I don't really know or understand the power system, haven't seen anything that explains it. The broke missions piss me off. No help from a GM, they can neither auto-complete, or force the spawn of the final boss, so you don't get the mission reward. For all that, the real problem with TSW for me, is I don't feel like I have anything invested in my characters. I just don't care what happens to them. I play it thou, mostly just waiting/looking for something. Whatever something is, TSW is not it for me.

There aren't many callouts for teams, I agree. Every now and again, there were some calls, but very infrequently.

I can't recall seeing any Cabal advertisements outside of Agartha. I did see some within Agartha, but it wasn't heavy.

Regarding the GM intervention... I had no problem with them. That was a major plus in my experience. On a Saturday at about 4:00pm PST, I came across a bug on one of Sarge's missions. I petitioned it and got a response inside of five minutes. He was able to auto complete the tier for me, which then allowed the baddies to spawn and for me to progress. He even put a little personal touch on the interaction, complimenting me on my dancing (I was emoting while waiting) and when he zoned in, he was doing the same dance I was. He asked if there was anything else he could assist with, right as the first of multiple waves of spawns came in and said "Sorry, I'll just wait till you kill those dudes".

I also had a billing issue, where it didn't auto renew my subscription after the first month. They corrected this within an hour. Again, on a weekend.

That is the ONLY thing I would give TSW the edge over COH. Within COH I can recall waiting for three hours to fix a borked Manticore (which got to the point of us breaking off, reforming and getting the same bug to happen before GM intervention), and waiting for multiple hours to free a stuck spawn.

I liked the personal touches and the super friendly interaction even more than how prompt they were.
  3. Allow me to preface this post with: I am not trying to dissuade you from playing the game. I absolutely want you to try the game and see for yourself if it's something you enjoy playing. That said...

I gave the game an honest shot. I played for a little over a month, largely solo (that isn't for lack of teamage; Cobalt, Amy and company have been awesome about including me, despite my progression being far slower than theirs). I tried various builds, but in the end, I don't think the game was for me.

There were aspects I liked. The story was pretty interesting, I liked the graphics, but I just didn't find that I was enjoying myself. I liked the investigation missions (the ones where you can research online). I thought that they added an interesting element, although some of the solutions were incredibly difficult without resorting to Google and ending up with spoilers.

It didn't grab me right away. After a few hours, I just found myself not caring about what was happening and I found it to be a bit repetitive and grindy. After a few days of zombie, faster zombie, sea zombie, female sea zombie, Wendigo, zombie, Ak'ab, zombie, I got bored of it. I know that as the game progresses into Egypt and beyond, the monster variety deepens, but I don't find myself desiring to get to that point. To be honest, I think I clung to it as long as I did because I enjoyed chatting in Shades, and I was desperate for a CoH replacement.

The "holy trinity" thing is alive and well in the game, but since literally every team I played on (save for one Polaris run) was with friends from City of Heroes, that didn't effect me personally.

Quite often, I found myself gearing up to play. Just before opening it, or just after patching, I'd realize that I don't really want to play. I finally pulled the trigger and cancelled my billing literally 20 minutes ago, when it dawned on me that I haven't been in-game since the day after the Halloween Event went live. An entire month, a full billing cycle went by and I didn't want to play once.

Once again, please don't read my opinion and decide it isn't for you. Experiment! Team, play solo, try out Amygdala's patented Fistols™ Deck, but definitely see if the game is for you before writing it off.

    Yes!

The other day, I sought it out, as it was my favourite CoH video. Ash did a great job!
  6. I tried doing this, and I have managed to capture the characters I was looking to capture. However, when I play back, all of the avatars are flickering. The backgrounds are fine, it's just the characters. Any idea what could be causing this?

Leandro - thank you for the tutorial, it is much appreciated!
  7. Player One: Awolnation - "Burn it Down"

    Death of the Party:
Every Time I Die - "Wanderlust" (despite stealing the idea for the name from "Roman Holiday")

Knuckle 'Em: Social Distortion - "Sick Boy"

Guilty: The Bronx - "History's Stranglers"
  8. There are quite a number of Champion players in TSW right now. Speaking for myself, I play on Arcadia.

4shes, MAH... It has been a privilege to play alongside you. I've not played a whole lot with either of you, but every time I have, it's been great. You've both always been excellent to me, and I appreciate the fun times we've had. Thank you both, and I hope you guys both enjoy your next adventures.

