Otoh, Captain Marvel always wore pants, if tight, and kept his underwear where they belonged. maybe the history of graphic costume design woulda been different if DC hadn't sued the pants off Fawcett Comics back then.
Only thing is, they weren't underwear on the outside. It was ONE PIECE with different colors. It wasn't "Oh let me put on these blue tights, and then slip on this read pair of underwear." it was "Let me put on the tights with two colors"

He's not wearing the cape in these, but you get a better look at the suit up close. I really don't care for the plastic design. The lack of briefs makes him look like he's running around in his Kryptonian onesy to me.

I wonder if there's a hatch in the back, like in those union suits old prospectors are always wearing in old-timey cartoons.

They might not have been literal underpants, but they were certainly separate garments, especially back in the old days. Early pre-flying Superman has actual shorts on over his blue tights, as do a number of other Golden/early Silver Age characters. The Hourman, early Silver Age GL (cf. DC: The New Frontier), even some takes on old-timey Batman. They're modeled after boxing trunks.

Can't believe how much like Reeve he looks like in this pic

And like I said, make those 'rubbery' sections of the costume - the 'highlights' or whatever tehy are - and the bracers, make those red and it would be a better design. The wierd little gold/yellow belt-like part could stay that color, but the other parts need to be a different color than blue.

Man, that guy has some huge arms. I'd say He and Tom are the two largest built actors to potray Superman so far. As for the outfit itself. I can live with it.. I would like it if the armored sections were Red as Samothrake mentioned.

This suit is actually padded in places to make him look more muscular. Not sure by how much, though.

I chopped this out of the back of the newest Justice League. It looks like the movie is trying to go with a version of this. But, see how making the bracers red it breaks up the blue of the costume. Overall it makes for a much better look than just having the boots, belt and cape red.

Not just the bracers, the belt is red too, echoing the red shorts.

I really should do something about this signature.

I like how the cape attaches to the "S".

Didn't a future Superman look similar to this? The one from the 85th century, or something, featured in the Issue One Million event.

On a side note, anyone know who the new Lois Lane will be? Kate Bosworth didn't seem like a good choice in the last one.

Hm, from the new Muppets to the new Superman. I like her well enough. Not sure I see her as Lois Lane yet.
