Bearing in mind that we don't have proof yet, I don't like the look of this at all.
For what little it's worth, my only two Very Rares came when I was leading the League and typing a fair bit. Oddly enough, one of them came on a BAF when my team didn't even touch the reinforcements at all. (I had structured the League so that all the people who still needed iXP were in the adds team.) Leading is rare for me; guess I just don't like the feeling of responsibility.

Then again, I've been playing a fairly high-damage, AoE-capable character (Mind/Fire/Fire Dominator). Up past 30 runs now and only one Common, btw.

Maybe I'll run some Hero Stats tomorrow. Interesting stuff in this thread.

I think this.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I just want to add my 2 inf to the discussion. I did baf 3 times. One attempt I put everything I had into doing as much aoe damage as possible on my scrapper. I got a rare, second attempt I wasnt able to do much aoe due to dieing alot because our tanks sucked at the time. I got uncommon on that run. 3rd run we had better tanks and controllers so I was able to get alot of damage in. I got a rare this run. So now I have all the new stuff to tier 3 and a tier 4 only on the alpha. It looks as if I am gonna have to get like retardedly lucky to get this done.

Here is a post I made on the subject in a different thread.

To add to that I have also started working on my Rad/Pistols defender who has tons of AoE effects (debuffs, mezzes, damage, buffs/heals). My luck has been very good. Mostly uncommons and 2 rares. I have Judgment unlocked and slotted with a tier 3 and Interface is almost unlocked. I have run about 8 trials.

My Emp/Elec/Power has run 5 trials. 2 common, 2 uncommon, 1 rare so far. Not sure how I'd rate my participation yet on that character.

I have run about 60 successful Trials with Amerikatt (non-shapeshifting Peacebringer), and the best I have gotten have been Rares. My experience has been mostly Uncommon rewards, with Commons actually being offered significantly less than the Uncommons.

I have had to burn through most of my Threads in order to make the 2 Tier 3 Destiny enhancers I need for that Tier 4 (if I *ever* get a shot at Living Relic) and a Tier 3 for both Judgment and Lore. I have enough to make a Tier 3 Interface (if I decide to take the Gravitic line) and even have enough material to *make* the Living Relic Very Rare if 400 MILLION Influence magically becomes available (but would I *really* spend it if I could?).

All my reward success has been running in BAF. For my four successful Lambdas? 10 Threads -- EVERY time!

I have been on the verge of tears several times now. The Tier 4 Destiny means a lot to Amerikatt, as I have been waiting YEARS to get an AoE Heal.

Although I do not usually use pets, I decided to field test my Tier 3 Seers, and I had a nagging feeling that they actually detracted from my reward at the end of the Trial. Thank-you, Master Zaprobo for reinforcing my suspicion!

Looks like the Seers will not be coming out during the Trials anymore. I only hope that I will still be considered a Level 50+3.

I also have to wonder if my numerous disconnections and frequent visits to the hospital make the AI think that I am a new participant or a (*shudder*) leecher, because I would think that 60 (of 80) successful runs would have yielded at least one shot at the Very Rare table by now.

EDIT: By the Blessing of The Great Cat Mother, I *just* got my Living Relic! I now have the AoE heal that I have been dreaming of for years! RAWR! ((It only took me 83 Trials! *sigh*))

This would be great.

On my Wolf Spider Huntsman toon I have no complaints.
But on my Traps I have yet to SEE an uncommon or higher table after 50 or so runs. I have gotten the booby prize (10 threads) quite a few times.

Last night I ended up spending to upconvert the trash I have to Rares so I could get my level shifts, because I will HAVE to save for 60 Empyrean merits to get a Destinty and Interface to T4.

You have nothing to complain about.

I will be shifting to my Fortunata today, hope I have the same luck as my Wolf Spider Huntsman.

