Blu-ray Must-Haves?
Basically any fast, loud, pretty movie will do. 300 is my go to showcase, but Speed Racer is nice for the color options (could be shorter though). Also fond of the Dark Knight as the Blu Ray expands to full 16:9 for the scenes shot in IMAX.
Still, it highly depends on the movies you enjoy in the first place. I find the level of detail you can see in the shots of cracked pavement and earth in No Country for Old Men pretty impressive, but that's not the kind of movie I'd want to rewatch enough to make it a purchase anyway. Any movies you particularly love to watch in the first place?
Keep in mind up converting a DVD only displays it at 1080, but nothing can actually go in and add the detail lost in the initial transfer. It'll certainly look better, most of the time plenty good enough, but there's still something to be gained from a native HD source.
Also, IGN has some suggestions:

I suggest all of the DC animated movies... simply because they rock and have a lot of good extras.
Up and Wall-E look really good on blu-ray.
Star Trek XI
Batman Begins , Dark Knight and Jurassic Park when it comes out .
Watchmen is a really good Blu-Ray movie. Movies that feature a lot of color like that and Avatar are very good on Blu-Ray.
Deadwood.

If there is one Blu Ray you have to own it's this. Even just for the scene where the Enterprise maneuvers out of Titans atmosphere.

If I recall right from the one big-box place I worked at...
One of the AV guys, who really wasn't much of a Sci-fi fan, enjoyed seeing the Blu-ray version of The Fifth Element. This guy rather enjoyed seeing the movie in Blu-ray and felt it was a must to really see what the HD experience was all about.
The film is a cult fav and worth seeing. I'd consider it.
Thank you for the time...
I'm just going to throw Inception out there... since I didn't see anyone else mention it.
And also, even though I haven't seen it yet.... I hear Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is very good on Blu-ray.
The new release of Avatar is good. Lots of extras and new scenes.
Toy Story Trilogy
Iron Man and Iron Man 2 are pretty stunning on blu-ray.
The Original Star Wars Trilo- wait, whaaat?!? HOW can this not exist already?!?

Last I heard, Star Wars is on its way for sometime next year.
All the movies I was going to recommend are already here (300, Watchmen, Star Trek(you haven't seen lens flare until you've seen it in high def!)), and when it gets here Suckerpunch. Basically, just about anything by Zack Snyder.
Anything with a rich color palette and lots of small details looks good on blu ray. My personal favorite example is An American Werewolf in London. There's a scene near hte beginning where a woman in a pub is holding a teacup. The DVD version it looks like a wide red band on the cup, where in the blu ray you can see it's actually a rather intricate pattern that's a lot of celtic swirling.
That aside, Ghostbusters looks great on blu ray.

So I recently picked up my first HD TV and a PS3 (along with a GameFly account), and I'm trying to think of films that would be considered practically mandatory to have on Blu-ray these days. Any suggestions?
Also, I previously purchased a DVD player with HD up-conversion capability, so I'm looking for movies that would really give me something with Blu-ray that I wouldn't be able to experience with an up-converted DVD.
