"Don't Bubble Me"

I try to be nice about that sort of thing, but I don't have costumized keybinds designed for buffing, and most of the suggested binds on the forums don't work for me because I use my number pad for navigation (I'm left handed, so I use the mouse in my left hand and the number pad and directional buttons for moving, jumping, flying, Follow, Autorun, and toggling through targets through a system that is much simpler than it sounds), and can't assign numbers 1-8 on the pad to target team members.

So yeah. Sometimes I forget and buff the wrong person. If they whine once, I'll let it slide and apologize. Twice, and I buff them on every cycle on purpose until they either quit the team or stop crying.

I think said poster was referring to Shadow Fall

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Shadow Fall doesn't bother me as much because it's not as obscuring as Cold Domination and not bad enough to prevent me from rolling a Dark if I was ever hit by the urge. Cold Dom however... yeesh. It looks fun, but I don't want to obliterate everyone's costumes. If the ice shields were less overbearing, I'd probably roll one up pretty quickly. I also have that same issue with Ice Armor and Stone Armor (mainly Granite). Firery Aura and Thermal get a free pass because I actually think their shields/armors look awesome.

Your system can't handle it? don't team period or adjust your graphic settings to make it bearable or here is an idea upgrade you memory or graphics card to something that isn't 5 or 6 years old.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you for spending the money I don't have for me. Obviously you know better than I do what to do with it. Try playing this game on a marginal system sometime and see what the rest of us have to deal with, even on low graphics settings.

[/ QUOTE ]

While I agree that the previous posters tone was a little peevish I must say this. I do have a computer that from time to time I do have to play on with lower graphic settings and even still I have this to say. Buff Meh :P I mean, I really have set the graphics as low as I can and even with buffs the game plays just fine. Although it does make me appreciate my main machine more

Whenever someone specifically asks to not receive a buff, I make it a point to keep that buff on them all the time.

You want to RP your costume? don't team with people you don't know. No one is going to be admiring your costume but yourself during combat anyway.

Ignorant of it's benefits? Thank you for proving that you need the buff to even hope to function on the team.

[/ QUOTE ]

See, as a Sonic Res Defender, I also enjoy buffing people who do not want the buff. Mainly cause I get to scream at them while buffing them.

YOU WILL TAKE THIS (buff) AND YOU WILL LIKE IT!

This seems unnecessarily malicious, kind of like you take pleasure in annoying teammates?

Do you check teammate stats before buffing? Maybe a well-slotted Super Reflexes Scrapper really doesnt benefit from the Cold Shields significantly. Even a IO SR scrapper with Combat Jumping will get close to the cap with just Arctic Fog.

You're very disparaging about other players wanting to look the way they look in-game, yet you're quite into the way your own characters look judging by the links in your signature.

Its been brought up in about 4 threads on the front page of these forums today how Cold Shields have over-obtrusive graphics. Would you be in favour of toning them down?

Dark Defenders, Controllers, and even some Blasters rely heavily on proper positioning to do their job with maximum efficiency. Speed Boost can _really_ screw with that.

And Speed Boost isn't good for ANYONE on that multi-tiered cave map *shudders*. A slightly faster refresh (on a generally already full attack chain by level 16 anyway) isn't going to help if you keep falling 6 stories below your target.

I am Mr._Grumpums, and I approve this message. SOME consideration towards other players is required, especially when buffing someone may cause them to get into hot water, like SB in caves. Not everyone has the experience from back when travel powers were un-inhibited to call on. Heck, there are a lot of players who haven't even tried Siphon speed to know what it's like to zip around while blasting, the last remnant of a more glorious age.

Buffs are made to make players perform better. If a player can't handle it due to their PC or their playing style, I'm fine with skipping them. I'll even be considerate to the people who whine for cosmetic reasons. I was raised to treat people with respect.

It's rudeness I don't tolerate. If someone acts like a boorish oaf repeatedly, then I can only take it so far before deliberately adding them to my buff list.

Def sets still receive the secondary resistance benefits. Also I think ice shields are fine the way they are and I love having them on any of my characters when on teams.

LOL @ the sig comment. There is a significant difference between caring about appearances in a mission and caring about appearances while offline.

Force Field bubbles apply a moderate damage DoT to your character. I heard they also reset your chatbinds, Generic your character, and delete your account. I seen it happen.

I've had people ask me not to bubble them before. In those cases, though, it was a case of the swirling bubble graphic making them a bit motion sick. I would absolutely consider buffing someone who's requested not to be for a reason like that on purpose to be beyond malicious.

