"Don't Bubble Me"
I personally dont like the ice shields from cold dom but thats just me. Bubbles ive never had a problem with them. If the guy doesn't want bubbles then dont give him any but for him to tell you to turn off a power that helps you...he needs to learn how to play nice with others. And tell him to stick it.

One of my toons doesn't accept buffs from magic or psi based toons, but that is for concept reasons & I accept my toon dropping due to it. He is a Kat/WP so it isn't like buffs are essential to his survival.

Can I ask, why not just go like this.
"No." ((YES!))
Was on an RP TF, had a Plant/Kin, who was passing out herbal energy drinks (Speed Boost). My main said "No thanks." I then said ((YES!!! OF COURSE!!!)) You can say no, and still get the buff.
Really, on a TF like the ITF, would you really turn down a buff that could keep the TF from failing?

Assorted "I'll buff who I want, and buff 'em extra hard if they ask me not to" types... I'd like to take preemptive measures to avoid encountering people like you in game. My global is @Eisenzahn, please /gignore it.

And repeat for @luckysamurai. I don't want to group with jerks, no matter how awesome sauce you think your toon is. I'd rather have a good time dying than a bad time winning.
And for the record, I've often asked not to be bubbled. My computer runs it just fine, but the graphic makes me queasy. Yes, on regular old FF bubbles. I have no problem dying and always carry some awakens (unless I'm giving them out mid-mission to others). I have a PB that I love but I just have to quit playing her occasionally because her shield makes me sick to look at after awhile. Also, the sound of the bubble bothers me immensely.. right up there with sewer splashing or robot footsteps. Still don't know what sound to replace to disable that horrid activation sound.
Curiously enough, neither sonic nor thermal have ever bothered me, and those are the ones I've only heard others complain of. Actually I love thermal's warm glow

I think what LuckySamurai meant was that he/she doesn't know what the name of the Peacebringer shield sound file is, and thus can't disable it.

I still stand by my suggestion to use the NBC chimes for it, though.

LOL that's cute how a Plant/Kin was RP it as passing out energy drinks. But I mean was the Plant/Kin throwing the drinks in their faces cause SB animation is like a slap to the face and ID is a punch to the gut. Kinda hard to say you're passing out drinks with that animation. Unless of course, you're like Hawaiian Punch character, Punchy..."How about a nice Speed Boost?"....KAPOW!!

There's a right and wrong time for tornado. I'm not sure what the right times are, but it's always the wrong time for tornado.

The right time to use Tornado is when the PB knocks every single enemy off your ice slick with his opening attack for every spawn.

You would have to be crazy not to want every mother-loving buff out there on your toon. Unfortunately, some crazy people do play this game.
So, let me get this straight, you *don't* want to be an invincible tank mage? Really? Do you use inspirations? Do you slot and enhance your powers? *sigh*
[/ QUOTE ]
While i have nothing against bubbles, I must say that I have yet to see bubbles - or indeed any such shield - turn myself or anyone else into an "invincible tank mage." Shields are grace-notes. They *don't* make you invincible.
Inspirations and enhancements are not castable effects, and therefore not germane to the conversation.
As for the rest of you "heeheehee Imma buffing you EXTRA HARD if you ask me nicely not to, it rules to be me!! LAWLZ I am da LAW!!," well.... you people just keep on doing what you do. People like you are going to end up getting right-click-off encoded into the game, and your tears, they will be so delicious when it goes down. Have a nice day!

My bubbler was able to get someone as close to it as possible (especially for a squishy). With Dispersion Bubble, both shields and Maneuvers, with her on the team you'd get:
41.5% defense vs. melee, ranged, AoE
41.5% defense S/L/NRG/NegNRG/Fire/Cold
19.2% defense vs. anything else (Psi/Toxic)
40% Toxic Resistance
86.5% resistance to EndDrain
Mag 8.65 protection vs. Hold, Immob, and Stun. Sleep and KB folks will have to take care of themselves, however.. assuming they get hit at all
This was for everyone.
Seriously... if that won't turn a blaster into a tank mage, I don't know what would. It can also make sure there are few, if any, cascading defense failures for all those SD/SR/Ice melees.
Maybe you haven't grouped with the right defenders. Or maybe, you just didn't realize their contribution due to lack of green floaty numbers. *shrug* You play a lot of defenders according to your sig, I'm a little surprised you haven't recognized the value in shields.

