If you could make a new zone, what would it be?
You know, I think the plane would make a better mission map than a zone. You could defend it from Sky Raiders, try and stop an Arachnos agent from getting their parachute ang jumping out...
Or it could be full of Snakes. Also, the door into the mission would have to be in a proper airport. |

edit well the first 4 mins of it
I would have some new "Rogue Isles," ones that aren't under the yoke of Arachnos and have their own stories to tell. You could find secret labs and ancient ruins, plundering them for their valuables. Enemy groups that sort of show up and fart (I'm looking at YOU Spetznaz and Goldbrickers) could expand and grow. Last, but not least, it wouldn't have to be a story that would revolve around making Arachnos better or making things easier for Arachnos (sorry, Hardcase, but some of my villains would like to watch the Howlers tear the Giza apart).
City of Villains still has amazing room to expand. We're getting arcs where we feel proactive now... Let's stomp around on territory that isn't claimed by somebody else!
My Stories
Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.
1. Shadow Shard revamp and co-op
2. Dark Astoria 3. Boomtown 4. Eden 5. Creys Folly Revamps; making old stuff new for everyone. |
I would like add The Hollows and Perez Park to that list too.
In particular the Shadow Shards have potential for major expansion with mini world-lets, co-op and perhaps even gates to other alien worlds.
It is well past time to begin the reclamation of Dark Astoria as well! In another thread someone once suggested doing Ouro "Flash back" type missions to help tell the story of the fall of Dark Astoria. That could be tied in and used to lead up to the whole zone revamp. Particularly if it were configured to have content for all levels of play.
As for completely new zones, I would like to see some transitional zones with content more for Rogues & Vigilantes.
Mr_Grey mentioned some new Rogue Isles not controlled by Arachnos, I love this idea! I also fully support the popular moonbase concept.
Undersea zones have been brought up before, while I would rather not be swimming around, a doomed underwater "Atlantis" style city between the Rogue Isles and Paragon City would rock. It would be perfect for a Rogue & Vigilante zone.
The inspiration came from Sigil (D&D's outerplanar city), it doesn't have to a multiversal crossroads, but it could be like the Shard version of K'un-L'un (reached after doing a series of missions) or the last remants of the old world and something that Rularru wants to destroy or maybe its a monastic city devoted to Rularru???? Beyond new mission sets and critters I dont know what the draw might be, but it would have been a neat way to introduce purple inventions or even a neat way to introduce some new enhancement class, new powers or even new ATs into the game (this power is not available to the mundane world, I traveled to a secret place to get it).
Agreed as well.
------->"Sic Semper Tyrannis"<-------
Techbot, I am disappoint. No offense, I'd like to see the Shard fixed up too, but it doesn't have to be co-op, and I LIKE co-op zones! But the Shadow Shard, as it is has places we've NEVER SEEN in-game yet, like the Garden of Memories ruled by Uuralur the Mirror, the Cube Factories, etc.
Plus, while I'm normally against more Arachnos stuff, I think it'd be cooler for villains to enter the Shadow Shard on the back of a MASSIVE Arachnos Space-Carrier-esque (Especially if it's firing broadside energy cannons at attacking flying Rularuu soldiers) thing instead of the plain old Firebase Zulu.
And for my own stuff: I know i'd like to see more places beyond paragon and the Rogue Isles, I even had this huge idea for three zones that made up something I called "Emiya, Japan" with unique villain groups and everything.

1) I'd set the Trains so that randomly a "spot mission" would occur where the train was either being taken over by para-military (Council, 5th Column, Arachnos, etc) or the passengers were being robbed (Hellions, Skulls, Freakshow, etc) or someone had glitched the controls so it was going to go faster and faster until it crashed. In any case the map is the train interior and you need to make your way to the conductor's cab to complete it. This would only happen when you're not on a team and not set up to run a timed mission.

