Remember way back in the day when this thread got started and everyone was like “WOW those are great resistance costume pieces, I can’t wait to wear them, splat, splat, splat,” and “Oh super keen, first I changed my desktop to a lolz cat and now my crippling depression doesn’t seem so bad anymore, because I have a reason to live again, I get to wear glowing stuff.” Well, get out a mop and find something sharp. That picture is of a NPC, not a new costume set.

Me so sorry about that there wasn’t a clearer explanation of what was going on in the screenshot, I really am. But when you get down it and think about this rationally, this is really your fault, you jumped to a conclusion. You know I told you a thousand times not to do that, but I guess I need to teach you another lesson in the silence of the basement, next to the treadmill you don’t use anymore. Looks like you and I won’t be going over to your mothers for dinner like you planned. Canceled! The writing is on the wall baby, you are going to just have to tell the neighbors how clumsy you are, and just deal with it. Let the guilt of your wrong doings lead you on a path to righteousness. You’re welcome.

See how I turned that around, take a note kids.
Okay, it's a very sexy NPC costume, I can accept that. The question then arises, will it be possible to HAVE glowing costume pieces for players? I know everyone loves the design of the costume in that shot, but I'd venture to say MANY loved it just for the shiny glowy-ness of it.

So... I can haz glowies?

Wow. That was nice. Could this be one of the many reasons why this game's player base has become so low? Probably!

Seriously, we get a screen shot with no explanation after months of waiting and then are told it's an NPC? Seriously? Wow is all I can say. I really hope GR is worth the wait. Looks like GR might have to be a big deal in order for this game to retain players. For me, it is the make or break point. Too much other stuff going on for me to put up with the way NC Soft has been treating the CoX customer. Way too much competition out there and it's growing

While I agree that we did jump to a conclusion, I do not feel that we can be blamed for doing so. I mean, we've been told we can join the resistance, and then we're shown a member of them, in what appears to be a full uniform.

I think that it's going to dig away immersion-wise if we can join the resistance but are then denied access to their armoury.

P.S. If we absolutely can't have the glowy, but some form of resistance uniform would be an option, I'd give you love-squeezings forever and stuff. xx

Wow, I know I've been spending way too much time on the forums when I can actually understand Jay's stream of consciousness posts.

Yes, it would have been sweet, but it does seem that the glowing “Tron-esque” armor is NPC specific. There could be a dozen reasons why it might not work as costume pieces – these things are always way more complicated on the back-end than you might think.

That being said, your overwhelming response to the armor did not go unnoticed by the Devs, so they are definitely aware that if there is ever an opportunity to bring you costume pieces of this nature, you want them! I wouldn’t be surprised if the wheels in their heads are already turning. I’m not saying that anything will end up coming out of it, but our Devs tend to be pretty good at fleshing out all the possibilities.

And by the way Jay, we don't have a basement.

Ocho, some days I think you community reps are keeping this game alive. Thank you for translating.

With that said... I think it would of been better if this was communicated in the original post, or VERY soon after. It can's be said that this is a new occurrence, because the SAME thing happened when the pics of the roman armor were posted.

Resistance and Praetorian Guard booster packs should be considered

It should not have taken 260+ post for a dev to come here and dis-spell our misplaced high hopes. Jay, WW, love you to death, but this could have (and should have) been dealt with on page one.

Actually, there's a smattering of a history of teasing us costume pieces that turn out to be NPCs. (See: Imperious, etc.) The NPCs always have the fancy unique costume pieces, and thus have more of an advertising potential than the players.

I'm not surprised that it turned out this way--but it doesn't mean that I'm not disappointed. Tagging the picture with three letters ( N P C ) could have easily prevented any of this speculation.

But where would the fun be in that?

EDIT: and between Jay's post and my post, the community reps again swing into triage mode.

Are there really any costume parts we don't want? Personally speaking, I don't even like the way the system works where every gang has unique costume pieces that we can never have, from complicated things like Freakshow arms down to baseline stuff like Hellions having ripped jeans.

One thing I don't like is when new things are added for NPCs which have limited visibility and flexibility when everyone involved knows players will basically never have it. If you look around the forums you'll notice that things people keep asking for are things like animated hair, loincloths, back options, and glowing outfits. So to make matters worse by adding even more stuff that players will never get to have is kind of stoking the fires.

