Please please PLEASE announce that the Vault is finally opening!!! Even if we can't see our costumes on it.

Yeah, I'm thinking Rikti re-invasion, too. This time with more lag and fewer mapservers. Beware: the devs camp spawn points (hospitals)!

Actually when you look at the world and to the maths... (gasp, shock, horror) 11am - Noon USA EST is about the best time to do anything.

Why?

Most of the world is awake then... well most of the world that thinks it's important is awake.

Its just before lunch on the East Coast of America so those there can just pop on for a moment or two during the lunch break...

Its just before work starts on the West Coast of America so those there can just pop in before they start work or school.

Its just after the work day over in the UK so those just finishing work can relax and pop in and enjoy the festivities....

See? Most of the important world is awake.

What about me? Well, I live in Australia. It works out to be 1AM - 2AM Australian EST. As devote a fan I may be, the docs say I need to be asleep then. Besides, there never anyone important down here... so I'll be there in spirit. (As a side, could any credit (i.e. badges) for attendance be put to one of my characters, as for obvious reasons, I won't be able to attend.)

I'm pretty excited about the 5th Anniversary. I'll be going out of town on the 28th ( ) and will miss a lot of the festivities. I was able to install and run CoH on my Acer Aspire One netbook with a bearable amount of lag, so hopefully I'll at least be around a little bit in the evening to hear about what's going on.

I just hope there are no badges during that 13 hours that can't be obtained later on cause that would suck. Seriously, is there a reason to only put the event on for 13 hours? Why not at least 24?People have work/school/relationships/etc.... and the anniversary is for the entire day, not really 13 hours.

I'm on the West Coast and I work from 7:30 to 4:00 so I'm going to miss the majority of the day. Probably most of it, given that spending time with the family and making dinner and what-not goes into those hours afterwards.

It ain't an ideal world.

I don't have a clue why the hours are set the way they are. My guess is that this event is going to be very "hands-on" for the staffs of NCSoft and Paragon Studios in comparison to the way the game typically runs itself. It's not really a coincidence that 8am PDT is the beginning of the work day for the devs at Paragon Studios or that those self-same devs might want to actually go home by 9:00pm and decompress after a day of double-shifts.

C'est le vie.

As for the event, there is very little in this game that happens without there being at least a token effort to put some story behind it. If Matt went to the effort to capitalize the word CHAOS, I have a feeling that it means more than just "lots of anarchy in the streets". I'd guess that it refers to some new villain or organization that's behind whatever's going on, especially if that means that timelines are merging and the fifth/council war is suddenly taking over the streets, rikti mother ships are flying over Atlas Park, and soldiers of Rularru are bouncing around Steel Canyon.

Any of you who CAN make it to some or all of the mid-day events will have to keep a running commentary up on the forums for those of us who are obliged to server our employers instead of participating.

I suspect the main reason for the death of the Vault was two thirds of the veteran playerbase reacting to it by logging on and opting out within 5 minutes of it being announced.

A five year anniversary moonbase staffed by 5th Column that hands out Items of Power if you raid it as a SG would be nice though. Especially if a successful raid triggered a time paradox "Storm" event across the servers.

I think we should open Hero 1's capsule two years early. I bet Nemesis is inside there anyway.

11am-midnight EST is 8am-9pm PST. Those are reasonable working hours for a major event for NC Soft staff...hmmm... Devs controlling major NPCs again?

Maybe Hero One and his team will come back from the Rikti Homeworld.... and Rikti Motherships will again fly the skies of Paragon City AND the Rogue Isles for an invasion like the end of beta and release of the game to Live five years ago?

I plan on ordering pizza and only taking bathroom stops. I *might* take smoke breaks, but we'll see how my nicotine gum holds out.

Altoholism isn't a problem, its a calling.

60+ characters, 5 years, 3 50's.

One day is simply not enough. There are a lot of people who will be left out in the cold, being unable to participate or have schedules that only allow an hour or two in that window. Let it run over the weekend or something. The stuff with the actual dev participation can be on the actual anniversary date, but let the event run longer.

It wouldn't be two years early anyway. The time capsule should be opened on the 7th anniversary of Hero 1's sacrifice, and that is in November of THIS year. It's only the game's 5th anniversary, but according to the lore, the First Rikti War ended almost two years before the beginning of the game.

I suspect it will be more, but that was definitely some of the best fun I had in the game. Or the massive Bloody Bay hero-villain battles with the signature's present.

Heh, I remember not knowing GMs were controlling the Longbow bosses, thinking it was just the Dev's and the signature heroes. I was running all around Mercy trying to shake some Longbow Warden that was on my tail after I tried to take him down. Needless to say, the Warden evened the score.

Back on topic ... I'll miss most of tuesday with Work and Baby Tiny issues, but I'll get to visit for a few hours during the anniversary. I hope it's something Really Cool. But - guaranteed - no matter what it is, someone will complain about it.
