Apologies if this has already been posted, but I couldn’t see it anywhere.

I’m not sure on the validity of it as I haven’t had chance to do any more searching, but thought others might find it interesting.

City of Heroes MMORPG Headed to the Mac

Well... That will add an extra 2... maybe 3 people, to the game!

Don't knock it - that'd double the local population if they all started on Defiant!

Heheh - couldn't of put it better myself...

This does of course mean that we may have an influx of those awful goatee-wearing, black polo-necked, minimilist chrome-toaster-lovin design Nazis . On the upside we could get some coverage in Design week or Creative Review if marketing deem it worthy.

No such thing as a bad subscriber I suppose, but I'll reserve the names San Serif and Bauhaus to annoy as many of them as I can.

Slightly bizarre news, given that the game is 4 years old. About 3 years too late?

Still Brent from PvP Online will be happy now. Or would be if they ever discussed computer games in it nowadays.

I'm not sure if I want CoX on my Big Mac...

Official announcement will be available shortly, along with a bit more not included on that original link.

I think it's a great idea, and a simple way of expanding the player-base. Good work NC

Not looked at Mac software in the best part of a decade but back in the late 90s the Mac-based designers would leap on practically any half-decent game as they only released 1 per blue moon...

If it's still like that I could imagine this going down fairly well - though half the designers might never make it past the character creation screen...

call me evil but would rather see NC putting efforts into getting COX more publicity and more players than making a mac working version , afterall who uses that little toy called a Mac muhahahah

Az, you're evil

Anyway, I could be wrong (and I'm by no means an expert on this so someone correct me if I'm wrong) but reading the press release, it looks like some sort of software that lets mac users use the exisiting software to make it run on their machines, kind of like a PC emulator, sort of?

Transgaming make Cedega, which is based on WINE [http://www.winehq.org/] and it's *NOT* an emulator (Wine Is Not an Emulator), but a re-implementation of Windows APIs such as DirectX for *nix and BSD based systems. Cedega focuses heavily on the gaming side of WINE while other groups such as Codeweavers focus more on the application side (Their CrossOver app lets you run things like Office 2007 on *nix).

More recently, Transgaming has started releasing standalone "ports" of games for Mac and Linux that use Cedega (Such as this announcement about CoX). But it would be nice if they released it for Linux as well - the "problem" with Cedega is that it uses a subscription-based model rather than a pay once one.

I think this is actually quite cool! This is a very bold move by NC indeed!

This might just have ensured i sub next month, i've been dieing to play a half decent mmo on my mac. I have both a Pc and a MAC and lets face it, i'm sick of having to wait for my PC to load internet explorer.

I've been a PC lover from i started but MAC runs *alot* smoother than any PC will ever. Its this uninterupted quality that makes mac just as important to me as a gamer. Oh and... i dont get virus' on my mac

YAY for this?

Mildy jealous. The Mac users will be easy to spot as they'll all be using their Valkyrie special costume bits and TP'ing straight to mission entrances.

You can still pity them, standard Mac mouses only have one button.

Unless it's some simple wrap-around (which would be bad for the mac owners) this might end up causing huge delays in new issues etc.

I'm surprised they're not doing a full-out linux version instead if they wanna expand to new platforms.

Guess I might be moaning when this might turn out to be good, but... and that mission teleporter.... hmm, well, guess everyone will buy it but...

Soz for being a bit more cranky than usual this week, had to put my 14y old cat down this tuesday. Bit of a chock loosing that claws/regen scrapper-like furball.

They'll get strange looks in Starbucks......... can we have a Starbucks on Defiant so we get all the Haiku writing Mac users please? And some form of censor for them

So Mac Users can start playing this game now as well?

Well the more the merrier. Didn't know the mac community was big enough to bother developing games for. But I like being surprised.

BTW what mission teleporter? Can't find a link to that one?

I think its a a great addition don't see how it could upset anyone/anything. And it could be paving the way for linux compatibility too. Clever clever to open it out to as many people as possible.

Was only a matter of time till this happened tbh now macs use intel chipsets, and most games from what ive seen lately are PC and Mac compatible..
