Quote:Only about 1 or 2 of my 50s are seriously into the IO sets bizniz, not all of my other 50s (i have 9) even have IOs but still are mostly fitted with SOs still.
As for IO's being optional; I was never particularly excited by the invention system when it came out and tried ignoring it. It became quickly apparent, however, that I was not going to be able to do that. Try running an SO slotted character in a team fully slotted with IOs and you will quickly find yourself frustrated or just plain in over your head.
I run TFs all the time on characters trying to level them up, and I never once feel gimped compared to the other characters since I know we are cooperating together towards a common goal, not competing to see who gets the highest kill count.
Quote:I have to admit, though, that I probably have an unfair distaste for task forces and I am actually looking forward to giving them another try. My first task force, years ago, was a horrid mess that took over 8 hours and I've never been able to get excited about them since. I've been told since then that the particular task force I ran had big problems and it has since been fixed.
yeah, that takes about 2 hours now tops to do, and even then its split up in two parts that takes about one hour each to do..
Quote:You know, that just made me think of something - you know what I think a major problem with endurance is? There are lots of powers you can use if you're health is running low (self heals, defender heals, etc), but almost no powers to help when your endurance is running low. I think adding some endurance healing powers would be a good thing! Games like Dragon Age have them even though endurance isn't anywhere near as vital in that game. Maybe it could even be a new Defender power set! Who wouldn't want that kind of defender on their team! Hmm.. might go well with the end drain of the electric set too.
you have never teamed with a Kinetics, Radiation or Cold I hear... -
Thats right, the Cuffzter is back to bring bad ppl to justice, and eat donuts..

Peacebringers
You're so awesome that you dont need a team, so stick to soloing as much as possible. Advice the team of how to play in the best manner as you have a 50 and thus knows better.
What makes the peacebringer so great is that it can be played in any one way you like. If you like to blast, just pick Bright nova and stick with that, or if you like to tank, just get white dwarf and use that all the time.
The only reason to team with other players are the Void and quantum mobs. As soon as you spot one, hide until any of your teammates have defeated it. -
I was playing Star Wars Galaxies at the time, and due to the Jedi *****job SOE did on the fans people left the game, and some of these said their goodbyes on the forums there mentioning this new Superhero game theyve found. I thought it sounded interesting and tried it out for a bit. Then I went back to SWG for jump to lightspeed. And then SOE did it again.. they did another *****job with the NGE and utterly appalled on how a gaming company thought that this was a acceptable behaviour I left SWG and never looked back.
I suddenly remembered how fun COH had really been and with the rumours that there would soon be EU servers I went back to city of--- -

It's got more to do with the fact that Mayhems were designed with the idea that you fight your way to the bank rather than ghosting it really, the polar opposite to how Safeguards are intended to be played.
[/ QUOTE ]
Guess whoever designed mayhems have no idea how a real life bank robbery is done. At least safeguards is a little bit better.
Guess SuperVillain means SuperStupid. -
[ QUOTE ]
would this be in the same context as people who insist on flying directly to a bank when you have 8 on the team and dont actually realise that by doing that they trigger LOADS of longbow and then wonder why everyone is wiped out.
[/ QUOTE ]
This has more to do with that the entire team dont arrive at the same time because of the disparity in travel powers, or some schmuck being afk or still in the load.
The group teleport power, either in its pool power, temp power or veteran power version goes a long way to remedy this. -
Other examples:
the vanguard mission where youre specifically told not to alert the guards or fight the main boss, but focus on the 4 glowies.
the 10minute mission in peregrine. Its simply Im-poss-ible to fight your way thru to click all the glowies.. You HAVE to rush/ghost through it.
[ QUOTE ]
Because of the people and the non-button mashing parts of the game-play, of course, and specifically CoX because of the cossie generator. It rocks.
[/ QUOTE ]
except you cant make fox girls.. :P -

Powers like stealth, invisible, grant invis and recall friend are there for a reason.
[/ QUOTE ]
^^^ This. Ghosting a mission is just a strategy to deal with the mission. It is as valid as other strategies. I made my main ghostable now and can help out in the next tf she will enter.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the faultline arcs give you a temp power to infiltrate a arachnos base and unhindered find a glowie..
for the duration of the temp (1 hour) you can finish of the entire arc by using this.
One might ask oneself why would they make such a mission if ghosting was considered the "wrong way" to play it? -

