If you could make a new zone, what would it be?
I honestly don't know. I'd much rather discuss how I'd revamp existing zones that either don't get as much love as they should, or need to be updated to fit in with the game's meta-story advancing.
If I had to make a new zone, though, it would be somewhere (or somewhen) other than Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, or Praetoria proper. I don't think we have an desert areas, so maybe something like that. Or since most of Praetorian Earth is still destroyed or overrun by DE, I'd like to create one of the other places that are mentioned as being rebuilt. Vegas or Tokyo, for example. So we can see what life is like away from Cole's protection and his rule. |

Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

I hope they stay away from adding too many zones. We have way too many now.
Instead of making new zones, make some epic TFs/SFs with completely unique maps and experiences.
A couple of years ago, I had a dream. In this dream, we were able to enter "Valhalla." But, this version of Valhalla was something that would be like merging Mercy Island, Atlas Park, and Nova Praetoria.
In our "Valhalla," we would have access to many different features. There would be a "wall of heroes past" that listed the names of level 50 alts that were inactive for more than a year. You could then click on their names and read any bio information or badges. This way you could still "remember" the friends you had that left. Kind of like a tribute to all of those that had fallen.
In our "Valhalla," there would be a giant Funeral Hall where people could go to "kill off" an alt. In reality, what you would be doing is locking, and saving that character info and freeing up character slots (beyond 36) and allowing you to make, save, and restore alts that were deleted/frozen. Then once you have all 36 slots taken up, you can repeat the process so you could have unlimited alts per server.
In our "Valhalla," there would be a giant "Hall of Records" that would allow you to view all of your characters data. Time of creation, hours played, etc. You could then allow/disallow access to others so they could view your data.
In our "Valhalla," also in the "Hall of Records," we would be able to copy character data so that way you could temporarily copy a character to another server, play, get badges, earn items, then after the time period you selected has expired, the character data is returned to its homeserver and the temp copy is deleted from the new server.
In our "Valhalla," there would be a specific area for RP'ing things like Weddings. There would be a contact that pulls the character info ($name, $gender, etc) and would have a random announcement flash across the screen, so that all in the area could witness the "wedding vows."
In a nutshell, "Valhalla" would be a multipurpose zone that would, basically, have all of the proposed "Vault" info available, ingame, rather than have the server issues when it comes to pulling data outside of the game.

Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^

A medieval zone would have to give us long dresses too, so that's a big reason for needing it

With that unpleasantness out of the way, please make with the Dark Astoria and Shard revamps which are so desperately needed. Would not be averse to an underwater zone, even if it takes a combat-free area to swim through to get to the missions. [No powers can be used while swimming or something like that.]

Something like Chinatown would be nice. But yeah, chalk up another vote for "dip into the lore and revamp existing maps to make it all work."
*pause*
You know, not a separate zone, but something I'd really, really like to see added to either Atlas Park or Galaxy City? The 'hero' equivalent of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I don't know WHY I just thought of that, but something like the Eternal Flame on JFK's grave? I just think it'd be really nice to see there, and actually have Longbow or Vanguard or PPD SWAT or something standing guard there.

That's one of the things I love about the Lamda Sector in Neutropolis. Parts of it look like a normal suburban neighborhood (though a bit roughed up). I love all the small touches it has like that gas station. I hope we see something like that in a new Paragon City zone sometime.

Oooh.... suddenly, I want.
And this!!!
#1 would be an Eastern theme zone, with NPCs wearing the samurai and ninja outfits.
#2 would be anything in outer space.
Types of Swords

I'd like to see a zone like TRON, where we get digitized and shrunk to computer-component-level size, and have to fight the evil mapserver to make the City safe for all networking citizens.

I think an ancient Egyptian zone would also be very cool.

An oroboros future Japanese city, the zones would be seperated between the capital, where the enemies would be ultratech and modern espionage themed, similar to the setting of ghost in the shell. lots of giant robots, bio weapons and psychically enhanced super soldiers. and an outskirts area where sorcerers would be calling up different yokai monsters to fight for them. even some ghosts of various dead sengoku era warlords to add some authentic samurai and theatrically inaccurate ninja to the mix without looking silly. costume pieces would, of course, have to keep up
and a dinosaur or monster populated "lost world" type zone.
Some good ideas here. And I agree with revamping the Shard.
An alternate world zone loosely based on two Portal Corp missions. Nemesis died or lost control of his creations, which have run wild and destroyed all life on Earth. In its place is a worldwide steampunk-robots civilization. A place of brassy, shiny buildings and platforms, of giant gears and pistons slowly turning and pumping. The inhabitants are shiny brass machines, most ignoring you as they go their way like Praetorian Clockwork usually does. This is one of many warring cities, each ruled over by a Fake Nemesis which seeks to supplant the others as the "real" Nemesis.
Meanwhile above the city floats the domain of the sole survivor of the destruction of organic life by the automatons: the Psychic Clockwork King. A huge mass made of scavenged brassy scrap, it floats above the brass landscape held aloft by the telekinetic will of the King. On a regular basis flying Psychic Clockwork raids the city below to destroy Nemesis machines and loot more scrap.

