Today, October 30th, 2008, NCsoft announced a partnership with TransGaming, Inc. to bring the award-winning City of Heroes franchise to the Apple® Macintosh® computer platform for the company’s western territories. The Mac version will be available for public beta testing with the release of the game’s thirteenth free expansion, Issue 13: Power and Responsibility this fall. The official launch of the Macintosh version is planned to follow shortly thereafter via a special digital-only edition.

[ QUOTE ]
"Players will soon be able to join the battle of good versus evil in the most popular comic book MMO on both the PC and Mac platforms…and in the same game world," commented Brian Clayton, executive producer of City of Heroes for NCsoft West. "Given Mac's fame as a platform for creative people and City of Heroes’ unprecedented character customization options, I think City of Heroes is a perfect fit for the Mac gaming community."

Curse you devs. Now I have no reason to NOT get a Macbook Pro now. I have been using CoH as an excuse for years.

Cool. I hope this brings more players to the game.

Great job, devs!

1) Will non-mac users be given access to the bonus power and costume in the future.

2) How will this affect people who have macs and already have accounts? (I dont have a Mac, I'm just wondering)

I've already got a couple of Macs and a couple of CoH accounts. While I'd love to not have to boot into Windows to play CoH, I'd hate to have to pay for a new account to get that privilege.

Will this be like World of Warcraft, where buying the game gets you both clients?

Yup, based on the size of the Mac user base, we can expect a baker's dozen.

Great news.

One very minor thing: When one goes to the beta sign up page there is a blank box and a click button. I had to click the button to generate the error that told me what I was supposed to put in the box.

You might want to pass along to the web page people to label the box and save people some guessing and/or thinking of SNL sketches...

That is great news. Should get lots of new players on board.

So, how does a PC user go about getting that Valkyrie costume set you're providing in the Mac version?

Yes, just like the Good vs. Evil edition of the game, the Macintosh version will include some special in-game items, including:
<ul type="square">[*]Mission Teleporter Power - Players can save time and get right into the action by teleporting directly to their active mission.
[*]Exclusive Valkyrie Costume set - Costume pieces include two varieties of wings, a cape, a skirt/kilt, pants, boots, shoulders, chest, gloves, belts, and helmet with multiple details.[/list]These items will be available separately for purchase in early 2009 for customers who are not playing on a Mac. We’ll have further details of these exciting options, including screenshots, in the near future.

We'll have the above posted in a separate forum announcement, along with information about the closed beta test of the Mac version, shortly.

Good times. I'd pay a couple of bucks for that power and costume set. Definitely won't pay $10 though

I have a question, My friend has a intell Mac. I loaned him my old comp so he can play CoH. He has his own CoH account already.

SO for him to play on his mac he have to pay 19 bucks? or can he download the client from NCsoft since he owns the game already.

*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

Fantastic news. Can't wait to see the Valkyrie set. I assume it's not just the existing tech armor with a spear, right?

so... what's the recharge time on the mission teleporter?

...and will it teleport you across zones?

So, to be absolutely clear: I currently have a game account (obviously). I own a intel macbook pro laptop, which I would love to be able to play CoH on. If I buy the mac client I can apply the code to my existing account, get the 1 free month of game time, have the right to download the mac client onto my laptop, and play my existing account - with the teleporter power and costume bits - on both machines? If so, SWEET! I can't wait for the ability to play COH without all the fuss and bother of dealing with bootcamp and dual-booting my laptop into windows.

Hey yeah. If they worked out a few more costume pieces into that set then I would buy the Pack. The Cyborg pack was really lacking for $10.

Fame can be such a misnomer. More like a misconception, creative people can use whatever they want to make what they want. If they didn't, they shouldn't be considered creative in the first place.

Anyways, I hope that CoH/V's character customization gets a boost soon. It won't be all that long before other MMOs are going to be coming out with rival character customizationability.
