um, Ignore the request to turn off Dispersion Bubble and don't bubble that peep. It's their HP and debt. If it becomes detrimental to the team, then the leader should say something. But honestly, I have never heard of this before. Most informed players are glad for any buffs. And FF buffs are the least invasive of any of the buffs. Sonic and Thermal can add lag to older systems with less than optimal specs and some peeps just cannot handle SB (either personally or their comp). IMO, this may be a AE baby, i.e. inexperienced new player.
(edit: forgot to mention cold shields)
Heh. I made sure not to bubble him after that, but I wasn't about to turn Dispersion Bubble off. I guess that appeased him enough, as I didn't hear anything more about it for the remainder of the mission.

Some people really need to get over their costume-vanity. It's not just "their HP and debt", if they're contributing to the rest of the team. Not accepting a powerful buff means they're not able to contribute as much in combat. A buff is a buff. Take it. If it looks bad, complain to the devs, not the other characters. Teaming with other people is not a fashion show... everyone needs to make an effort to actually win.
I team with the Repeat Offenders.
I have this issue with cold and dark buffs, but I never ask for them to not be given to me. Though I tend to make a remark about how I think they're ugly, but want them anyway.
I've seen the bubble complaints, but not for a few years. (Someone with a low-end machine in about 2005 had graphics problems.)

"OK, but don't use your armors, they clash with my character's look when you're on the same screen. And quit using that big attack, it just doesn't go with my theme. Stick with brawl, please."
Or whatever else is AT appropriate.
The closest I've had to this was someone wanting to duel one of my Stalkers - but telling me not to use Hide. They wouldn't turn off their armor in return. I think they finally got the point. (Or rather, the fist. And kick. And...)
The only time I've had serious complaints about bubbles was with the old Sonic graphics - and that wasn't aesthetics, that was "they make me physically ill."
I had this very thing happen once in 4 years. I got a please don't bubble me from one of the players on the team. I said, "May I ask why you don't want to be bubbled?"
He said, "Bubbles are all hype, they don't really do anything."
(I found out later that he'd come from an MMO where defense was practically worthless.)
He spent the next 4 missions being vengence bait (he was a Leroy Blaster) and complaining all the while that the team leader should try to get a "real" defender.
About 2 missions farther along the team leader picked up an Empath and the guy said.
"Thank you lord. A real defender finally!"
He continued to face plant because the Empath couldn't keep pace with his death wish.
The team leader finally asked me in tells "You want me to kick the idiot?"
I said, "Nope, I can handle it."
I pulled the "oops I forgot you didn't want to be bubbled" trick and for the next 4 minutes he forgot to die.
So I kept forgetting for the rest of that mission and he finally shut up and didn't ask not to be bubbled again.
When he left the team the next mission he said to the Empath. "Thanks for the heals! You were awesome! It just took you a while to get into your stride with this team."
It's been 3 years since that mission. Hopefully he's left the game or l2p'd by now.

I do this on both sides, unless actually given a good reason (lag oe the like, not costumes). I always accept buffs and when people ask if they want X buff, I tell them that there's yet to be a buff that I didn't like, which still holds true. On the flip side of this, anyone asking for a buff gets forgotten a few times going through the list.
In short, ask not to be buffed (which is rare), you generally won't be unless you're screaming at me about it. Ask to be buffed, and I'll hit you in 2 rounds of it then start picking you back up, but I've been known to be nice about it if you are as well (Like accidentally forgetting about it). Also, I'll gladly take every buff you'll give me, but I'm not going to ask for it since I also believe heavily in the treat others as you wish to be treated.
As far as my Thermal shields go, anyone complaining about it for RP reasons can jump off a bridge. He's an escaped hologram from the AE building, which means they are quasi-real fires at best.

