Hmm, these are all great ideas... I hadn't really thought about DP as a set, and the additionally buffing to my buddies survivability from DP debuffs could be a good help.
Dark would certainly do the same thing.
Sonic will be the pure damage side of things.
Hmm, I have have to test these options, see which works best...is there any straight KB in DP even with Ammo Swap? -
As a quick note about your question with Flamethrower, I would never drop that power. It is such a great cone for damage, I consider it probably one of the top powers in the set.
Also, I've never liked single target disorients. Specially at such a log mag (mag 3 I believe) bosses will still be kicking. -
Hey boards!
I'm going to embark on a duo with a friend's dark/elec tank, and I am at a loss as far as what to pair with him to make him tougher, but still kick out some serious damage.
My plan is to be /rad, but I have no idea which primary to go with.
I want to be strong on the AoE end of things, but still able to focus in on AVs when we duo them.
That being said, my current feelings are:
Sonic (ST centered with some AoE)
AR (awesome cones)
Archery (several AoEs, but the KB in the one arrow is a concern)
Rad (though I generally shy away from matched pairings)
Ice (ST focus but good Rains)
Fire (great AoE and ST, but I tend to get bored of fire)
So, really I'm all over, I just need someone out there to vocalize why I should be all about a specific set over the others.
If the name of my character will help you pick a better fit, because it could, I will be "Self-made Loner"
Thanks everyone! -
I've heard the opposite, that defense in granite is largely pointless due to the massive resist. 70% to all save psi is tough, considering a base 20% def is I remember correctly.
But, I wasn't real set on slotting anyway :P, just put them there to fill space, was more curious about power choices.
Thanks! -
As far as freezing touch goes, I can't say I see it getting the same treatment, since it already has a pretty great damage part to it. To me it was always seemed like a damaging move with a nice hold along for the ride.
-
So, here's my build, no enhancers, because I'm not sure what sets I'm rolling with, and actually slotting may change here and there.

Ok, so my question comes in at level 24, 26, and 30. As it stands above, I get Clobber, then Minerals, then Build Up. Since this char is mostly duo'd with a kin/dp defender, would it be better for me to pick up Build up at 26? or get Pulverize instead, so I can have more attacks when Granite slows the crap out of my attacks? Should I put off Minerals to 30, to free up some more slots mid range, to load up Clobber and some other less slotted stuff?
Also, am I ridiculous for not taking Stone Skin? I'm lvl 22 now, and sometimes I miss it, and realize that even that 15% res could have helped me, but I don't know that the instances are common enough to have the power. And since granite is only 10 levels away, I feel like I could make it, and the instances will all but disappear, because Granite is...you know... Granite.
Anyway, just a couple questions I put out here, and if anyone has any suggestions or pointers, it's been ages since I've played up a stone tank, my last being stone/ice...which was a bore, but nigh unkillable...in any scenario.
Thanks! -
As I was playing my warshade, as opposed to some of my other chars, I was looking at the colors and why they couldn't be customized.
My only conclusion was this.
Most WS powers seem to be made up of 3 colors, magenta, purple, and dark blue (and red of it's the disorient toggle). Since all of the char creation divides in to 2 colors, we'd have to see a third color option pop up, and I'm not sure they want to deal with that. Seems kinda lazy, but I have no knowledge of the interworkings of computers and programming for this game, so that could be a miserable thing for them.
Can't say for PBs, never played one. -
So you're thinking I can safely avoid Stone? That's good news
I was leaning at the moment, fire/elec, the only problem being lack of KB, which I would have to scrounge up some money for some IOs or run Acro.
I know nothing about the elec secondary however, so, if anyone can throw 2 cents in on that, I'd be most appreciative! -
As the title says, I'm about to start a duo with my friend who will be playing a blaster.
My first consideration was play a support class to keep him alive, but I figured the best possible idea was to simply soak damage for him, so he stays alive, and I take all the beatings. So that being said, I'm not sure what I should build to stay alive, but keep things looking at me, and only me.
I've pretty much exhausted the primaries save for willpower *which I wont play as a tank*. So I'm open to any other primary. Secondary, it seems like a more controllery one could be or more use, or maybe AoE centric?
All suggestions are welcome, but it should be noted I'd really rather not play Willpower nor Dual blades.
Also, if it helps. I have no information as to what specifically my friend will be playing as a blaster, but I'd venture a guess at either Fire, AR, or Energy. Secondary could be anything.
Thanks!