And any really good team will have learnt to cope with it and to react accordingly. Storm defenders and controllers might have a hard time getting a PuG of newbies because they are so strongly associated with knockback. Experienced players dont mind, because they know how to handle the chaos and to use it in their own favor.
This might sound arrogant, but if there are team leaders out there who would kick you for using Knockbacks, I would counter with if they cant handle a little knockback, then theyre clearly not up to my standards and I'd kick them in return.
[/ QUOTE ]
TBH rather than arrogant it really does sound like you are less than good teams. Lets take a typical makeup of a team I get in with a tank, ice/psi perma-dom, warshade, blaster and a few controllers or whatever tagging along.
Tank runs in basically to take the alpha, followed by the domi with PSW while the WS and Blaster open up on the AoEs and the rest use whatever debuff/team buff/hold happens to be up at the time. The spawn melts and we move on.
Now throw some PB into the mix knocking all the mobs out of range of PSW and the AoE's and you will be slowing us down. Yes we are all experienced enough to switch tactics and kill the scattered mobs but you will be judged the noob for using the PBAoE KB when it wasn't needed.
Forcing people to adjust to a poor playstyle is why nearly everyone hates KB and gives PB's a bad rep.
As for the [ QUOTE ]
handle the chaos and to use it in their own favor
[/ QUOTE ] there is pretty much no such thing with radial KB. The best you can do is adapt and cope with is. Having all the mobs in one place is ALWAYS better than scattering them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait... I didn't say any of that!
I never admit that I sound arrogant, it's more fun getting it across though my tone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think that was for me, carnie dear
And ive never had any complaints about my "poor" playstyle. Guess the teams Im in (including members of the handprints) are to busy counting the scattered dead mobs than cry about them being scattered... -
We have derailed this thread bad enough.. so back to the OPs question.
Unfortunately my build is a human/dwarf PB (not fond of the squid form, tho my WS is 3-form) so I wouldnt be of much help there. I "think" you could save power picks by avoiding stamina and slot end mods in nova and dwarf to make up for it. Youll rarely be in human form anyway.
But I have a hard time figuring out how useful such a build would be, as you can only put those power picks you just saved back into the human form, which will be weakend by the lower amount of enhancement slots available.
I dont know how that math works out for those who runs with 3 form PBs, so that would be up to them to answer. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
At least with Nova form blasts you can make the knockback useful by floating above them and turning it into knockdown.
[/ QUOTE ]Human Form peacebringers can (and, in my grumpy elitist opinion, should!) do this with Combat Flight, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
edited for.. like.. you know.. 'shades dont get combat flight.. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you use that KB on a side mob or avoid the main cluster then thats fine, but you seem to be claiming that using it in the middle of a mob isn't a bad thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
in the middle, thats where the tank/brute hangs out, so naturally i flare from a slightly "off" position.
indoors where the mobs becomes nice wall ornaments, positioning is less of an issue and being more center will not mess it up to bad. -
[ QUOTE ]
KB is great mitigation when solo, but on any half good team it just tends to slow things down.
Just be careful the first time you solar flare around a footstomping brute and knock everything out of his footstomp range
[/ QUOTE ]