I would also like to see more Midnighter zones, like expanding Cimerora, and adding the Old West and Mideval zones that have so often been brought up here and in other threads. It would even be a good gateway to a Prehistoric Dinosaur zone.
An Ouro "Far Future" zone could rock too!
That's one of the things I love about the Lamda Sector in Neutropolis. Parts of it look like a normal suburban neighborhood (though a bit roughed up). I love all the small touches it has like that gas station. I hope we see something like that in a new Paragon City zone sometime.
|
To whomever it was who created that gas station: I owe you a soda or a brownie or some Twizzlers or something, seriously!!
Oooh! I got a lot of ideas but I think they can be compacted into four main zones.
Time displaced zone- Some kinda Ouroboros mishap? Or maybe the 5th are up tot heir old tricks again? Anyway here you have the zone divided into several quarters such as one part of the zone is a 1920s city with early family thugs walking around fighting early pulpish heroes then it transitions to jungles full of dinosaurs then ruins with knights then desert with cowboys etc you get the idea. GIANT MONSTERS!!! included! Such as King Kong or maybe retro robots?
Spaceship zone- Flying over the earth you can use this kinda like Ouroboros but it comes with more mishes and the ability to space walk and fight off some Rikti or other threats like Nictus. It would require your toon to re enter the ship every 15 or so mins as a means to get oxygen kinda like the bubble feature in the Terra Volta Respec
A subterranean city that's more modern not like orenbega but like submerged sky scrappers and old derelict buildings underneath Paragon City's other areas perhaps? I mean Boomtown would've caused a section or two to fall down into the sewers....Mutants living over it?
Freedom Phalanx or other signature hero or villain base- It would feature things like memorabilia and plaques. Kinda like a museum but super hero. You could see Longbow or trainee heroes hanging there getting orders and PPD bosses talking stuff over with other hero factions perhaps?
Hmm make a new zone?
Imagine this:
Either Portal Corp, maybe some Astronauts (moon or further beyond), explorers of the deep deep sea or some other group have decided that they want to explore a strange new world. They enlist our heroes, and they go through the portal/shoot up in the sky with the ship or something.
This group has already set up the basics, spearhead base, for further expansion.
The contacts in this base will give out various different missions. All missions will advance the spearhead base or "Real" base through the players missions, and most importantly the players decision on what to spend materials/benefits from missions etc on.
Example: Do we need to make a barracks to train npc soldiers (For protecting the spearhead base, or this might add extra npc's to help in the mission later), or do we create a scientist station (for higher quests, better items/recipes etc), or any other kind of building?
What I'm thinking is a hazard zone really, where the choices of the players will be able to have considerate consequences for the exploration team. If the players mostly go for science or rewards for themselves, instead of say more security or development of the base, well the exploration base might be overrun and all sent back to primal earth.
Que take two where they try at it again, from scratch!
The zone would have plenty of new critters (alien type) and mayham style things... aka possibility of destruction. Oh yes and one of the defending items would be... a big laser cannon, for when the big big GM size critters want to throw us out of the zone. And robots!
For rewards I would have some nice recipe/enchantments, various new base items, costume parts and merits.
Depending if the base actually survives all that the npc environment throws at it (and the players) the tiers of reward from missions, critter drops etc would go from 1 to 5. (With 5 being purple maybe incarnate stuff)

