While that post is quite amusing it does make me wonder why people bother paying any attention at all to internet trolls any more.
Like the trolls who started posting in September: "Ha ha! I was right! CoH WAS doomed." Ah... yeah, no.
These people spent years posting everywhere that every video game was doomed. Now that CoH is shutting down it doesn't mean that they were right, it just means that everything ends eventually and their "prediction" has no more meaning than the stopped clock that's right twice a day simply by default.
Most of this stuff on the internet is essentially the rambling of millions of psychotic internet children. It still amazes me that anyone spends a second reading or believing any of it. -
I hope your event goes well and much fun is had by all, Arcanaville.
As others here have said, I've always enjoyed reading your posts. In fact, not being able to read your posts is one of the things that I will miss the most.
Take care all and Happy Thanksgiving. -
You might want to also start a thread about this in the "Check In" section of the TOR forums.
You might be surprised how many of us Paragon citizens are playing TOR. -
An excellent video that really captures what I've been feeling since August 31st.
Thank you for that Samuraiko. -
I did search the forum and I did not find a thread about this. Not saying it's not there, just saying that I did search and didn't find it.
Anyway, thanks for being a dick about it. -
Quote:You do realize that a person born 9 years after that movie was in the theater would - today - not only be old enough to have played City of Heroes since launch, they'd also be old enough to drink and have done a tour in the military or gotten a bachelor's degree.*(I would hope I wouldn't have to explain that I am referring to Raiders of the Lost Ark but just in case...)
Yeah... I'm feeling old now too. -
Joongang News reported that on September 26th, NCSoft, Nexon and Valve met in Hawaii and discussed merging. They reportedly offered Valve US$893 Million for the merger.
Rather than deny the report a Valve spokesman merely said that it was a rumor.

I guess "realignment of company focus" is code for "spending a ton of money on companies other than Paragon Studios." -
Looks like GamebreakerTV, a video podcast site that covers MMOs, did a news video on this as well.
City Of Heroes Fans Buy The Paragon Devs Dinner -
Massively has two articles about City of Heroes on their front page right now.
Fans continue to show spectacular support for City of Heroes
This article has Leandro's final demoedit video.
The Daily Grind: What does it take for you to go back to a game you enjoyed?
While this article is about old MMOs in general, it has a pic from and mentions City of Heroes specifically.
Not a bad job of getting the word out. -

"Nature Affinity should have been FREE."
Had they made Nature Affinity free then people would have started wondering why. Also, the people who made the decision to shut down Paragon almost certainly weren't even aware that Nature Affinity had just gone live. They don't concern themselves with the details of individual games, just with the business side of things.
And while some people at NCSoft knew they were going to shut Paragon down at the end of August, the people at Paragon most certainly didn't know that. The entire point behind a surprise announcement like they did is to prevent information (or perhaps code) from leaking.
"Refunds for August should have been given."
Why? The people who payed in August were able to play in August. Why should anyone get a refund?
"ANNOUNCE the DAMN game is going to close."
They did. In fact, they announced it 90 days in advance. Right here.
"Upgrade ALL accounts to 'vip' status, after announcement."
Zwillinger has said they're trying to see if they can do this.
"Merge teh servers."
What would this take? How about a ton of new code and more money poured into the game. NCSoft doesn't want to do that. They're shutting the game down in order to save money.
"Update Live with all the i24 Beta Stuff."
No, they're not retarded. We've been told, by developers, that the Issue 24 build is too buggy to go to the live servers and they don't have the resources or man-power to push it to live.
"Unlock the Store for the last 2/1 Months."
Zwillinger said that they don't want to do this: "Just in case." Just in case of what? I don't know. Perhaps it has something to do with the talks that former Paragon management is in with NCSoft investors.
"Have the devs (bless em) working on a Offline Cox."
Once again NCSoft is closing CoH because they don't want to spend more money on it. You really can't expect them to put more time and money into a project that they're cancelling in order to save money.
I'd love to see them get a server emulator up and running. Or some code that would allow me to run the game as a stand-alone on my own computer. Either way, it's going to be a fan project. The former Paragon developers almost certainly won't be involved in it. -
I logged in on Virtue at about 1:30pm PST. It was already 3 red then. Atlas Parks #1 - #23 were full, so I ended up in Atlas Park #24.
By 2pm PST people were filling up Atlas Park #33 on Virtue.
People were calm and mature. People turned off FX. No one was jumping around like tards. Everyone was just standing there with /e holdtorch going.
Considering that this is the internet, I was more than a bit surprised by how mature people were. Considering how great the community in general is I shouldn't have been. -
The petition seems to have finally run out of steam at a little over 15k signatures.
http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...ity-of-heroes#
Still, that's not bad. Especially considering the short time it's been up.
EDIT: BTW Capa_Devans, you should include the coverage by GamebreakerTV in your Media Coverage doc. -
I started a thread on the GamebreakerTV forum asking them to cover the effort to save City of Heroes on their Friday podcast TWIMMO (This Week In MMO).
Please Talk About The Effort To Save City Of Heroes On TWIMMO
And they did. Well... sort of.
In TWIMMO episode 111, at 35 minutes and 30 seconds in, they talk about City of Heroes shutting down. They don't mention the efforts to save it though. In fact, it looked like Gary (the host) was kinda surprised to even see City of Heroes in his notes and wasn't really sure what to say.
So not as good as I hoped, but at least they talked about it.
Feel free to post a 'Thank You' in their forums or, if you really want to thank them, go click on some of their ads. -
The petition is now over 12,500.
http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...ity-of-heroes#
It also says 2,477 more signatures needed. Needed for what? What happens if it hits 15,000 signatures? -
Quote:Thank you for posting this Golden Girl. Knowing there is hope is a good thing. So there are at least some of the devs - maybe even the whole stuido - who are taking an active role in the rescue effort.
And thank you Mr. Belford for posting this. Not only as verification (so many unfounded rumors going around these last few days), but also as a reminder to not get our hopes up too high. Yet. -
I'll miss the blue caves, the Council pool room, and even the Circle of Thorns' cake-layer cave.
I'll miss running through The Hollows, without a travel power, to the opposite end, where the mobs are 4 levels higher than me, just to get to our mission door.
I'll miss doing that first respec trial in the power plant.
I'll miss hunting Tsoo in Steel Canyon to unlock my second costume slot.
I'll miss waiting for The Warriors to finally man-up and take Talos Island away from the Freakshow and Tsoo. Waiting for Scrappers to get Super Strength and Energy Melee. Waiting for some interesting content to get added to the Shadow Shards.
I'll even miss the Knives of Artemis and their 10+ caltrop patches of doom.