Gale is a completely different animal however and anyone using it after level 10 should not only be kicked but taken out and shot.
But the colonel is right, this has taken a turn into a "KB" "anti KB" debate. -
[ QUOTE ]
KB is mitigation with overall team damage output decrease because radial KB ruins AoEs. And, well, if that damage was meant to impress me... I have a Warshade.
[/ QUOTE ]Wasnt meant to impress you, just wanted to add some statistical evidence as to why after a Solar flare, there might be no NEED for those AoEs. Or do you consider a 200 damage plus a "weak" AoE?
For the Dwarf form, Its Flare is its most useful tool for gathering aggro in bigger mobs while waiting for Antagonize to cycle.
[ QUOTE ]
But, well, I'm known to be a vehement anti-knockback nazi anyway, so it might just be me. I'd just prefer the PB did something else other than scatter the spawn for some 200 damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
YOu make it sound like a bad thing. That spawn will have its defense debuffed, unable to do any damage for several seconds, and assuming the tank has any aggro creating tools like an aura or have used taunt, will run straight back towards the tank as theyre still aggroed to him.
to say "DO something better" just shows ignorance as Solar Flare IS one of the better attacks. The alternatives (for my build) are the two ranged attacks it shares with the Nova. One of which does KB as well, and less damage, the other a pathetic cone attack. -
Any situation that hasnt been handled within the time limit of 3 minutes of Godmode, is very likely a situation that wouldve left you dead within the first minute (as well as the team) anyway.
The crash can be managed with a bit of training and a team thats on its toes. Once I crashed Twice in one fight against the same AV and still got out of harms way both times. And this was before the blinking icon.
Another tactical aspect of US is that you will after the 40s possibly run into malta sappers and carnies.
Its no fun suddenly getting mezzed when Unyielding drops because the endurance bar is drained to zero.
With US you will at least get a fighting chance to salvage the situation. -

Solar Flare
[/ QUOTE ]Ewwwwww
[/ QUOTE ]
My (slotted) solar flare does 114pt of energy damage PBAoE, with the about 100% minimum damage buff i get from a combination of Assault + Cosmic balance im up in over 200pts to everything around me.
A team with members that can damage buff im up in 200% buff, and sometimes im even running around at my cap at 300%.
What you think of as "knockback to lts and bosses" im thinking of "killing of minions" pretty damn quick.
The KB is 4-5 seconds damage mitigation where the survivors cant hurt the members of the team.
And then we can start discussing the defense debuff.. -
We did complete it anyway, and some of us figured you'd fallen asleep.
I know some people think that the "valley of lag" is boring. But I couldnt imagine its THAT boring -
tried again today, with no troubles.
could be a router malfunction on my side. But I am raising a flag for the coders that the vendors are very weak regarding this issue. -
crashes as i try to use the merit vendor.
tried different vendors (steel and atlas) and two different toons. Trying to access the vendor causes client crash and drops me to desktop and when i try to restart the client it takes time to verify files. -

Good work Dr Destiny. But seeing all these great portraits I am missing one thing.
I want to know more about who they are. Would be great if people could put a bio up there.

Officer Cuffz
While some people decides to use their powers to fight crime, others have already decided to fight crime even before receiving any powers. Officer Cuffz is such a woman. A ordinary Police officer patrolling the streets of Paragon city before the Rikti invasion.
"Cuffz" isnt her real name, but became a nickname due to a crayon drawing made by a 7 year old girl after Cuffz and her partner had taken her father, who had beaten up his wife and children while drunk, into custody. The drawing was of Cuffz sitting on top of the father handcuffing him and had the words "officer (hand)cuffs my father" written as to explain what was going on. But the girl had reversed the "S" in cuffs and as there was a large space between "cuffs" and "my" it read as "officer Cuffz" and "my father" the precinct immediately gave the slightly embarrased officer the callsign "Cuffz".
The policewoman later recieved her powers after a failed arrest that left her partner dead and herself hospitalized. A hero of Paragon city, who later was to die in the rikti invasion, surgically inserted small force field emitters to help stabilize and keep her shattered bones and organs in place while they healed.
But as the hero got killed in the invasion the small emitters were never removed. As the police officer was able to step out of bed, she discovered that she now was able to project a energy field able to absorb and deflect punches, knives, bullets and (in time) even more powerful attacks, but also that the energy field could be use offensively, increasing the power of her kicks and punches.
As soon as she could leave the hospital, she returned to her precinct. The Rikti had left a path of destruction in its wake, and it was time for some new heroes and heroines, to pick up where the old heroes had left off. "Cuffz" was to be one of them. Showing that to "serve and protect" is not just hollow words. -
Played my PB for the first time yesterday after the I13 changes on a ITF.
after 5 minutes in youre starting to hear stuff like "bad PB, I'm the tank" "I wish I was in Badges clothes right now.." and "I better start leveling my PB..."
people complain about scrapper lock.. I get PB lock..