That's why we have 6 other powers that allow you to keep the mobs from doing ANYTHING for the 5% of the time that the shields might fail.
The main mistake that most FFers make when playing the set is not learning how to use their toolbelt to its proper capacity.
That mistake is propogated by those like Fulmens who say that the shields are "good enough". Well in my opinion, if the shields are "good enough" then you're not pushing your team hard enough.
Pushing your team to the limits with a purely defensive set can be a very, well, odd experience.
I'll never forget this one time on my first Sonic Defender, we had another Sonic Defender and someone with a healing aura (Rad, Thermal or Empath). We were fighting Freakshow that were +5 to me. Each fight took absolutely ages since no-one had any +To Hit, but we were all completely invincible due to capped Resistance and our slow health leaks from +5 Tank Swipers etc. being healed back by the normally puny aura power.
I think that radio mission took more than half an hour.
The whole team was in this kind of silent awe of ourselves, but I'm not exactly sure if we were having fun. Well, it was good for one mission but we dropped difficulty after that because you wouldnt want to do it all night.
This thread makes me think of George Harrison.
"Since effects are on
I want no one
to buff up me
It's not the same
the light's to blame
It's plain to see
So go away and leave me alone
Don't bubble me
I can't believe
they won't just leave
me on my own
It's just not right
where every fight
Those lights are on
I've got no time for you right now
Don't bubble me"

Shields are nice. The be-all end-all of everything.... not so much. I appreciate ones that keep everyone from being stunned/mezzed ad infinitum during Ship Raids; most of the rest, I find nice but pretty forgettable.
Unless its a really horrible shield like the ice ones, which I want off me ASAP. Shields have their uses; i do not fall down and worship at the mere idea of 'em though.

As worthless as using RI and EF on a mob in the center of an immob'd spawn, I'd say.
As far as the OP goes, if someone doesn't want bubs on their toon for costume vanity reasons, I see no need to dish them out anyway. I would flat out refuse to turn off Dispersion Bubble, because that affects the whole team, but if the someone doesn't want the benefit that bubbles give purely out of vanity reasons, let them suffer the consequences.

Any one power in the game outside Stamina is forgettable :P
Shields are a helpful tool in the defender playbook. Like any other power. Use them and prosper, I say. They are certainly not an I Win button, but really, with the exception of "perhaps" Fulcrum Shift, what else is? I can't think of anything on my dark MMs and Defenders that makes a team godlike either.
TBH, when I fill out a team, any defender really fits the bill. They all go about it differently, but a well-played TA, Bubbler, Dark, Kin or whatever, will give the same results - a prospering, safer team. Each plays to their own strengths.
Oh, and for the record, I don't bubble anyone who wishes otherwise, its their $15.00 and debt badge.

Exactly. That is to say nearly the exact opposite of worthless.
i've always played that if someone doesn't want a buff i'll do my best to skip them. After all, my bubbler has vengeance and rarely gets to use it.
(B_I has posted before about how they won't use Darkest Night because it's not a very useful power that draws aggro. B_I stood firm on that even after learning it was an AoE debuff. i'd guess that B_I finds it difficult to value anything that doesn't generate visible numbers on screen. *shrug*)

Why wouldn't you use it, and it's cousins Burn and Waterspout, vs AVs? They don't run from it (well most don't, I haven't tried it on every AV) and it does great damage along with a defense debuff (and stun, though that's probably not relevant vs AVs unless you've got other stunners stacking while PToD are down).
[/ QUOTE ]
Because when that AV happens to be Infernal, it ends up being a horrible, horrible idea.