The Zig, hazard and PvP zone, miles of hallways and secret areas/air ducts/tunnels from cell to cell. Half the Zig has been sectioned off, one half in riots as prisoners are trying to make their escape, the other half being attacked by Arachnos and their superpowered criminals trying to free more of their own, either for Project Destiny or to bolster their numbers to fight off Praetorians on the Rogue Isles.
The Hazard Zone (level 30-45) would have a Back Alley Brawler and Blue Steel trial. Back Alley Brawler's (30-35) deals with regaining order with the levels above ground, eventually leading to the defeat of Frostfire, Dr Vahzilok and Clamor who collaborated their efforts to start the riot, failable as they try to make their way through the winding corridoors of the Zig to try and escape once under 50% health. Blue Steel's (40-45) deals with the lower levels of the Zig where the real supervillains are kept. Your team and Blue Steel work together, with the team leader choosing their team's path mid-mission using a similar interface to the Praetorian morality missions, with Blue Steel heading in the other direction. One mission, timed to 3 hours, with each path you take leading to different AVs. Featuring: Dreck, Bile, Arakhn, Archon Burkholder, Nocturne, Captain Castillo then, at the very end, Nemesis? inside a tunnel being dug by a Nemesis Mole Machine which temporarily broke down. Nemesis? is waiting outside with a sizeable force, when he reaches 75% hp an ambush comes consisting of Blue Steel as an ally who will help to take Nemesis? down. The PvP zone (32-42) works like Warburg with Heroes and Villains fighting over NPC prisoners who will follow like the Warburg scientists. Villains have to get them to a safe Arachnos controlled area to be taken away by Arachnos Flier, Heroes have to take the prisoner to a safe area where the cells are being kept in lockdown. Due to the Zig being difficult to navigate with many secret areas and shortcuts, it could make the strategy of fights very interesting. For extra incentive, there would also be wounded SWAT dotted around that you can escort to a locked armoury. Villains taking them there to force them to open it, Heroes taking them so they can arm themselves and recover in a safe spot. By unlocking one, you receive a riot/PPD themed temp power; Beanbags, tasers, riot shields ect. plus maybe a chance for a PvP IO. That would be what I'd do, my zone to contribute. |

Alternatively, give us some more time-travel areas like Cimerora. A Shadowrun-esque future zone would be awesome.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I would be all for a space station zone, selfishly because I would like space station blueprints to be made available for the Base Editor / AE someday.
I'm one of those who would love to see all the old zones revamped and a whole new modern city replace the old with all the improvements we have seen the last six years.
Perhaps PS can send the design team on a paid vacation to Dubai for some inspiration.

I'd do an Oranbega zone, accessible through various underground entrances (Troll Hollows, Mount Diable, Nerva, etc.). Make it a co-op where heroes and villains vie against the Circle of Thorns. Throw in some Mu-related stuff (maybe a SF/TF), get the Igneous involved (maybe Igneous the Magma Master could finally show up as a GM/AV). The Midnight Squad would be the primary organizing force for heroes and villains in Oranbega.
Also, in re: Mr. Gray's idea of non-Arachnos allied Rogue Isles, I'd love to see them put together some kind of Warburg co-op SF/TF pitting heroes and villains against the nutty Marshal Blitz.

Despite (or including) my previous posts there are sooooo many things I want to add to this list! The Midnighter Club really really needs added zones, not just to the past but to other alternate reality pasts. There are so many suggestions in this thread that all deserve a spot. Old West, Victorian Steam Punk, Egyptian, Feudal Japan, Prehistoric Dinoville. And what about futures and alternate futures? Yes please! A Reichsman/5th Column reality. A more magical world controlled by The Circle of Thorns, the Dark Panthian, Dark Earth and Snakes. The beauty of alternate realities is that many maps could be recycled with minor tweaks.
So many other good ideas in this thread too. If we had some forum wizard willing to spend the time and effort, then perhaps they could all be compiled into one updatable list. *Bats eyes at the forum Gurus*
Revamp a LOT of zones like Dark Astoria, Shadow Shard, etc.
Wilderness zones - tundra/arctic, desert, jungle.
Time travel zones - medieval, feudal Japan, prehistoric/dinosaur, Aztec, ancient Egyptian (can kill 2 birds with one stone with the desert zone).
Cultural/real world cities - voodoo/New Orleans, tribal african, London, Shanghai, Moscow
High fantasy zones - gothic horror, faerie realm, realm of the dead, Atlantis
Alternate planes of existence - netherworld, elemental planes, heavenly realm, hell realm
Sci-fi - Alien planet, alien ships, moon, steampunk
Some of these can be lumped in together perhaps depending on how the realms are envisioned, i.e. netherworld and realm of the dead.

They should make a zone with floating rock islands and otherworldly denizens and maybe you'd use like...force geysers or something to move around between the floating islands.
That'd be awesome.