I design a shirt for a cause I believe in, and YOUR going to tell me what goes on them?? what is your deal??? are you really that jealous of what I was able to accomplish in game, and you have now formed some sort of e-resentment toward me?? Do I need to worry about a stalker here? Really...seriously... leave me alone please. Troll someone else.
Bud, I don't think that Great Rock was trying to tell you what quotes to use, only advising of what the slogans used have been, in case you were unaware. I don't think that they meant any ill will.

As for this person trolling: again, I think you're taking it the wrong way. I know you are really passionate for the game, I know that you really want CoH to succeed; but you really don't have to cross post your threads.

With the events going on, I am certain that posting in just City Life or Player Questions will have just as much visibility without annoying the community at large, as people are quite likely actively monitoring for updates..

I am guessing the asterisks were where you were unsure of the performers?

The former was Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. The latter was Gary Jules.
  11. The secret is not finding something "like City of Heroes", because honestly, there isn't.

I did recently get The Secret World, and it is vastly different to CoH. It took me a few days to decide whether or not I wanted to get it, and once I broke the mentality of trying comparing it to CoH, I found myself beginning to enjoy it a bit more.

At this point, I can't say I will stick with it for the long haul. I don't really foresee myself wanting to attempt to "master" the game, but it's a great diversion for the time being.

  13. Dinah Might has asked me to relay this message to you wonderful people:

    Dear Champion,
I apologize for sending this message through proxy, but as I let my account lapse into Free 2 Play mode prior to the announcement, I am unable to post on the Server Forums.
Words cannot express how upset I was to hear of the imitate closing of City of Heroes. I had been a fan of the game when it was in early development, and I still believe it to be the best game on the market in its last days.
First of all I would like to say thank you to all of you for the great times we have had in this game. I will look back on my time in this game with fond admiration of the friends I have met and the interaction with this wonderful community. Between Forum Friends days, Tanker Tuesdays, Costume Contests, Task Forces, Server Olympics, and the never forgettable “Hamidon” Raids, there was never a dull moment. When I think of how this game has influenced my life over the past 8 years, I feel like something is missing from my life.
You were all here, and I was so happy to share with you, the birth of my daughter who I named “Dinah”. Telling you all was like announcing this news to family.
I would also like to take a moment to thank the people who made this game the most awesome piece of gaming programming ever. Despite any complaint you may have, it would only take 5 minutes in another game to see how much work, effort and care went into this game. I wish everyone who worked on this game a prosperous future.
As for my future, I will be found on Champions Online. It isn’t this game, but it is all that is left. I am Dinah Might there as well and I invite all of you to join me. I will try to be on City of Heroes until it closes, but I am actually finding it “difficult” and “upsetting” (as silly as that sounds).
To those I don’t cross paths with again, farewell and I wish you all the best in the future. Be proud of yourselves, you created a wonderful gaming community that I have not seen present in any other game. You have earned the right to forever call yourselves:

    Champions
  14. Hey Dinah, If you have anything in particular you want said to anyone in particular, or to the server at large, let me know!
  15. Bramphousian

    Champions.

To begin, I wanted to create my own thread so as not to derail anyone else's fairwells.

Some of you know me as @Bramphousian, as Banana McJammyPants, as Death of the Party or as Player One. You've known me as Bramph, as BAMF, as Hydration, as Knuckle 'Em, as Guilty, as Not Guilty, and many more.

    My name is Adam.

Eight years ago, I walked into an EB Games and saw the City of Heroes title, and thought to myself, "That game looks AMAZING". But I passed on it. A decision I've come to regret, because as I now know, it means that I lost four years of enjoyment with you wonderful folks. The stigma that MMO's and "geeks" had, and my unwillingness to spend money month over month for a single title dissuaded me.

Four years later, after some urging from my wife, I said "to hell with it", and purchased the Good Vs. Evil box, and I have not regretted the decision.

City of Heroes, and the Champion Server became my refuge. Working a crummy job and being underappreciated, worrying about bills and the daily grind, it really got to me. I would log in and become my alter ego and forget about it. Who cares about a deadline when I can smash people in the face with a war mace?!

The game and its people helped me manage recurring depression. It helped to see me through the loss of friends and family. The people of Champion helped me to realize that though I can't shoot fire or Super Speed through town, that I could feel like a hero in life.

I left work today, looking forward to the long weekend. It's been a week from hell, and I am really looking to unwind. I decided to look through the Champion forums to see if there was more "overflow" for the Master of Kahn runs, and to inform that were I to lead a second team, it'd be on Sunday. And I saw SteelDominator's "farewell", and noticed other similarly titled threads. And I was devastated.

