  1. The only thing that jumps to mind is a Stone Tanker I had where I followed bad advice.* Of course, that remind me that I was introduced to this game by a friend who hated every choice anyone ever made.

"Your Energy/Devices Blaster will be ubergimp." My first and easiest 50.

"No one will want to team with your brother's Kinetics/Electricity Defender." & "Sapping is not an effective defending strategy." I'm sure I don't need to explain why these are so funny.

(To my girlfriend) "You made a Fire/Fire tank? Was your goal to be completely ineffective?" Her first 50. Her damage output is eye-popping for a Tanker.

*"Don't bother taking or slotting any shields on your Stone Tanker, you'll be in Granite all the time anyway." I actually tried this advice for awhile...boy was that dumb.

"I got to lvl 50 to make a Warshade, and they suck." I love my Warshade! I admit this one isn't as black and white, though.
  2. Since I play primarily blueside, I didn't have much exposure to Stalkers until GR. My favorite AT is Blaster, and I have to say that Stalkers feel very Blaster. That's not at all to say you should avoid aggro. Absolutely scrap it out once you've done your AS thing.

I prioritize targets much like a Blaster, in that the things that you can take down quickly should be taken out quickly. I'll Placate a Boss to get his aggro off me, then turn around and SLAM a lieut to remove them from the fight ASAP.

Funny story that's a little related: I was teamed up with a Corruptor in Praetoria, and she invites her significant other who is also a Stalker. I had to full-on tank because he would run in, AS, run away to wait for hide/AS to recharge, and repeat. I kept asking, "Where are you going?" and never got a response. I have no idea how this 48 month vet (if I remember correctly) could watch a Stalker stay in the fight, and think his was incapable of the same.
  3. Read what you posted, and I like the action. I can picture the flow, and chaos of what's happening just through the clipped dialogue. I imagine more character development comes before and after this snippet.

I only have one real gripe, and that you said this is "by fans, for fans". The amount of cursing might not jive with the "T" rating of the game, and a lot of fans. It is possible to limit the cursing without removing the movie's teeth.

For the record, I'm not offended by it...and I'm fairly sure you're aware of this potential "limitation". The cursing likely matches your vision of the film since you did write the script.

    Just putting it out there!
  4. The only thing I could provide is voice-over, but I would love to help!

I think this is a fine idea if you can get the right team together. A Pick-up-Group for an ambitious project like this can get rather daunting. I certainly hope the right talent comes forward to get your vision off the ground!

Now that I get the details, I think this is a fine idea.

As for terraforming, even our technological level could terraform Mars. and we are still using chemical rockets to get to there. Now its would be a long process to get it to have a self sustaining ecosystem, but maybe 50 years when we get there we can get the atmosphere to heat up to close to Earth standard and have an dense atomsphere at earth's pressure. You'll need a oxygen mask for it then, and maybe some sunscreen, but we could do it. Now imagine you have the ability to make enough energy to do FTL.

Let your mind imagine these worlds or other worlds, let the writer write and fill thier worlds, and let us all be one in harmony.
Make that 5 feet of caked-on sunscreen. We currently can't produce a magnetosphere, and that's pretty danged important.

Sorry for nit-picking, but that seems to be the theme for the thread
  7. It already shows their AT (and origin) as an icon.

Do you mean powersets, or do you really want the AT spelled out?
  8. I participated in one sewer team many years ago. I found it head-deskingly boring, and have vowed to never do one again.
  9. Here's my update:

Didn't re-roll yet (but I'm very sure I want to). Helped my girlfriend really skyrocket her Plant/Storm for double XP. Holy moly, you guys are right. She just got Lightning Storm, and I am amazed at the stuff she can accomplish. Most missions I felt nearly useless.

For the record, it's not exactly the clickiness that bugs me about this character. It's being a Scrapper with a ridiculously clicky secondary, and a boring primary. One of my favorite current projects is a Blapper, and I haven't seen anything else that has to click more than he.

I love all the feedback in here guys. I really appreciate it!
  10. Thanks everyone, with special mention to Gavin (that's a great post). If nothing else, I now feel brave enough to delete a lvl 31 character...the highest I've ever deleted. You guys gave me direction, which is exactly what I had hoped for!

I think practically any concept can work thanks to power customization, so I might just go with Ice or Electricity on a Dominator. I think I'll post an update after the weekend so you all know what I tried out.

As to Plant/Earth Dominators, the two sets don't synergize particularly well, but they don't work against each other either, so if that's the combo you want to roll I'd say go for it. Out of curiosity why is Plant/Thorns not up for consideration? It seems like the thematic pick.

The reason I say I don't think Plant/Earth works together all that great are twofold. First is that after using Plant's main group control, Seeds of Confusion, you usually want to follow up with AoE damage, which isn't /Earth's strong suit. Second is that /Earth is one of three Dominator secondaries that gets Power Boost, which does very little for Plant. Seeds has a long enough duration that there is no need for Power Boost.
I have other Scrappers that need far less babysitting than Regen seems to require. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but he's just too squishy.

Plants/Thorn is the natural choice, sure. That's part of why I don't want to do it. I've noticed a theme with other characters that burn me out: they feel too "samey-same". I want a him to remain plant based, and I don't currently have any Plant Control characters. It seemed perfect, but my mental block is making it difficult. Earth seemed good for concept reasons.