I hope we're able to figure out what affects the rewards sooner rather than later. I've done 10 runs on one of my Dominators, and have gotten 10 uncommons. Not a single common ,rare, etc. Uncommons every time. I get uncommons most of the time, on most of my toons. I've started paying attention to who's getting rares. It's too early to draw any conclusions but mostly I'm seeing Scrappers and Blasters getting them. I've been working mostly Corruptors through the trials, and although I'm doing my best to apply as much damage as possible, I'm still getting uncommons almost exclusively.

Keeping in mind the possibility that there's some kind of "participation" score involved, I've been buffing and debuffing as much as possible, even when it serves no purpose. So far there hasn't been any noticeable change in my reward tables. I hope the answer isn't "play something with more damage."

Your experience mirror's mine on the BAF trials with my nrg/nrg blaster.

Well just ancedotal but I figured I would try running a trial or two with my fire/kin troller.

Mind you this troller was not even alpha slotted so I had that working against me.

First run - Rare table
Second run - common table (spent a lot of time dead because we went for Keep Em Separated with the towers up)

Compared to my SS/Nrg Brute who has gotten commons and uncommons.

And yes I was assisting with leading this time as I was doing on my brute.

If you guys are running 24 member BAFs while everyone is combat level 53 and have a full tool box of incarnate abilities, then how do you expect to contribute? Lower the team size to 12-16 for BAF and 8-10 for Lambda and you will generally get superior results.

Isn't is known that the "Participation Weight" is based on the same system used in the Praetorian open missions?

As per Castle:

Quote:
"Damage, in itself, is not part of the reward criteria. Otherwise, we'd have situations where Scrapper vs. Defender would almost always yield smaller rewards for the defender.

The guys who built the scoring system have gone to extreme lengths to ensure that everyone who is actively participating gets a fair share of the rewards. "
So doesn't this say activations, on Mobs per second is the thing?
  • Large aoes with short activaiton times: Good
  • Single Target attacks with short Activaiton times: Good
  • IO'd High recharge builds: Good
  • Pet activations (other than inital cast): No Credit.
  • Pseudo Pet activaitons (other than intial cast): No Credit.
I would HATE to be paying a MM/Traps right now.

I haven't done any calculations as frankly I don't have that much time available to invest into it.

I can say that I have played my signature EN/EN blaster on enough runs to get teir 3's on all four slots. I have only ever gotten one Very Rare component on him.

He is built for being able to constantly fire an attack without ever having to run out of endurance unless he uses Nova.

So, I am always shooting something.. always.

Now...
My IL/Rad controller who only has three fast recharging attacks , near perma PA and the phantasm has run the trials four times so far.
2 uncommon
2 Very Rare

Now I *am* using the two rad debuffs constantly and firing off the regen debuffers as often as they recharge to. So something is always glowing green out there. But they are pretty much fire and forget for most of the fights.

Does this help or hinder those who are formulating conclusions?

I really wish I could transfer this to my main but alas we can not haha.

Just thought those forming conclusions might want to hear about this.

It helps my conclusion that whatever the exact formula is, Blasters and Controllers seem to be gaming it. I said at the beginning of this post that Controllers are consistently doing WAY too well on the reward tables for it to be random. And taking polls of reward tables / AT at the end of every trial has generally affirmed this.

Looking at the average reward disparity between MMs and Controllers within my SG and greater body of friends is just insane... You don't get this type of spread randomly.

I earned a Very Rare reward table today after a successful BAF. I'm using the same character as always, Dark/Sonic Def, and this is the 2nd VR reward table I've seen.

I've run the trials a combined 20-25 times but that's just a guess.

Meanwhile, my Earth/Storm struggles to even hit Uncommon and that only comes with extraordinary effort (being on the BAF adds team, rushing to spam AoE debuffs on everything before they're Judgmented to death anyway, etc). Despite my efforts, I'm getting Common/Leech tables as often as not.

On a test run, I trying interrupting rest as many times as I could. Result: Very Rare.

I believe it tracks participation by power activation. Testing still needs to be done, but try interrupting rest or a snipe as many times as you can and see what you get.

