When they brought in the three new Thundercats in the old series, at first they were just Thunderans and stated that per Thundercat society rules normal Thunderans couldn't live in the royal palace/cat's lair. However Lion-O felt they had more then proven themselves and used the sword of omens to make them into Thundercats, they now had the Thundercat symbol and whatever power boost comes from being a Thundercat.

Can't remember why Slythe opposed them in the old series, though.

Here are my thoughts on the premier: Warning!!!!! SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!

::::::: Begin spoilers :::::
I like the way the history of thundera is presented in a way that it could almost be the original series' events. A very nice touch.
I about fell out of my chair laughing when Clawdous said “I never negated my duties as prince” I was so about to scream “BULL **** YOU DIDN’T LIONO!” But then I remembered this isn’t Liono. This is Clawdous. Maybe they were going for that piece of irony? Nice touch if they were.
I like how Liono is ambitious and more then a little rogue but not simply "I'll do everything my father doesn't"
Tygra's arrogance... I donno. I'll have to let that one stew a bit. I’m a little confused about his relation to Liono though. He calls Liono brother and Clawdous, Father but Grune specifically says that Tygra is not of royal blood line. Adoptive brother perhaps? Ceremonial brother in arms maybe?
I LIKE Wily Kit and Kat. I mean I really like the whole thief aspect of them. I think that works so perfectly with their original characterizations.
Cheetara... I donno. There's more going on with her then they've said. I'll have to wait and see what happens with her. Possible Love interest for Liono down the line? The fact that she and Jaaga are Cleric, and thus sorcery users again seems to help round the original characters. Cheetara always had this…. Extraness about her and the fact that she uses magic helps explain it a little.
I actually like the whole no-technology angle. It helps explain why the thundercats used melee weapons versus later weapons and the like.
I like the fact that they had Grune actually involved in the fall of the Thunderian empire. It helps solidify character a bit. I’m willing to better that he’ll be a recurring character in the series.
The fact that Clawdous and Panthro were old friends helps explain the more fatherly approach he had to Liono in the original series.
I admit, I was a bit irked with Snarf being just a pet, but over all I think it works. I mean I practically had a great dane for a nanny when I a child.
Mumm-ra… I’ll have to see where they go with the character and what do with it. I was expecting something more akin to the Emperor from Star Wars. Decrypted and frail looking most of the time. But when needed, he transformes into the Everliving form and just super-bad-***. Now maybe that will still happen. We didn’t get to see it in the premier. He got cut off by the rising sun.
Over all thoughts based on the premier: I’m interested in it. I want to see where they go with it.

From what I could make from the original series and recall from it. Slythe and his crew were from Planet Plun-darr and just raiders who stole resources from other planets, natural resources and its inhabitants as slave labor, to use on their planet. Also I think Slythe was after the Sword of Omens due to hearing about how powerful a weapon it was. I think in a later episode it was explained that Slythe was also secretly looking for the Sword of Plun-darr, a weapon that was equal to the Sword of Omens.

Yes, that sounds about right. IF I recall, Jaga's ghost told Lion-O of the Sword of Plun-darr and how Jaga cast it down into the core of Thundera to destroy the sword but the power of the sword blewup the planet instead.

Got a chance to rewatch it w/the GF.

We both enjoyed it and like the overall take on the mythos.
As to Snarf, it feels like the writers were trying to channel Ryo-ohki somehow. In the way of giving Snarf just a bit more overall intelligence that it would appear. It's the best way I can describe it.

Thank you for the time...

I thought it was all right. Actually, due to the way they're weaving things (already being on Third Earth, etc), it's almost like it's a continuation of the original series but "a thousand years on", and adding in the "historic repetition" (including the "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it" sentiment).

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I do NOT want to see Snarf turn into a battleship.

When I saw that big gem/rock thing pulled into the castle grounds, the first thing I thought was "Trojan Horse"! And I was right. It was just too obvious.

Overall, though, I really enjoyed the show and my TiVo is now set for a Season Pass. Too bad the rest of the episodes are only 30 minutes long...

