Incarnates?!?

If the soon to be implemented Incarnate system lets you choose a deity, as I assume it will, which deity will you choose?

Will you pick from the rough and ready Norse pantheon? Odin? The mighty Thor, god of thunder? Loki? Kelllllldaaaa?

Or perhaps the Greeks! Zeus! Apollo! Ares! BAMF-in-residence Hephaestus! Or, dare to dream, Dionysus!

Egyptian? Ra? Horus? Osiris? Isis?

Or will you be more obscure? Quetzlcoatl? Tiamat? Vishnu? Amaterasu?

In-game gods like Tielekku and Lugebhu?

Let's wait and see, sonny.

I suppose it would depend on the character.

I strongly feel they should not tie the incarnate system to dieties officially.

Leave it up to the players to explain the power how they choose. Anyone can incorporate it into their backstory as they wish.

A ton less work for the Devs without the hassle of people nitpicking and kvetching for thier favorite mythos, or how nothing they have available to choose fits their character concept.

They might go with the angle that the Well of the Furies is just a power source for divine power, and the only reason it has a Greek name is because the ancient Greeks were the ones who found out about it, so they gave it a name from their mythology.

If I have to choose from a select list of deities, I'd hope Inari is in there for my main and her sisters, just because well, they're daughters of Inari.

Though I think it'll be a little more generic, for the players.

My Dominator and her Praetorian Controller counterpart (I might decide the dom is the Praetorian if it turns out to make a better back story) just scream for Hecate. The only other diety I have in mind for a character is Athena for my sword-shield scrapper, but that might get sticky since she's an alien...

I'm thinking that they probably won't actually dub any with official deity names and we'll end up with something like Origins. "You're an Incarnate--whether of Odin or Elvis Presley--and get cool powers from their mysterious cosmic presence!"

Being a lackey to a few Patrons was bad enough: how much more would people complain if they only have 4 divinities you can take Incarnate from.

I think our diety options should include Betsy Ross, Br'er Rabbit, Columbia, John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Rosie the Riveter, and Uncle Sam

I doubt it'll be tied to god directly but if it is I'll be selecting Banjo

I highly doubt they'd restrict themselves to the powers of existing religious deities, or even mention contemporary ones at all. That's if they go with Gods at all. Me, I'd probably pick to be incarnate of the Earth, itself.

My going Vigilante, psychoticly inclined dual-blade scrapper will be picking 'Fluffykins, God of Small Furry Creatures With Short Lifespans.'

My Stone/Fire brute is already one, Crom Cruaich, an ancient Celtic deity whose main claim to fame is that he got beaten up by a crozier-wielding Saint Patrick.

Saint Patrick was pretty damn kick-***, what with his god pummeling and snake bashing ways.*

Even then I'm not sure anyone who let himself get beaten up by a priest with a stick can be considered an Incarnate really.

Who knows how the system will work. All I can assume right now is that it's going to be long and tedious. I'm just hoping there will be something that grants +Def and +Regen and I'm good!

If Haruhi Suzumiya isn't an option, I'm quitting forever.

Will Cthulhu be available?

I could see him offering Mind Dom powers of some kind.

I suspect it's going to be more like Healing Incarnate or Damage Incarnate, rather than specific higher powers.