If someone asks nicely not to be buffed, I don't buff them. It's certainly a lot better than being pestered about it. Heh, I even ask if buffs are ok when on my Thermal, because I know they can be problematic.

The current buffs aren't as bad as old Sonic Res, but they're certainly not all easy on everyone's eyes...

Tell them to get a helmet...

Honestly if your character runs into a wall, it will not hurt you or your toon...

I've encountered one person with a legitimate reason not to get sb'd. He had a physical handicap that made a speed boosted toon too hard for him to control. He was a very skilled player when not sb'd though, and when I accidently sb'd him he was cool about it "I can live with 120 seconds of running into things" he said...

Refusing to be bubbled... They must've been living in a bubble or something...

Some people really need to get over their costume-vanity. It's not just "their HP and debt", if they're contributing to the rest of the team. Not accepting a powerful buff means they're not able to contribute as much in combat. A buff is a buff. Take it. If it looks bad, complain to the devs, not the other characters. Teaming with other people is not a fashion show... everyone needs to make an effort to actually win.

[/ QUOTE ]

While in general I'll agree with this, some buffs I will agree should be acceptable to turn down. Speed Boost is a prime one. The buff is nice, don't get me wrong. It's the +run speed that I hate. That alone can at times out weigh the recharge and recovery buffs.

My vid card got old and bad a few years back and I had to switch to lower settings to play at all for a week. not a fun week.

If I had to play like that all the time I would rather not play.

If in basic gameplay I cannot accept buffs and fully contribute to my teams I would rather not play.

Memory is cheap, a decent card is pretty cheap. make it work. or play something that your computer can support... like minesweeper...

[/ QUOTE ]

A decent card is cheep? By who's standard of cheep? My monthly income is about $685 for instance. Rent costs 192 a month, phone/net is 70 a month on average, food is about 150 a month usually. Right now though I've had to cut various things since I'm paying as much for my new tower (old pc tower died horribly) each month as I am paying for rent.

Entertainment right now takes about $40 of my $50 dollar disposable income per month. So, how do you think I'm gonna be able to afford a couple hundred for a better graphics card then I have? I have one I'm happy with, the radion x1600. By your definitions I'm guessing that's old, out dated, and in need of replacement. So, explain to me where I'm going to find the money for that 'cheep' graphics card you mentioned,

Don't assume everyone has two to three hundred dollars laying around they can spend on a graphics card.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, when playing Madam Enigma I'm use to moving fast. I have a normal in-mission travel speed of around 34 mph, and a max travel speed of 73 mph with elude. So super speed I can handle. Speed boost in missions though, I'd rather not have to worry bout running into cave walls.

With Madam Enigma she really doens't get any significant benefit from SB. +Recover? Don't need it, only run out of endurance if elude crashes. +Recharge? Again don't need it. Claw/sr and I have all the attacks. +Speed? I really don't need that.

Oh other characters it depends. My dark/dark scrapper loves SB since it lets me stop worrying bout endurance. My ta/a is mildly annoyed by it but accepts the buff. Other characters? Not always wanted due to the +speed fouling up fine control. If I'm trying to leverage cone attacks, I don't need speedboost wrecking my ability to maneuver.

a x1600 card is completely fine for running this game, so if you're having problems running it either lower the graphics some more, upgrade your memory, or clean up whatever is hogging all your ram in the background.

I used to have to ask not to be bubbled because my graphics card turned the bubbles inward and made it look like my char was getting impaled by lots of little light blue spears.

Thankfully I saved up and got a much better laptop to play on.

Personally I love SB on all of my characters. Some get more mileage out of it than others, but they all benefit, whether it's to ease up endurance woes, bring back long recharge powers (e.g. nukes, non-persistent pets, etc), or just to fire their heaviest attacks more often in the chain.

My Kins pretty much always have at least one application of Siphon Speed in effect during a mission, with the aim to double stack it (occasionally triple stacked for short durations). So their in-mission speed tends to be between 55mph and just over 90mph. I've played them both quite a lot (one was my 2nd character in the game, while the other was my first 50 villain) so I'm used to maneuvering at those speeds (even for positioning for cones - the villain is a Dark/Kin Corruptor) and running other characters under SB almost feels slow to me when I've been playing the Kins recently.

I admit I do bump off the walls a bit when moving through the really narrow cave tunnels, but it doesn't annoy me and overall doesn't slow me down vs not being boosted (lose a bit of time when I hit the wall, make it back up when I move through the rest of it faster).

So yeah, for me personally, the benefits always outweigh the downsides. I'd have it on all my characters all the time if I could.
