CoX On The Mac
[ QUOTE ]

Most new macs are windows compatible nowadays.
My friend played a CoX trial on her new mac thing. She just installed XP and ran it.

Very true, although I'm not sure how well it would run through a Windows emulation, There are things like map plug-ins that obviously would not be accessible to the Mac community.
The Mac-only exclusive of a 'straight to mission teleport' is an odd choice in my opinion, Mac users any less capable of finding the mission entrance manually? - no!, ahh well... at least we know what the 57 Month Veteran award is going to be for the rest of us.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry. I meant to say most new Macs are actually just pc's. U can install XP natively. No emulation rubbish.
See - http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
Being honest i dont see why Mac users should get free what we end up having to pay for later anyway.
Give everyone it free.
Unless they make it so the Mac users get that free and have to buy the GvE pack. Then it's kinda balanced.
So long as its a different pack to GvE then that would be the case
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
That's the idea. The Mac goodies are instead of the PC GvE goodies.
I really should do something about this signature.

call me evil but would rather see NC putting efforts into getting COX more publicity and more players than making a mac working version , afterall who uses that little toy called a Mac muhahahah

Hmm, lets see.
I use a MacBook to write, my mates store is managed with an imac, 25% of his sales and repairs are for Macs, most of my mates are mac exclusives.
In fact, with this news I may start to move more towards macs as CoH was the main reason I was hesitant to start using Macs exclusively.
Macs are great (in my design studio experience) in a closed-loop studio enviroment - I happily used them for over 15 years, in fact I cut my teeth on Illustrator and Photoshop on the Mac.... but to be honest as a personal computer at home and out 'n' about I got rather tired of either a) peripherals bought off the shelf not being Mac-compatible or b) software not being available in Mac flavour. I switched just after the bordeline 98se/ME editions - so not so bad.
Anyway I digress, the more population to CoH/V the better.
Good job guys, But consider (as this is a digital release) of getting some artwork for the shelves of places like the Apple Stores and HQ in London and around the World. A shelf presence with box-art (even if it is a digital download) will make a massive difference.
All these posts and nobody made a "CoX in Macs" joke?
Zortel, I'm looking at you.

Especially since, if I remember correctly, Mac users will be able to buy the GvE goodies (Pocket D TP and Jump-pack)as a separate add on from the website anyway?
Edit: No, apparently you can't. Was it just me, or was there not a pack which offered the Jump-pack and TP without the need to buy GvE? Or am I imagining things?
Edit 2: No, I think I was imagining things. Oh well, it should be available for them to do that anyway.

I just get a bit annoyed with the tribal thing of "my technology is better than your technology, nyah nyah".

Macs are not "just" PCs. While the hardware is now pretty much the same since the switch to intel, the Mac motherboards use EFI instead of a BIOS for initialising the hardware. There are a few PC motherboards that are starting to add support for EFI (And Vista is EFI-aware) but it's still pretty rare (And why you can't just run OSX on a PC without some tweaking).
CoX Mac will not be running under any kind of emulation either - as I said in my earlier post, it will be using Cedega, which is based on WINE, which is a reimplementation of the Windows API, not emulation of it, which means it runs as fast (and often faster) than the native Windows version.
That all being said, make an offical Linux version damn you!

Better suggestion: Put it on 360 and PS3, so we can have the infamous community of WoW but nobody complains about not getting teams and low server population!!!

Because porting it to a console would involve a hell of a lot more work than is being done for this.
They'd have to completely rewrite the base code to allow for control pads (Which IIRC are not supported by the game currently), as well as rewrite the UI and various other features which in the current state of people demanding bigger updates is not feasible.
This on the other hand is a relatively simple process which will provide a boost to the playerbase.
Just to make sure, I mean relatively simple compared to porting it to a console.

I was j/king, hate the kinda people playing FPSes online these days...
You should know, joking doesn't go well with this community!
Well, being on this forum for almost 2 years has taught me that.
Hmmm, at least its not the one that hijacts your browser.
Its still groan-worthy though, so downgraded from a /em,slap to a /em,threathand.
I for one relish this I've been playing CoX on a bootcamped MacBook Pro since the start. I also relish the fact I will basiclly never have to load Windoze now xD
However I do have a bit of a rant here. For those in the case as me who've been on bootcamp, what happens if want to use the Mac version specifically? I have all my vet rewards and chars on my current account which is of course the Windows version of the game. I would LOVE to use this on OSX as the drivers for the gfx are better than the tweaked ones for XP. BUT, I would be furious if I were unable to retain all the chars and achievements I've got over the 2 years I've been playing.
But thats that rant done with and I hope NC does those bootcampers out there proud. I also congratulate them for moving to a platform outside of windows.
*cough* CoX2 windows/OSX/linux compatible please *cough*

Why rant about something when a couple of minutes of reading the official announcement thread for this topic would actually give you the answer you're looking for?

As with previously, what you pay for is your account. Those who already have accounts and have been playing using Bootcamp will be able to obtain a copy of the Mac launcher and continue playing with their existing accounts. No lost characters or vet rewards .

Eh? Most of Naylors missions are about 12 feet away from him.

Yes, but miles away from the zone or even SG Teleport entrance.

^^^ what he said
You're OK for a few missions off his arc, then your personal storage fills up and you need to go sell. Base TP will get you out and to Cap quickly enough, but it's a long trip back to pick up the missions again.