I was REALLY impressed with this. My son was picking on me at first, because I had attempted to watch the original with him a few years ago. He thought is was pretty stupid then, and he was 10. Tonight (he is 14 now) he sat down and watched the reboot with me. He said "WOW! This is cool!" which made me happy.

My expectations were pretty low on the new Thundercats. I never saw the original (don't judge me!) so don't have the original to compare with it but I have to say I really enjoyed the new series. I'm looking forward to seeing new episodes.

Now if only COH came up with a quarterstaff melee powerset like Cheetara used. That'd be cool. =)

Should we start taking bets on how CN will mishandle this series?

Maybe they'll show seven more episodes and put it on hiatus with no news about a return from hiatus for the remaining 17 episodes for over five months, and vague promises of a second season next year.

Still waiting on Young Justice, if you hadn't guessed.

I see in Sho's SDCC photos an entire Young Justice action figure line so I would think it's coming back.

Still ticked about Sym-bionic Titan.

This.

Weisman's even said that they have 3-4 episodes fully done and in the can just waiting to be released. Why CN's dragging their feet on it, I don't know.

Why must you ruin the things we love, CN?

Maybe they are waiting for a bigger buffer? so they can show the rest of the season in one shot? Nothing is more irritating than getting into a show then have it go on hiatus because the makers don't have enough episodes in the can. YJ is a great show, but I can see why CN is waiting for the right time to bring it back.

I know some time last month CN accidently posted one of the new episodes on their website.

Although I hate these reboots (Animated and live action) for nostalgic reasons, I can understand why they are doing so many. I mean have you ever looked at any of today's original cartoons/shows/movies? Yuck!

Although I won't lie I want someone to remake Silver Hawks but make it edgier/darker, but none of that big headed, top heavy, skinny legs anime stuff.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

I wasn't worried about cancellation, since they apparently ordered a second season. A couple of bright spots for the series are out there. Namely that it, along with Brave and the Bold (both reruns) are back on the schedule this week, and that Teletoon is set to premiere Young Justice next month, which probably means that a good chunk of the supposed 26 episodes are done or nearly done. Hopefully, we'll see the remaining episodes starting in November, at the latest. Plus side of that is that the wait might be reduced between seasons 1 and 2.

Edit:This actually got me interested, so I visited Greg Weisman's blog. He confirms that there are now 9 more episodes in the can and ready to air, 3 more in post-production, 4 in production, and one in late-stage pre-production as of August 1. He also confirms that the initial 10 episodes confirmed for season 2 are in various stages of pre-production, and that they have been given the greenlight to begin breakdowns for the next 10, although they have still not been given the order for them as episodes.

Oh now this is interesting indeed...

Noticed something on ANN this morning (Link). Basically a 2-disc set will come out on 10/18/11 for $20.
If the info is correct, the 176 minutes roughly breaks down into 7, 25-minute eps. If you count last week's hour long as 2 eps., that leaves 5 to go. That would put the last new aired ep. on 09/02/11.
Seven episodes. That's it? Hell, Young Justice had a bit longer of a run, I thought. sheesh...

Thank you for the time...

7 episodes for the first DVD release? Sure. But I'll be waiting for the full season set, thanks. Plenty of other cartoon shows put out a few episodes at a time on DVD to drum up sales for people who can't wait to own it.

Young Justice is clearly waiting for the season to finish rather than releasing it piecemeal on DVD, that's all.

Actually Young Justice is doing the same thing. Vol. 1 of season 1 is out on DVD already.

CN needs to have more episodes of their GOOD cartoons in order to build a following.

The amount of TERRIBAD they show that does not go on hiatus just makes the long hiatuses for their good shows even more inexcusable.

Also new Thundercats ROCKS! Thanks for the FIANLLY SILENT SNARF!!!

Indeed. More good cartoons, less Dude What Would Happen, Destroy Build Destroy, Hole In The Wall, and King of the Hill.