So, go ahead and shoot in the dark! I'll take anything that doesn't use Spines (Thorns is okay as long as it's not with Plant Control) or Regen.

    EDIT TO ADD:

If you can't even do your own missions at base difficulty, that's something too.
Fun is fun...too subjective. The Regen set is too clicky, but that's not to say other clicky sets are out. I'm just fed up with him, and have no intention of "fixing" him through IO's or otherwise. It's time for a new character.
  12. I have a Spines/Regen character that I've had since 2004. He was the 3rd character I ever made. I have one little problem, though: I hate him.

I just wanted a plantlike hero character. Every build I can come up with either in-game or in Mids turn out to be rather ineffective/unfun, or prohibitively expensive. He's almost lvl 32, and I keep feeling like I should give his T9 primary a shot before nuking him...but I never play him.

I love his name, concept, and backstory. I'm looking at making a Plant/Earth Dominator (2XEP Weekend seems like a good time), and I want to know if these sets synergize into maximum fun. I'm mostly soliciting the Plant/Earth Doms here, but any advice is warmly welcome.

    Thanks!
  13. Good advice!

Strangely, I had the opposite issue. I didn't have enough bodies to keep my WS going, so I had to turn up the number of enemies (but not levels).

Very glad to see you enjoying your 'shade, no matter how you accomplish it!

    Adaptions & You

secondly, i could possibly see your reasoning if someone "adapted" a book by writing another book...... but transferring medias is, in itself, a reason to do so. regardless of the end product and whether you appreciate it or not is not the point, it's the reasoning behind it. Which you must assume is "i like this (insert original source material), wouldn't it be great if could turn it into a movie". haven't we all thought that exact same thing about a beloved story from our past? and aren't we all equally assured that we would absolutely hate what someone else has done with "our beloved material"?

your rant is unsolicited, and since it wasn't in response to a specific adaptation, it smacks of self indulgence, born of the anonymity of the internet. thank you oh so much for foisting your angst ridden, misspelled complaints on all of us.
I suppose this is a proper "nerd rage" post, then. Calling the kettle black, eh?

Traegus, isn't this a specific adaptation? <blinks multiple times> I think it is! Anyway...

You keep mentioning Queen of the Damned, and I have to agree on that one 100%. I've walked out on 2 movies in my entire life, and this was one of them.

A feminist can't be defined by her makeup choices anymore than she can be defined by her clothes choices or her hairstyle.
Exactly. Feminism is about choice. You're free to express yourself in any manner you see fit.

I rarely agree with you, Golden Girl, but you're hitting the nail on the head in this thread.

I agree with you, Golden Girl. Women wear make-up for many reasons. To think it's purely to look attractive to men is a little sexist, actually. Part of female empowerment is celebrating your femininity. Be strong, be a woman. Wear make-up or don't...whatever makes you feel like the best you possible.

I don't think make-up conflicts with Wonder Woman's style at all.

I should be nice more often!
Right on! Feels good, doesn't it?
  20. I admitted that the set could use love. I just don't think it's as bad as the "you picked the wrong secondary" police say.

Also, it's better to try and make a point without trying to insult people, Patient V. That snowflake garbage is only meant to inflame, and it's unecessary.

I did my best, Shaggy! I hope you can learn to love your characters, but if not, don't keep them in the stable "just because". For me, this thread is done.

*tosses caltrops, and ducks around the corner
  21. No, please. I'm not at all against item decay, and this is a great way to keep inflation in check...but it's too late in this game's life to make such a drastic change. Good idea, but not for CoH.

We need a sink that is accessible by most, and wanted by most. Something where the more you put in, the more reward you get. Ideally, it should decay like you've suggested. It's needs to be recharged.

How about buying Patrol XP? Even that feels flawed.

Edit: Bolt from the blue! How about buying a temporary buff that increases drop rates of non-rares? You need to use inf (dunno what amount) to purchase the buff, and the drops you don't want will go on the market. Marketed drops incur a fee. Demand lowers, so prices lower.

This way it can potentially burn the candle at both ends.

Fixed for you. As the original post of the thread implies, Devices haters need not apply. Some of us are trying to help fellow players re-evaluate characters that are collecting dust.

I'm not saying to go make a character with Devices. I like it, and for others that need help in making it work, talk to me. For those that say "just make traps!", I have Traps characters (yeah, plural!). Too bad we're discussing Blasters.

Duuuuh, suddenly I realize my mistake. Devices is duh-umb! I lack information, and desire to be a snowflake! The game has evolved past me and my main character because I adhere strictly to my concept! I take back all the absolutely true things I said about the set (and even the subjective stuff I said about Tactics).

Thank you sir for pointing me in the right direction. Boy have I been wasting my time.../sarcasm

While I agree with the second half of your post, the first half lives under a bridge.
  24. You're right that munitions seems most thematic. You could put a Steadfast +3 DEF in your Body Armor to get a little more bang for your buck. The villain side powers would need some RP justification if a straight laced cop is using them.

Force Mastery can easily be explained as a kind of technology, and I love the look and feel of the set on my Energy/Devices. While I do have a DP/MM Blaster, he is only 20, I can't comment on specific synergies.

    Best duo?!

My suggestion is to go with different AT's. If you go with same AT's, choose different powersets.

This has nothing to do with effectiveness, but more to do with not feeling samey-same. That gets boring. This suggestion is to maximize fun since everything will work just fine when it comes to nuking NPCs.