Many in my life would scoff that I am as upset as I am at the loss of "a game", but I am sure each and every one of you can agree, it is and was more than just a game to me. It was a community. It was therapy. It was release. It was fun.

It took me a few years, but I began becoming active in channels, and I began leading more teams. After the Double XP weekend, remembering how much fun it was to run TFs, rather than endless iTrials, I resolved to lead more TFs. It was mostly @Amygdala's encouragement, coaxing me out of my shell.

That said, I would like to take a moment for some individual "thank you's".

First and foremost, thank you @Amygdala. More than any other player, you and your actions inspired me. Seeing you constantly leading various runs made me want to be a better player and a better leader. Your kindness and your patience is amazing. I think I will always remember testing and re-testing (and re-testing) the Magi Bugs with you when it went live. I got to T3 Hybrid because of that! I'll remember the haikus in Pocket D, the proclamation of "MY" Ouroborous, and having so much fun with you. Thank you for letting me tag along. Thank you for making me feel a part of this wonderful community. No one ever plays in Talos. I am outraged that at 2:30pm on a Monday, no one wants to PVP me in Siren's Call! It's been an honour.

@Cobalt Azurean. Early on, when I was just a little Banana McJammyPants, I teamed with you for the first time against Lusca. I had been in game for only a few weeks, and Lusca had handed me my tail, solo, several times. You formed a team, picked me, and we were eventually victorious! I distinctly remember that there were only five of us on the team, but we did it, despite people saying you "HAD" to have multiple 8-man teams to take her down. I became a member of BMT of Champion, per your recommendation that day. A few days later, you advertised another Lusca run, and it made me realize that I love fighting GMs, and more importantly, it's worth replaying content if it helps someone else achieve something. Like Amygdala, you have been incredibly kind, warm and welcoming of me. Thank you.

@Silas. We've never interacted in-game. Though I did send you a PM one time. You are "osm". You gave me my love of Corruptors. Your guides helped me to better understand the role, and how to become a more effective player. I stopped playing melee characters for quite a while, to focus and to perfect my abilities as a Corruptor. And you showed me that it's great to get down and dirty in the middle of a mob, even when you're a "squishy".

@Disciple of Horus. Even though I stink of Canada (to be fair, you reek of Ramen), you were another person who really welcomed me and made me feel at home on Champion. Thank you for the laughs (usually at someone else's expense), and thank you for the teamage.

@Niqodemus. I haven't seen you in-game in some time, and I hope it's not for bad reasons. Thank you for trusting in me and for confiding in me. It's unbelievable how much we had in common! I am glad that while your stay seemed short, you chose Champion.

@Iltat. You taught me how to market! And you let me enjoy one of my favourite mini-games! With your guidance, I hit my first billion. Following your methods, I have not actively marketed in some time, but all of my characters have all of the IOs for all of their dream builds and I have over 50 billion influence left! I think I've spent just as much time marketing as playing the damn game, and it's your fault!

Though those are the names that stand out the most to me, I do want to thank everyone I've played with. Don't think that because I didn't name you above that you did not have a profound impact on me. I have played with so, so many of you, and you all have helped me more than you will ever know. Throughout some very difficult times in my life, you were all there, unknowingly, helping me along the way.

If there is anyone interested in keeping in touch, feel free to contact me. I would love to have more adventures with all of you.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all. I hope to see you all in-game, and I hope to forge more memories with you, until Champion is silenced.

My name is Adam, and for now, and for always, I am a Champion.
  16. I might be able to lead a second team if there is overflow. I can't say for certain, as I might have to work a bit this weekend, but I am absolutely willing to, should I manage to be online at this time.

Edit: I will likely be online throughout the day Sunday, so if anyone is unable to attend Amy's run due to scheduling conflicts, I'd be willing to lead a second team the following afternoon.

  20. Should be able to make this. Believe I need it on Player One (fire/cold corr)

I'll double check when I get home
  21. Thank you for these weekly runs, Placta.

After weeks of trying, it seemed that much more rewarding to finally get Triple Threat, and Master Of...

I do apologize for having to up and leave at the last minute prior to the Ready to Rumble attempt. Thank you for having me today!

    Twitter help

Quite likely, @CityofHeroes is retweeting something. Toward the bottom of the post, does it say "retweeted by City of Heroes" in grey?

To my knowledge, there is no way to delete tweets that you did not post yourself. I don't think you can remove individual tweets from your feeds. I believe there was once a way to not see retweets, but either I am imagining that, I cannot find it, or they removed the functionality.
