First look at Henry Cavill as Superman

Here are some snaps of the set where you can see his outfit is clearly brighter than depicted in the first reveal photo, though with Snyder's visual style it may still be modified to be darker.

Also, he's missing the yellow shield on the cape.

I'm fine with the suit. The 'scales' or whatever you want to call them are a bit too obvious, and I definitely don't like them on the shield, but it looks good enough to me. It looks a hell of a lot better than the disaster of a spiderman suit for the new spidey movie.

The key for this movie is if the new actor can pull off the role, and if the movie has a good story and some action.

In Superman Returns, I liked the design of the suit even less, but I forgot about that because the actor nailed the role. The only problem was, the story SUCKED and there was too little action, so the movie was a failure in my opinion. People will be fine with the suit design if theres a good story and good acting.

I saw some promo pics for the comic book redesign, where superman is flying around with some sort of midget cape. Now THAT looks bad.

Routh did not nail "the" role. He nailed what the directors wanted.
Routh doesn't look enough like Christopher Reeve nor is the way that it was played anywhere near what Reeve's superman evolved into nor the Superma of comics evolved into...

However I think Routh did a good job and is a good actor and would have done an awesome job if he was allowed to play "THE" role.

Routh didn't play Superman / Clark Kent in Superman Returns, He was playing Christoper Reeve playing Superman / Clark Kent in Superman Returns. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

According to the original Teenagers from Outer Space rulebook, that makes him a Master Roleplayer!

Loved that game

My last Champions campaign became something of a homage to that game when the lord of the Universe (Fire Lord) landed on Earth (in his Capital City Ship) and announced he was marrying one of the characters (Spitfire).

Good times

Yeah, the last Superman movie was a parade of wasted talent.

Well, Routh probably could have been good if there had been a decent story, decent writing or decent direction. Lois was mis-cast. Spacey could have been good, as he is a very good actor.

But the movie as a whole was a travesty. Got the character wrong (Peeping Tom and Deadbeat Dad). Badly regurgitated the plot from Superman 1, which was itself badly written.

While Christopher Reeve did a great job at portraying the character, there is yet to be anything close to a good Superman movie that didn't have plot holes big enough to drive a planet through. Please, please, please start with a good story that doesn't have to resort to deus ex machina stuff to reach a resolution. I keep hoping that the new one will be decent . . .

LOL, it sounds like every video game PvP video I've ever seen on the Internet.

As for the OP, I have mixed feelings, but I have faith in Cavill after seeing him in things like The Tudors and Stardust. As long as the script isn't complete crap, I think he can pull it off.

It's obvious with the actor and certain aspects of the suit they could have pulled off the iconic look perfectly, so why didn't they?

My guess. they want to put there stamp on it. Make it different for the sake of difference and new toy tie ins. At least it looks bettert than the stupid Kyrptonian ceremonial armor they are going to add in the comics.

Why's he need armor? He's Superman!

Yeeeeeeaaaaa... Not really crazy about the "lookit mah package" aspect to the top portion of that costume.

Other than that, I don't really mind the modernization of the look.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but that outfit has too much blue.

I can see getting rid of the trunks, but it needs some more red highlights. Make those funky sleeves red. Put side stripes on it.

I disagree, it will be fine once he's wearing the cape.

God I never thought I would hear myself saying this but looking at those two pictures side by side I have to say I much much prefer the Brandon Routh version.

I'm not against updating costumes but this feels like change for changes sake which is fine if the result is better than the original but I gotta say it's a step down in my opinion.

Looks like they're finally making that Nic Cage version of Superman after all.