As far as not getting replies, Local man is right, it's because Ice is usually overlooked.
Also, it seems you're building for set bonuses, which is your choice, but coming from my level 50 ice/sonic controller's experience, you're going to miss Ice Slick, it's an amazing power that takes foes completely out of the fight for awhile, making the mass defense you've built up less necessary.
I'd also take Shiver, it's such a strong debuff.
I can't offer much help on set bonuses. As those are mostly the choice of the creator of the character. Just don't overlook the awesomeness Ice has for the sake of a couple bonuses here and there! -
Nice. Looks like I'll be going with GDF! And possibly switching to flash over glue. Many thanks everyone!
-
Many thanks! I wasn't sure about the APP either, but Hibernate would be an awesome addition to this character.
-
I've got my grav/ta build laid out, but I can't figure out what to select at level 30. I am currently trying to decide between propel, gdf, and maybe Flash Arrow?
I have no clue. None at all.

So, that's my build. Help please! -
I'd stay away from FF for soloing, as everyone has said before me, there are better sets for soloing, though FF and grav do seem to go together well.
-
I'd say elec. Even when comparing my elec/em at 36, to my 50 shield/dm.
Shield is softcapped for me, and I do love shield charge, but I just don't feel very robust without a strong heal to back me up (siphon life from dark is ok, but nothing compared to tank shield heals).
Electric makes me feel like a real tanker, or at least how I picture tanks. Taking damage, and slowly but surely being worn down if the fight drags on, then hitting the big heal/+reg/end discount and the cycle begins again. Great resists to everything but toxic, and toxic is rare enough that it makes no difference. No +def slotted at all in IOs, and I can reliably solo +1 x8. Elec just feels more complete to me than shield does.
Just my 2 cents -
QR
you're FF primary, that's not any damage assistance at all. That would be why you couldn't do a thing against the guy.
Say, traps? That'd tear up an EB. My traps/dark defender can solo game EBs, but that's with Insps -
I want a scrapper. But I have no idea which sets suit my ideas the best.
My idea is simple, I want a scrapper, that fills in a pocket tank if the tank falls, or can't handle extra aggro.
I really don't know where to go with this, primary is tough, secondary I was thinking probably Invul, due to the strong taunt aura I would get eventually, but I'm open to any better ideas, since I've only ever made one scrapper...and it got to a whopping level 2, no doubt you're impressed.
Thanks in advance! -
I think the max is 16 for attacks like that...and as far as I know there is no way to increase that aspect of an attack.
-
Huh, I guess that's a good argue for Fire...that whole, lighting OSA :P
I guess I just don't worry about it, mostly my team lights it for me. My experience is from my Mind/TA/Stone...that build is glorious. -
traps/elec I imagine...I need another /elec.
-
I'm inclined to agree with going invul. Shield is awesome, don't get me wrong. But if you're planning on staying in teams all the time, invul will be much more reliable for a "main tank" role.
-
-
Oh, and I forgot...
Fire Epic?? I know, AoE fire ball, but I sure couldn't go any other route than Earth Epic! Seismic Smash! -
So, you want to cram Flash Arrow in to a good looking build
Glue Arrow is really the only way to do that, so you're probably spot on there. Quicksand provides the same slow, with an additional -def component, so it is clearly superior.
That being said. I'd never give up Glue Arrow unless someone beat me up and took it from me.
I think the slows in quicksand and glue will make up for not having that last 5% ranged def...I'd keep your build as it and love your control heavy character that kills as fast as a steamroller moves.
Good luck -
I would love to try and solo a defender to 50, and the challenge of empathy/elec seems awesome! Problem is, I just could never get in to empathy, oh well, I guess I'll make me solo project something else!
As far as advice? I'm gonna suggest Zapp as well, even my dark/elec found good use for it, and she had tons of other things to do too! Of course, I did make her back before Dark was a well played set...
Anyway, much good luck! you've got me inspired to try a solo defender. Maybe TA/something... Maybe sonic/* since sonic and empathy are similar in their team focus. FF/* I have too many alts
