Discussion: What's your Origin?
I back up the comments that it's weird to go from "Natural" to Nature. Still, this is incredible. Lovin' the design. Day One Purchase.

I was hoping for a metallic cape, but I also was hoping it could have the tribal designs the original capes had...
Alas, I may just have to stick with the cloth one on Silver Spider's SG costume. Still haven't decided if the pack is worth $10 to me though so I may just live with the cloth capes.
hmmm.... Tough call on this pack.
I skipped the Wedding Pack. It had a few really nice costume pieces, but nothing else for me. I did think about it for a while, though.
I didn't even consider the Party Pack for an instant.
This one is tough, though. The capes and auras are REALLY nice..... but it just seems kind of.... 'lean' compared to a lot of the other packs. I mean, the science pack lets me change my characters size and gender! The natural pack gave me Ninja Run! These are big deals.
(The Wedding and Party packs are the only ones I don't have. I have all other packs and expansions on both accounts.)
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
$10? Hmmm, considering the lightness, I'll probably end up passing. There's still a Natural, Science, and Wedding pack I'd need to get first if I were to buy any boosters right now. Maybe some day way down the road after I have those three and it's better for me than whatever, if anything, comes out between now and then.
To answer some questions:
Price The City of Heroes Origins Pack will retail for $9.99 / 8.99 /£5.99. When November 2nd does sound like a good day. I think November 3rd is a better date though. The Capes It may not be obvious in the trailer, but the Impervium Mantle cape is Ultra-moded. The art team did some miraculous things to make that happen. Nature Origin It turns out that there is no Nature Origin, however, there is a Natural origin, which the updated trailer now reflects. What's so Mutant about Founder's Falls Penny Preston is in Founder's Falls. Plus it's a really cool looking zone. Finally, as Ocho noted, these are themed. Your Technology Origin Praetorian Robot Corrupter is free to runaround with the Autumnal Cape and Bio Plasma aura, starting at Level 1. |
but Penny Preston is kinda creepy O_O
Buying it
There is no such thing as an "innocent bystander"
As I said in the other now locked thread, $10 for a pack that doesn't contain the amount of content available in other packs is just too much for me.
The way I see it, over time, the price for packs has relatively stayed the same but the content for the packs has decreased. Not cool in my opinion.
well, the price surprises me a bit, but overall it has enough that i want that i am still buying it.
I don't like the trend of having to pay extra for stuff that we used to get with our monthly fee at no extra cost. However this pack IS a step up from the Party Pack and having the auras and capes from creation onward pushes me into the "will buy" crowd.
Ok Let me try to put this as succinctly and clearly as I can.
From the party pack I was under the impression that Super Boosters cost $10 and others cost $8.
The difference between a Super Booster is it comes with a non costume related perk. Therefore 1+1=2 so this should not be $10 as is.

You should be happy that there are no temp powers, like ninja run, that would make you want to buy the pack, or make it a special pack that you "should" buy for an extra edge.
IMO I don't see anything wrong with these, since more profit=more coh/lasting longer and not dying.
Still no jetpack back pieces? No deal.
So let me get this right:
5 Capes
10 Auras (Technically 20 if you count Always-on and Combat separate Auras)
All available starting at Character Creation and for all pre-20 (Capes) or pre-30 (Auras) existing Characters.
For $10 US?
I'd say that it's a reasonable offer. If it was just that they unlocked normally, then I'd say no. I would then say this pack would then be worth between $6 - $8 US to me.
It is worth noting that while I do plan on purchasing this pack, it's not without reservations. I think the overall value, per Booster/Pack, has been falling off over the last three (GRCC, Party, Origin). I believe the real issue isn't the Quality (save the Stealth power in the GRCC), but what the overall value given.
Generally, what the playerbase expects for a $10 US Booster/Pack has been:
- One to Two Costume Sets (Full or Partial) for all three body types
- Several Emotes
- Some novel power or similar ability
Now with the GRCC Pack, we got most of that, save a rather crappy temp power, for less than usual (about $7 US, IIRC...) Booster/Pack cost. It's not bad, but I hope that Marketing doesn't consider that the new base line.
I have expressed my displeasure with the Value of the Party Pack in several of the official and non-official threads. I don't feel I need to bring it up again here. That said, while the quality of the emotes is wonderful, I can not see myself purchasing this particular Pack ever.
Now with the Origin Pack, we have a quandary. This Pack doesn't fit under the usual item amounts of a typical pack. So how to measure it's value? What we are getting is:
- Three to Four more Capes than usual
- Six to Eight more (or more depending on how you count) Auras than have been featured in a Booster/Pack before.
- No actual Costume parts, save for the Capes and Auras
- All items in the Pack available to all Characters on the Account at Character Creation or without being the minimum Level and running the required mission Arcs.
It's the last item that brings up the overall Value of this Pack, to me. The majority of my Characters that would use the Auras are mainly 25 or lower. As I have a nasty case of Altitis, I'd say that using some of these Auras on those characters is gonna be a nice thing.
I just worry as to what the future of the Booster/Pack givings are going to be. I think a better balance of what gets put into a Booster/Pack and what is delivered in a Issue release might want to be looked at in better detail.
Thank you for the time...

Too much money for some very marginal features IMO. Will be passing yet again. The CoX team must be hard up for cash to charge for such items.
$10 is more than I expected. Not enough to make me walk away, but enough for me to sit on my hands for a while. Shucks. :/

You still get the normal things with our monthly fee, these are just supplementary items, that are basically there for people who want extra stuff, and to help COH with their profits.

"Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids. November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin! Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine! Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex! No capes!"
But the auras look quite nice, so I'll probably buy this when I buy a copy for Kyo's account.
I'm so sick of that anti-cape thing being thought of as true... Only fools die due to capes.
*gets his cape blown up over his face and suffocates*
Oh... And I really want that Impervium Mantle Cape (cloak, thing... haha, isn't "Mantle Cape" redundant, needlessly repetitive and the like and so on and so forth?)