24 man BAFs will almost always yield mediocre reward tables when everything dies so fast. Try a 12-16 man run on BAF with your controller and see if you get the same results.

Click heavy ATs are doing very well (Blaster, Dom, Controller), which leads me to just LOL at combat's post above. Wow. Judging us per click, really? I hope that's not the case...

I tried repeatedly toggling Sprint on and off, and also bubbling the entire league all fight long, (and spamming pet commands, like as fast as I could hit the keybind) for the full duration of more than one baf, didn't seem to impact my mediocre-to-average rewards. There's another game I play that uses power activations as its metric (regardless of what the power does - and yes it was abused), but my experience is saying either CoH isn't using that system, or it's using a more complex version of it.

My MM actually gets roughly what I'd expect if it were truly random - so far 53.33% Commons, 33.33% Uncommons, and 13.33% Rare (No V.Rare yet, but "only" 15 runs so far).

It's just that the other alts I've run get nearer 5% Commons, 15-20% Rare, 5-10% V.Rare, and the other 65-75% Uncommon (and while Uncommon isn't valuable in itself after the first 8, it does suggest a higher chance of scoring Rare and V.Rare).

I'm tempted to try door sitting with a pet targeted and an FF buff on auto, see if I get the 10 threads or whether it thinks I'm participating and gives me a Common/Uncommon. Just don't know enough people to do that without getting a bad name for myself

It definitely seems to be based on participation for me when I lead Lambdas, but in a weird kind of way. In early runs, I'd follow my tanker friend and we'd pretty much be the first two attackers on every weapon cache. I'd then have my team pass me all the pacification grenades and I'd be the one to use them when needed. On these runs, I was about 60/40 on whether I'd get a rare or a very rare. Since we've all leveled up and learned the map, I still hit most caches but we're using less grenades now, so I'm almost 100% getting rares only from it.

This is on a rad/thermal corruptor. I pretty much only use my secondary on these runs to rez someone during the first three stages.

Must be based on clicking powers instead of putting a power on autofire if this is true. I continually spam Twilight Grasp and haven't noticed any difference from the constant commons I get. If the rewards are weighted based on participation, then it is unfair to certain players that are just as active, but don't have the same powers. I have absolutely no attacks on my MM and the only things I can use are twilight grasp, 2 holds, fearsome stare, Howling Twilight (use on AVs only or when someone needs to be rezzed), darkest night, and tar patch. Darkest Night and Tar Patch might not count since they are a toggle and target AoE and they aren't used that often. Howling Twilight is hardly used. I might use it 3 times in a trial. That leaves me with just Twilight Grasp, 2 holds, and fearsome stare. I can stun 90% of the prisoners that come near me on BAF, but since it is an aura toggle, I get no benefit from slowing down the minions.

If participation is an issue, then it should only be used to give the consolation reward to afkers. Meet a certain amount of participation that everyone who is active on the trial should get and they get the component reward tables. Don't and get 10 threads or 1 super inspiration. Everyone that actively participates should have the same chance at getting the rewards since not everyone can get to the level of maximum participation required for rare and very rare to be a relatively common drop. 50% for a common, 30% for an uncommon, 15% for a rare, and 5% for a very rare for everyone that actively participates would be an effective method to not screw over MMs and other players that have a hard time of participating

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Hmmm ...

Here's a weird one. I was just on a 24-person BAF with my fire / fire / fire dom. I DCed just before the prisoners started to escape and came back half-way through Siege. I faceplanted twice, and rezzed at the hospital once. I still got he Uncommon table.

When I came back for Siege, I did nothing but spam Blaze, Cages, Fireball, and the ST hold. No Bonfire. No RoF. I summoned the lore pets once (they didn't last long). Summoned Imps once (lasted about 10 seconds).

So, yeah. My dom missed nearly half the raid. Contributed nothing but damage (I've never seen Siege and NS mezzed). And still got a decent table.

I mean, seriously, this system's goofy.