Yeah, Fusionette was the first CoH NPC that had any real personality. I liked her, and her origin story, so much that my first 50 is also one of the "Nuclear 90."
I know for a fact that, if nothing else, Fusionette will live on in at least one other MMO. At least until they make me change her name. -
I just signed the petition. Only 330 more signatures needed to hit 10,000.
Not a bad number of signatures in less than 72 hours.
I can only hope that we're able to bring City of Heroes back to life. -
Q: What were the plans for Rularuu and the Shadow Shard?
-
Venture said exactly what I would have said, except that he probably worded it much better than I would have. So I'll just say that some people seem to have forgotten that many many thousands of other people quit playing SWG before the NGE because they didn't feel it was worth paying for.
And yes Angry Citizen, I would be happy if SOE picked up City of Heroes/Villains. I wouldn't be happy if they didn't also hire at least some of Paragon's people but I'd still give them money to keep playing City of Heroes.
I'm complex enough that I can be happy about one thing and also feel not so happy about something else at the same time. -
Correction: I never said that Nexon acquired NCSoft.
They acquired 14.7% of NCSoft. That was their acquisition. And it may not seem like much, but as the largest shareholder they almost certainly have the clout to make many decisions, unless a large portion of the shareholders openly oppose a certain decision, which none of them would have any reason to do. -
That earnings report issued on August 8th may have been the last straw, but it wasn't the entire story.
First of all Nexon, a Japanese toy company, became NCSoft's largest shareholder in June, 2012.
Then there's the fact that City of Heroes really hasn't been doing that well financially:
"Going F2P saw about a 20% jump in revenue. It certainly wasnt in the realms of a several hundred percent increase claimed by other MMO companies who had also made that shift, but it was a positive step forward.
NCsoft has just released its Q1 2012 financial information and things arent that positive any more. To begin with, NCsoft saw declines of over 60% on both income and profit against the same time last year despite sales only being down about 9% over the same period, claiming a lot of increased variable expenses saw those profit figures drop."
So it was the big-wigs at Nexon who weren't getting as much money from their newest acquisition as they thought they would who are almost certainly the ones that made the decision to pull the plug on Paragon Studios and City of Heroes. -
I've been playing SW:The Old Republic on The Ebon Hawk Server. I'll probably keep playing that until it goes F2P.
After that... I don't know. I've played a number of other MMOs, but I kept coming back to City of Heroes. Once it's gone and I'm over SWTOR I don't know that I'll be playing any MMOs at all. All of the ones that are out now just seem so lackluster.
I was thinking about trying GW2 despite the fact that I'm no longer really interested in the fantasy genre, but that it's going to happen now.
Man, I was really looking forward to Issue 24 and the blaster changes. -
Quote:My mistake.Ninja Run and Beast Run don't do anything to your toggles. You can run them and all your toggles for as long as you like (or as long as you have enough endurance, if it comes to that).
Ninja Run only turns off Combat Jumping, if I remember correctly.
Doesn't change the fact that Rocket Board only suppressing toggles, instead of shutting them off completely, would be a welcome change.
