blue. A suitable compromise would be the yellow belt with a strip of red beneath it, perhaps accentuated with a downward peak in the centre, so as evoke the original without actual trunks.

The more I stare at that head, the more I feel like I'm watching a 80s music video. Maybe that's the reason why it feels so off for me.

I dont like the hair.
I don't like the textured costume. It looks like Spider-Man's movie outfit, but unlike Spider-Man, it doesn't work for me here.
Make a man a fire and keep him warm for the day, SET a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.
Incarnates: K'lir(Fire/Dark Corr):Hot-House Flower(Plant/Fire Dom):Kinrad X(Kin/Rad Def):Itsy-Bitsy Spider(Crab):Two Ton Tony(Mace/WP Broot):Teeny Weeny Widow(Fortunata/Widow) : Zeroth Law (Ice/Fire Tank)
Hmmm, not a fan of the costume with the scale effect. His hair doesn't bother me much, I'm just assuming it's a bit messed up after removing the vault door from it's hinges.
I'll bet the next time we see this Superman that both his hair and outfit will be different than this photo. Hopefully, different = better.
No spitcurl...
gotta have a spitcurl....
His head looks big for some reason...like disproportionally big- that makes the pic look off.
The suit....eh, I could take or leave the whole texturizing that has been going on with super hero costumes lately..
I like the big S...
Does he have shorts in this version? Really- Changing his suit other than the cosmetics of it would suck.
::Edited to add::
I am really digging the cape and how it comes from his shoulders, collarbone area and not sticking out of his neck like a weird ring around the collar.
Crazy casting going on in there too- hopefully they don't go overboard and sacrifice a decent plot.
"I'm not scared of anyone or anything Angie. Isn't that the way life should be?"
Jack Hawksmoor, The Authority.
Who is playing Lex?
I vote for Bryan Cranston who plays Walter White in AMCs Breaking Bad.

Not a fan of the scales or the hair. I've never really liked how in any live action Superman works they've felt the need to give Clark/Superman long hair just so they could change the style back and forth. Also, the costume colors look muted there, and I thought they learned their lesson about that.

Oh, and for the love of Zod let this be better than Green Lantern!

Er... no. Just... just no. I don't know why superhero movie art designers always feel the need to darken the colors and add weird textures. As long ago as the Flash TV series they've been doing that, and I can't think of a single occasion offhand on which it's worked. It sure didn't in Superman Returns.
That one example I can kind of understand - the series was greenlit because of the huge success of the first Tim Burton Batman film, and the suits, in their infinite savvy, thought the Flash would only latch onto that audience's coattails if he, too, was presented as a grim avenger who operated mainly at night. That's dumb, but at least it makes a sort of Hollywood sense. (Hmm. Are we seeing a Batman-success knock-on effect here too, because of Nolan's involvement?)
Superman, though... no. I have to admit I like the Spawn-y cape, but the rest of it leaves me not just cold but putting on a sweater. At least a sweater has a reason to have a 3D texture.
Is it just me, or does this look more like a very realistic artist's rendering, rather than an actual picture?
I've never yet taken a hit from a bad guy skidding across the floor on his keister.