A proper airport zone. We have the place on the actual ingame map! Lets make some use of it !
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
Enough is enough! I have had it with these Monkey Fightin' <Hero/Vigilante/Rogue/Villain>s on this Monday to Friday plane!
Prehistoric zone! With Dinosaurs! |
Or it could be full of Snakes.
Also, the door into the mission would have to be in a proper airport.
A space/other-planet zone. Whether a moon zone, mars, wherever...
And to be lazy... what FredrikSvanberg said here:
Orbit. Earth far below, moon high above, fly granted to everyone in the zone. You enter and exit through a space station airlock. The space station is often under attack. There are various satelites and chunks of rock and other space stations scattered about the zone, with different enemies inhabiting them.

Also, I have always wanted to see a western world in an mmorpg.
I'd definitely enjoy any and all time travel aspects, although I understand the enormous undertaking each of those would be (Just about every single damn thing needs a new art asset).
Other than those...
an Abstract Dimension Zone!
Ups, downs, lefts and rights spin in confusing disorder... land, sky, water, brains... all mixed up, messed up and impossible to understand.
How I'd go about that... Not entirely sure... But something that makes the Shadow Shard seem like a plain, sterile, white, perfectly-square box.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
I'm kind of torn, there are several ideas.
1. Desert research facility, which has links to kheldian, nictus, and rikti. Special content for Kheldians.
2. Egyptian ruins, with new enemy groups. (Blood of the black stream? Mummies?)
3. The underwater cities of the coralax. (No powers but "swim" allowed outside of bubble areas, where normal powers are used.)
4. The psychic plane, accessible via meditation by psychic/mind players, or via psychic contacts. This is a world where aspects of different zones meld together, and the souls/minds of various NPC's come and go as they think and dream.
5. Moonbase, but with corresponding orbital space station. The moonbase is mainly peaceful, but you go to the space station for zero gravity combat against invading fleets.
6. Ancient medieval times, via midnighter's club. Not vs. sci-fi enemies, but against arcane invasions of ancient/future times who have infiltrated the midnighters' time travel.
7. The Netherworld.
Hmmm. For variety's sake, I lean toward the psychic plain/Egypt.
I'd agree to a DA and CF revamp - badly needed.
Most of what I can think of works better for a map as opposed to a zone, though. Elemental maps - netherworld (with random tentacles. >.>) Ice - with patches that, yes, you CAN slide around on. Fire - don't go AFK in the wrong place.
Alternately - though I don't know why we'd have it - a crystalline based zone. Some borrowed effects (like the COT damage/regen/recovery crystals,) some new (amplification of energy-based powers if fired at specific crystals,) some you need to be careful near (get KB'd against, take some damage from 'sharp' edges) and some destructible (which leave a small AOE damage patch from the shards.)
Mine would be exactly like Dark Astoria, only with contacts and missions and stuff to do besides nuke zombies (although you could do that too).

You know, I think the plane would make a better mission map than a zone. You could defend it from Sky Raiders, try and stop an Arachnos agent from getting their parachute ang jumping out...

"When heroes fail, the Angels will save you."
MASTERMIND NUMERIC KEYPAD PET CONTROLS
HAMIDON NUKE RAID GUIDE
The Zig, hazard and PvP zone, miles of hallways and secret areas/air ducts/tunnels from cell to cell. Half the Zig has been sectioned off, one half in riots as prisoners are trying to make their escape, the other half being attacked by Arachnos and their superpowered criminals trying to free more of their own, either for Project Destiny or to bolster their numbers to fight off Praetorians on the Rogue Isles.
The Hazard Zone (level 30-45) would have a Back Alley Brawler and Blue Steel trial. Back Alley Brawler's (30-35) deals with regaining order with the levels above ground, eventually leading to the defeat of Frostfire, Dr Vahzilok and Clamor who collaborated their efforts to start the riot, failable as they try to make their way through the winding corridoors of the Zig to try and escape once under 50% health.
Blue Steel's (40-45) deals with the lower levels of the Zig where the real supervillains are kept. Your team and Blue Steel work together, with the team leader choosing their team's path mid-mission using a similar interface to the Praetorian morality missions, with Blue Steel heading in the other direction. One mission, timed to 3 hours, with each path you take leading to different AVs. Featuring: Dreck, Bile, Arakhn, Archon Burkholder, Nocturne, Captain Castillo then, at the very end, Nemesis? inside a tunnel being dug by a Nemesis Mole Machine which temporarily broke down. Nemesis? is waiting outside with a sizeable force, when he reaches 75% hp an ambush comes consisting of Blue Steel as an ally who will help to take Nemesis? down.
The PvP zone (32-42) works like Warburg with Heroes and Villains fighting over NPC prisoners who will follow like the Warburg scientists. Villains have to get them to a safe Arachnos controlled area to be taken away by Arachnos Flier, Heroes have to take the prisoner to a safe area where the cells are being kept in lockdown. Due to the Zig being difficult to navigate with many secret areas and shortcuts, it could make the strategy of fights very interesting.
For extra incentive, there would also be wounded SWAT dotted around that you can escort to a locked armoury. Villains taking them there to force them to open it, Heroes taking them so they can arm themselves and recover in a safe spot. By unlocking one, you receive a riot/PPD themed temp power; Beanbags, tasers, riot shields ect. plus maybe a chance for a PvP IO.
That would be what I'd do, my zone to contribute.
