Asking "Gambit" be unbanned for MA mission titles

'supernatural' is blocked too
The filter is getting downright silly.
Yeah I'll agree with you on this, some words that are filtered really should be unblocked. Some of my pet peeves I've run across while making stories are God(s), and names such as Grappler, Fighter, and Akuma.
Look I know people might be annoyed to have someone else call their God a ***** but if I'm talking about other races or referring to a character as such what else do I call it?
If it's not divine but a evil God, or a person calling themselves a God how to I portray it?
I'm also in the dark about the name problem. Grapplers are intense hand to hand fighters who use duh grappling moves to cause their opponents to tap out or go unconscious.
Fighters? There is along tradition of fighters reaching a high level of skill to be considered super powered. Without getting into specific examples we have Kung Fu Legends, Karate Legends, Shaolin Legends, Mythological Fighters, and Cultural Heroes such as Alexander the Great.
Akuma - this one just puzzles the heck out of me. It's a japanese word for demon. If registered characters are using this name they can't have it trademarked because it's a public usage term. It'd be like trademarking Unicorns, Trolls, Demons, or God. Yes I know companies like Microsoft have pushed the envelop on trademarking but public domain words and names should not be blocked.
Many of the super hero names in DC and Marvel are problematic because they use common words as names. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Thor, The Thing, Daredevil, Spiderman.
I will accept examples like this because there is a history of them being marvel/dc/other comic characters. However to block general usage names/words is really unfair for our creations.
Add Jester to the list
....
grrrrrrrrrrrr
a SG Mate of mine found that "Hazard" is blocked too.

Unicorns are not trademarks.
Er, copyrights are not trademarks.
Also, if you made, say, unicorn beer, you could trademark unicorn for the selling of beer, or possibly all beverages.
Akuma is a Capcom character from the street fighter series, probably trademarked.
"I think you're confused. This is /b, not /b/."
Obviously there's an evil plot afoot. Some villain is enacting his devious scheme to trademark every word in the English language! Imagine a trademark symbol affixed to every word, everywhere! Soon, your baby won't even be able to learn to speak, read or write without having to pay him royalties!!!
I just thought of something...
Has anyone tried using the names Taurus Bulba, Megavolt, Bushroot, Quackerjack, or The Liquidator?
Just curious if those were banned, too.

The restriction on words in certain cases is a little ridiculous. I wanted to have an NPC say "I feel like a god!". But "god" can't be used so instead he says "I feel like a deity that can't be named because some people cry!"
Dragon Wraith lvl 50 DM/Reg/DM Scrapper
Mud Lark lvl 50 SA/SS/EM Tanker
Galaxy Archon Athena lvl 50 Tri-Form PB
Miss Victory lvl 50 MA/inv/BM Scrapper
US Thunder lvl 50 Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster
"Cabal" is banned. You can't even refer to a villain group by their name.
This is really getting ridiculous.

I take it, in all of this patching, nothing has happened to the Stupid Word(tm) list?

Sooooo...someone gonna sue bible publishers for mentioning disciples(tm)? Or fisheries managers for talking about salmon spawn(tm)ing?
Come on. the most logical thing to do, if one is REALLY this paranoid- note I say 'logical' not 'easy'- is to maintain two lists: one applied to the name field ONLY, so noone, GOD (tm)...err excuse me DEITY(c) forbid names their custom critter 'Blue Devil (tm) Spawn (tm) of Satan (tm)', and the other applied to all the rest of the text blocks containing ONLY profanity, NOT words...
USED ALL THE TIME IN CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH!
Things to remember:
-Common sense ain't;
-Overkill is the only kill;
-If someone asks if you're a god, run away.
LOL some of the words they filter are just plain silly. Add Pilgrim to the list. I was putting together a time travel arc and decided to use the Mentor Pilgrim as my story contact. When I got to the point where I had to NAME my contact and typed that in I got a "profanity" error message. Hey THEY created the character and named him so I guess it's okay for them to "SWEAR???" but I can't?
My only possible explanation for this is the a Pilgrim is considered a Holy Man and GOoDness knows we have to be politically correct and can't use anything that suggests the existance of ... well you know who. I solved my problem by switching the contact to Mentor Lazarus but it still almost hysterical that they even banned me from using the name of a character they placed in the game themselves. LOL

Crap, I can figure out everything but plieoorshages.
Superfluous and eloquacious ??? frequently become discombobulated and undiscernable when disarrainged thusly.
And no, I didn't use one of those word jumble engines. If I did, I would know what that other word was.
Back on topic, I'd really love it if god was taken off of the list. Lord of the underworld just doesn't have the right feel to it. I also agree that the words that are on there for trademark issues should be reserved for names of people. Far far too many of trademarked names are just normal words.
The most ridiculous one I've found yet:
[u]Thing[u]
Yes, "thing" is not a name you can give to an object.

"At what point do we say, 'You're mucking with our myths'?" - Harlan Ellison
I'm right there with you. I tried to use the word "slit" in the context of a character description (i.e.: "learned to slit a few throats along the way") and I was told ONOZ U R TEH PROFAYN. I've had several SG mates run into similar issues with words that can and do see innocuous use in everyday conversation.
I think at this point they might want to just throw out their list and start from scratch. Or at least use the current CoH chat filter list instead. That list is still a little heavy handed, but at least it's not completely ridiculous.
Anyone test if the word "draconian" is banned? Because that would be hilarious.
FAKE EDIT: It's not.