You would have to be crazy not to want every mother-loving buff out there on your toon. Unfortunately, some crazy people do play this game.
So, let me get this straight, you *don't* want to be an invincible tank mage? Really? Do you use inspirations? Do you slot and enhance your powers? *sigh*
I don't buy the GFX card excuses either. What exactly do they do when they fight a villain type that is heavy in particles, like rad blasting foes, or fire? If your box can't play the game (and this game is like, what, 5 years old now?) you need to upgrade, NOT become more or less dead weight on the team.
And tankers in caves who don't want SB.. L2P. There. I said it!
I like being 'bubbled' during mishes and not that much when I am hanging out at WW, but either way I would not say anything if I did get 'bubbled'. The dipsersion bubble is not that intrusive either. On the other hand the Cold and Fire shields are just out-right annoying and they slow my system down significantly; not the defender/trollers fault, it is the obtrusive animation. I hate the way Ice Armor looks on my toons and I have asked not to receive this buff sometimes during mishes and definetly when not on a mish or street sweeping.
I feel that the defender/troller is trying to be helpful by 'buffing' random toons, but these (Ice/Fire) buffs are just too damn annoying for me. I hope that the animations are reduced to something less obtrusive in later issues.
Back to the original topic... I think 'bubbles' are the least obtrussive of all the buffs; I bubble team mates and do not bubble them if they request not to be (hasn't happened yet, but if it does...) and I do not bubble random toons.
One solution to this: make all buffs require the recipient to 'accept' or 'reject' the buff the same way you can accept or reject being teleporting and receiving the new Tarot Pack buff via the options menu. This would eliminate the need for toons to request that they not be buffed and toons would not have to keep track of which team mates do not want to be buffed on teams of more then 3-4 members.
Just an idea.

Paragons Banshee - Level 50 Dark/Sonic Defender - Liberty
Crimson-Knight - Level 50 Energy/Energy Blaster - Liberty
Personally, I love all the buff animations. Even fire/cold.
Having to accept a buff is a horrid idea. I lost count of how many times I charged into battle with my blapper after growing tired of waiting for the tank. If I had to accept a buff, instead of getting it right when the troller/defender send it out, I would have died a whole lot more than I have.

I agree.
But we will probably see more of this after I16,
when some people choose ugly colors for their powers.
Some people are gonna hate it if you give them bright pink Ice Armor, or such.

Okay, I really, really, REALLY hate the Cold armor, and have since it was a redside-only thing. Whether I ask for it not to be put on my character is situational, though. If the team is actually being challenged (or at least my character in particular is), then I grit my teeth and say "lay it on me." The buff might well make the difference between victory and waking up in the hospital.
If the missions are pushovers, I'll ask not to be buffed with anything but Frostwork. As an RP'er, how much I'm able to get "into" the character matters to me, and the Cold armors just ruin immersion.
The Fire armors are not my faves, either, but I can't recall ever asking not to have them.
I'll never turn down a Bubble, though!
"And in this moment, I will not run.
It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."
Yeah, if anyone ever asks me not to get buffed, I'll ask them whether or not they know exactly what it is the buff does for them. If they say they do, I will ask again, just to make sure. Then I'll go from component to component to really make sure they know what it's doing for them.
Then, depending on how well the team's doing, I'll accept or deny their request. I'm more lax with Speed Boost because some people just aren't used to controlling their characters with it, and a tense environment is not a good environment to get used to it in.
Bubbles, though? Why on Earth would anyone not want bubbles?
Hey, do you want to be nigh-invincible?
No.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Whenever someone specifically asks to not receive a buff, I make it a point to keep that buff on them all the time.
You want to RP your costume? don't team with people you don't know. No one is going to be admiring your costume but yourself during combat anyway.
Your system can't handle it? don't team period or adjust your graphic settings to make it bearable or here is an idea upgrade you memory or graphics card to something that isn't 5 or 6 years old.
Ignorant of it's benefits? Thank you for proving that you need the buff to even hope to function on the team.

I'd honour team member requests not to buff them, although I'd make sure they knew what it did for them.
I'd consider team member requests to not use certain powers at all, although that would be severely scrutinized.

It makes me cry when another player asks me not to speed boost them because "i kep runnin into walls lol".
To ask to not be bubbled is just beyond me. But then, maybe I'm not as experienced as some of these other players so clearly are.

Thank you for spending the money I don't have for me. Obviously you know better than I do what to do with it. Try playing this game on a marginal system sometime and see what the rest of us have to deal with, even on low graphics settings.

This is what it means to be a tank!
My vid card got old and bad a few years back and I had to switch to lower settings to play at all for a week. not a fun week.
If I had to play like that all the time I would rather not play.
If in basic gameplay I cannot accept buffs and fully contribute to my teams I would rather not play.
Memory is cheap, a decent card is pretty cheap. make it work. or play something that your computer can support... like minesweeper...
So, I've been playing my new Force Field / Dark Blast Defender for a little over a month now, and I ran into this the other day.
"Don't bubble me, please. And turn off your big bubble. I don't like the way they look on my toon. Nothing against you personally."
Now, I've been playing the game off and on for four years. I've heard of people asking not to be speed boosted, and asking Thermals not to buff them. This is the first time I can ever recall someone asking not to be bubbled, and for Dispersion Bubble to be turned off. WTF?