I would think after things like Vanguard and Cimeroroans having new costume parts that we can have, new things in the future would be modeled around that concept, and not restricted as such. Maybe that means not adding new things that are as visually appealing as they could be, but I think I prefer that to adding new things that the devs know up front that they won't ever give to the players.

No, they shouldn't. They should consider giving us costume pieces for what we already pay, instead. Sorry, but showing us that picture without it being specified as an NPC and then saying "OH! You wanted that? Sorry, you don't get it. NPCs only. Unless you pay us another ten bucks after buying the expansion, which is already fourty dollars." That would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Well. More bad taste.

Wow, seriously, I can't believe this discussion has gone here.

It never once occurred to me that the screenshot was of an player character costume set. In fact, it occurred to me that it's standard for the NPCs to get things the players generally can't, and this was almost certainly such a case. I do hope it means we can get glowing bits in the future, however.

The preposterous sense of entitlement people can have never ceases to amaze me.

Ocho is right... we don't know exactly what is going on in the P.S. offices concerning things like this.

I hope that someday, the tech will come about to have these type of pieces... but give them the opportunity to see if it is feasible first before passing judgment.

He's messing with us. Remember a long while ago when the vanguard stuff game out and the devs said something along the lines of "We made the mistake of making most of the NPC costumes NPC-exclusive. We're not going to make that mistake again".

Or maybe I'm thinking of Champions Online.

While there is, indeed, an amazing sense of entitlement in today's players, I don't think this particular case is necessarily the best one to play that card in.

Consider that the costume pieces for one of other NPC factions in Going Rogue, the Praetorian Clockwork, _are_ unlockable for players. Given that the Clockwork are siding (presumably) with the Loyalists, the idea that the Resistance's power armor would be unlockable for players isn't that far of a stretch.

An assumption on our part? Yes, and perhaps an unwarranted one.

A "preposterous sense of entitlement"? Not so much.

That's just my opinion though, however wrong it may or may not be.

So Jay. That is our bad. I'll own up to it. We jumped to a conclusion and we didn't even have a good mat to do it on. However, if we did error it was because of two things.

A.) We all collectively find you so sexy and irresistible that we go crazy and lose all sorts of self control and logical thinking when it comes to you and your work, and we do silly things like a school girl with a crush.

B.) We love new things that are shiny. Luminescent costume pieces would be both very new and very shiny.

So the combination of going all GaGa at seeing your latest work and the image of new shiny objects, made us Squee prematurely. Forgive us please. Our error is one born out of love.

Now that I have owned up to it for the community, I ask only this. Light up costume parts please. We see that they can be done on NPCs and I think many of us would love the chance to have them on our Heroes, Villains, Rogues, Vigelantes, Resistance Members and Praetorians. They don't have to be just like the ones on that NPC, but light up costumes would be Amazing, and if such a thing is even possible, make us all find you even more sexy than we already do...

That's a fairly specific accusation. Personally I'd rather the Devs spent time working on the game itself, rather than monitoring the forum continuously just in case they could post a little bit earlier to save you a little time reading, posting and getting your hopes up about totally unsubstantiated speculation.

But maybe that's just little old me remembering that most MMO Dev teams don't interact with their playerbase directly at all (assuming they even have official forums) and that we should be grateful for the open lines of communication here - doubly so in this case, considering the lack of GR info in the last few months.

To preface my post, the devs are always coming up with amazing stuff that blows us away. GR looks to be no exception. However, the devs are notorious for getting us hyped up over something virtually useless. In this case, it is absolutely ridiculous. They hype us up for GR, make us wait months and then release one screenie. This screenie being of a character in a group we are told we can join. And yet it's our fault when after all this, we assume we can get the costume parts?!? What were we supposed to say? "Wow, that NPC looks amazing, I can't wait to go stare at him?" I'm sorry devs, you guys have done so much to keep me coming back, but this makes me start to question. In the future, please try to be more specific at the very least.

Here is where you lose. We have a community team who's job IS to read these boards. So THEY could have dispelled any misconception in less than 200+ posts.

You know, it is ok to get angry with people you like sometimes. I like the Devs, I even think Jay's posts are funny as hell, but I am annoyed that this was not made clear to start with, or at the least much sooner than it was.
