-=hugs=- I hear you, I just turned 40 and I am in the same boat. I held my seven year old daughter for over an hour while she sobbed uncontrollably when I broke the news to her.

I managed to get in for the rally on Virtue, and take some screen shots, and I forced myself to run an ITF (which turned out to be good fun), but the game isn't the same with the cloud of impending doom hanging over it.

  5. Yes. I would prefer to be able to play with the friends I have over the years, but if push came to shove.... just being able to mow down huge spawns with Itsy makes the game worth playing.
  6. Itsy-Bitsy Spider hands down. I created him the moment the SoA character type became available and have loved every minute I have ever spent on him.

As long as nature is very busy, you should be good okay. I really like traps and storm for mm secondaries because they both play very aggressively. There is always something for you to do, either positioning, or setting up to do some damage. Wish I had more for you.
I have found that the combination of Necro/Nature keeps me quite busy. The littlest uglies are quite squishy so require me to actively heal/buff to keep them alive. So far all the pets tend to bunch together pretty well, which makes aiming the cone heal very easy.

Endurance is practically a non-issue if I stand in the middle of the "Life Giving Spores", and they provide some nice healing to everyone while I wait for my cone heal to recycle.

I am still learning how to best use "Wild Growth" and "Wild Bastion". "Growth" seems to be the type of thing I want to use all the time (or at least as much as it is available), and "Bastion" seems to be a pretty good "Panic Button" as well as a good buffer for an expected tough fight like an EB.

"Growth" seems like it should be pretty easy permeable, but "Bastion" looks like it will require significant investment to do so (if it is even possible).

The pets hit hard, but seem to take damage pretty easily too, so as I said that keeps me pretty active. I will definitely be taking this character into the mid 30s to see if I will enjoy her enough to bother with IOs and sets.
  13. Thanks to all for your input, I haven't had a lot of time to be on the boards, but I'll address what questions I have seen as they pertain to me.

I use MIDs all the time to tweak builds and experiment with what I think will work. I didn't post a build for this particular post because I'm still trying to decide if the AT is worth pursuing. Most of the time I 'wing it' with new characters until level 32 and SOs. Once I am level 33 (so I have some slots in my 32 power) I decide if the character is a 'keeper', and if so I will spend time in MIDs on a build and influence on IOs.

My biggest problem with Masterminds thus far has been the lack of anything to do other than point my pets at something and watch it die. I prefer a more hands on approach to my game play. As an example, my favorite character by far is "Itsy-Bitsy Spider", and he requires me to jump around, launch attacks, and occasionally use map geometry to break up larger groups (like when I accidentally pull 2 groups together running +4/x8 DA stuff).

The "Time" corrupter I mentioned in my original post is a level 50 Dual Pistols/Time with a single Alpha slot enh. The "Storm" Defender was a level 44 (43?) Storm/Nrg that thrived on chaos (good fun, but ultimately deleted to make room long ago before we could have more than 12 toons on a server).

I have managed to get my new Mastermind ("Dr. Death Blossom", Necro/Nature) to level 25 as of the writing of this post. I haven't bothered with a MIDs build yet because I'm not sure I'm going to play it past 32, who knows? I can tell you that I am enjoying the play of this character more than either of my previous attempts at MMs. Is it because this character uses a set I have no previous experience with, or is it because I am required to be active in keeping my pets alive? I can't say for sure, but it definitely feels more like the kind of active build I enjoy.

Again, thanks for all of your input, and if you have any questions directly for me please don't hesitate to ask and I'll get back as soon as I am able.
  14. I've had bad luck with the mastermind class, I enjoy it for a few levels and then get bored to tears. I know that part of my problem was that my first mastermind (which I grudgingly too to 44 before deleting her after almost 3 years of on/off play with her) was a BOT/FF. She couldn't be killed because she couldn't be hit, but it was so incredibly boring to play because I didn't do anything directly.

I spiced it up a little with a Demon/Storm and a Beast/Time, but grew bored of them both (storm in the teens, time in the low 30s). I *think* the reason I became bored with both of these is that I have high level characters (a Defender and a Corruptor) with 'Storm' and 'Time', and have a tough time playing a set more than once.

To that end I have created a Necro/Nature Mastermind that is now level 19. She seems to require me to constantly be doing something to both kill enemies (though indirectly through pet commands), and buff/healing to keep myself and my uglies alive.

Is there anything I should be aware of for this particular combination? It is fun so far, and I like to pretend she walks the line between life and death with these two power sets, which adds a bit of mental fun to the picture.

Any suggestions or comments are welcomed, thanks.
  15. I would love that. I have a bunch of alts and just because it says "Dominator" doesn't mean I remember what powers s/he has.

And IMHO they've got it right. You can choose to not run Incarnate stuff if you feel it makes you too powerful. You can run Incarnate stuff and choose not to use Incarnate powers too. You can even pretend the Incarnate powers aren't Incarnate powers and just an extension of your already existing (but maturing) power base.

Personally, I don't think I've bothered reading any mission text since about the second year of this game, I'd rather just blow stuff up, but to each their own.
  17. Slightly off topic, but can anyone explain (or point me to an explanation of) the new 'absorb' mechanic. I cannot seem to wrap my head around how this works?

Hmm, possibly. I guess I hadn't really thought it through, not of a marketeer myself. I'm not so sure it's something I would use, but I suppose it wouldn't make too much an impact at that.
  20. Step 1 : buy 3 small red (150 inf)
Step 2 : Convert to medium red
    Step 3 : buy 3 small red (150 inf)
Step 4 : Convert to medium red
    Step 5 : buy 3 small red (150 inf)
Step 6 : Convert to medium red
Step 7 : Convert 3 medium reds to one large red
Step 8 : place 1 large red on market for 1inf, get 100,000

Nope, too easy to make tons of money by doing nothing...

  22. I got my laptop this afternoon and have run a few DA +4/x8 missions so far. The screen is a bit small, but at 'medium' settings (a few things turned up), I can run at about 45 fps without any issues.

It's not a gaming laptop, but for the $ it delivers pretty good. Just in case anyone was wondering how this turned out.

I also ran an ITF last night and didn't lag through it at all. Very pleased with my purchase.

I was mistaken. I have since run more tests and it does not drop. It does however suppress as others have said. Basically my crab does better because he is positional defense, and I can live with that because Itsy is my true love in this game.

Shield has a clickable mez protection yes? If so, that proably lends a lot of credence to it being a 'stack thing'. I'm assuming that you have enough recharge that your click mez is actually staked a good portion of the time as well.

Possibly, but it did happen twice in the same mission. The first time I died FAST. The second time I made sure to toggle everything up and was kind of waiting for it to happen. I popped a break free, cleaned the mob, and checked my toggles.

Three had dropped, my mez protection, Chilling Embrace, and Icicles. Which makes sense to me. If they drop my mez, they would automatically detoggle my offensive toggles too (as I understand it).

I *think* in the second instance I actually pulled two groups together because I was trying to make it happen, but that's a bit fuzzy in my head right now.
