If you like Speed Boost so much why don't you marry it?
I dropped SB on my Kin/Rad Defender at level 34, made that toon actually enjoyable to play! I don't miss it at all and like Michelle stated, what I can leverage with Fulcrum/Trans et al is usually more than enough for any team. When I team that is.

Sometimes I wish "support" ATs were a more self-focused on buffs with an added buff-others slant. As it is, it's the opposite where they are focused on buffing other with a buff self slant. As all the ATs become more powerful through the Incarnate System, it would make more sense to see some sort of shift.

You aren't allowed to play the way you want to, only the way PumBumbler wants you to. Get it straight, pal.

There's stronger ways to play and if you don't want to do it, that's fine. Claiming that it's just as good when it isn't is being facetious to the point of prevarication.
Get that straight now?
It was for this very reason I decided to just not take Speed Boost. No skin off my back.
If you like making sure everyone has their SB buff (consistently), if you take pride in timing a transference buff because you saw the blaster nuking you filled his/her end bar without having their toggles drop, if you like being able to damage cap that brute, then kinetics is for you. Just don't count on doing a whole lot of direct damage while on a full team that is constantly on the move.
If you don't like that type of activity then kinetics will be a 'meh' set for you, or worse, a set that drives you mad. |
It's not a matter of being lazy. It's a matter of this being a game that glorifies individuality yet still manages to have players telling others the "right" way to play. There are recommended powers, but expecting someone to meet your standards is the antithesis of the premise of City of Heroes.
I hate myself for posting this... But I hate you all more for making me hear it in my head... thus, I have no qualms with trying to get it stuck in your heads.
Don't you wish your teammate SPEED BOOSTED like me...

I must be have the only CoX toon that doesn't have SB.
THIS (and the fact most folks w/SB use it so damn willy-nilly) is the reason why
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

If they give SB a longer duration they damn well better give me the option to deny it.
In our SG, if you have a kin, you have SB. You use SB, specially on the tank. If people aren't around when you are firing off SB, their loss. Speed Boosting everyone makes anything we do so much faster than some random attacks from a non-blaster. We all have kins and take turns in our TF's and such so one person doesn't spend 4 hours spamming the power. Not saying this is the right or wrong way to do it, it's just the way we do it.

I think it is just something you have to accept about the set or move to another. I recently was playing a bubble defender, and while the crazy eye-rolling rabid cries of "SB MEH!" didn't flow as often, it wasn't all that different when it came to handing out the bubbles, I just did it because I knew the team would be more effective (and bubbles has two powers to apply per team member to boot).
It's been awhile since I've played a Kin, but I just don't mind standing in the back a lot and dealing out the SB while people wipe up the floor with the mobs - it's a heck of a lot less stressful than having some angry Freakshow breathing down your squishy neck.
Know what bewilders me even more than Kins that refuse to SB? The ones that, for some reason that I cannot fathom, only Fulcrum Shift after they've stood back and fired off some attacks and end up only hitting one lousy remaining bad guy.
(Though the 'Gather!!!' types are the ones I reserve my true ire for. Shut up and fire that damn thing off as we rush in, for crying out loud!)
