This actually gave me a little hope

Thanks J_B for posting this, and thanks to TA for the write-up! This is the kind of stuff we need to continue seeing and getting out there. Feeling a lot better suddenly. Especially with the following quote:

“Keep the positivity going for the SaveCoh campaign. Don’t let ourselves be pulled into aggressive tactics or negativity towards NCSoft, they are listening and we DO have their attention. Keep up the good fight!”

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

I just hope NCSoft will release the IP (or sell it or however those things work) to someone and they will announce it soon. The only reason I would be totally down on NCSoft is if they just bury the IP and all this yummy goodness becomes the Ark of the Convenant in a warehouse somewhere*.

*(I would hope I wouldn't have to explain that I am referring to Raiders of the Lost Ark but just in case...)

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

As already noted upthread, this summation of Dev attitude is the key takeaway, I think.

“Keep the positivity going for the SaveCoh campaign. Don’t let ourselves be pulled into aggressive tactics or negativity towards NCSoft, they are listening and we DO have their attention. Keep up the good fight!”

We should post and re-post that quote over and over every time someone on the forums goes all "I'm impatient! How can we hurt NCSoft to express my rage?" on us.

Thanks a ton, Johnny!

Wow, this is incredible. And the best part-- Melissa, Matt and Brian are NOT employed with anyone else but are still obviously fighting hard to save CoH! WOO!

I truly hope they can hold out with what they have for severance packages, and I wouldn't mind starting a fund for them and the other Paragon Studios employees that are trying to hold out to go back to work on CoH. How could we go about this I wonder?

I also hope that they received enough of a severance package to hold them through this, but I think that there may be legal and/or tax ramifications for an "Adopt a CoH Dev" fund that could prevent them from getting most of the benefit. Just at a quick glance here you'd probably have to show that you were staving off poverty for all of them and any severance package would probably work against that.

But it's a fun thought... have television commercials "for only 50 cents a day..!"

Okay, now my random silliness is getting the better of me.

I mean this with all friendliness and community spirit...
This is what I (and others) have been talking about when we've been doing our best to steer things positive and ask others to TRY and drop so much negativity.
I don't mean that in an "I told ya so" fashion (as I completely understand how a snippet of insider encouragement makes a huge difference). All I really mean by this is... RIGHT ON.
Positive thoughts and positive actions. In the end, we can only be satisfied with our efforts and how we went about it.

This community recognizing any Indiana Jones references? Don't think you have any worries there.

As for the blog, this gives me hope. And I hope it does the same to many players who has felt it waning. They, even without being able to say much of anything, has said I think what we needed to hear. We ARE getting through, we ARE making a difference, we NEED to NOT start anything that can look badly on anything we have done so far, and I think most importantly, that we are NOT alone in our fight. So keep up the good fight heroes!

Thanks to everyone that helped make me a welcomed part of the community, and for giving me over 3 years of some of the best gaming I've been able to take part in. May the next game bring many friendships and maybe reconnect to some old CoH friends.

You do realize that a person born 9 years after that movie was in the theater would - today - not only be old enough to have played City of Heroes since launch, they'd also be old enough to drink and have done a tour in the military or gotten a bachelor's degree.

Yeah... I'm feeling old now too.

Thor's Assassin's blog about the dev dinner. I haven't seen anyone post about it yet.

I know nobody can talk about anything. But without regular updates, things will continue to disintegrate pretty fast.

.
yep, read this this afternoon before heading out or i'd have posted it up myself. I'll admit that it definitely helps resolve to get these little dispatches from the front line. and the mention of several things having to fall into place kind of explains why thus far there hasn't been any official news, the logistics are still being worked out. Its still a long and uncertain road though.

Johnny being upbeat?

Did someone tweak tanks while I wasn't looking?

Just kidding Johnny. Welcome back to the Dark Side.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

August 18, 2006- Vince joins City of Heroes his junior year of High School.

August 31, 2012- Vince, now with a Bachelor's degree, wife, two dogs, a condo, two cars, a job with the premiere technological company in the US, and four years of job experience, tears up as he reads about the sudden cancellation of his game.

I feel you, man.

Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Thanks for posting the link here JB and it gave me a little hope as well and then some. Just going to repost a comment I made on that blog:

Quote:
What we have been doing since the announcement is precisely what we need to continue doing. I am a bit handcuffed as to what I can say because I was entrusted with the information. Which is the reason I was vague with the details in this blog.

The main thing to take away from this write up is that they see us, they hear us and they know what we are about. Ramp up the effort, continue the vigils, getting the word out and continue to show the world what our community is and has always been about.

The more we show this, the more bargaining power is on the table. If we start going to ‘the dark side’ even a bit, it ruins the image and what we are fighting for.

Some of the people who have the power to effect change do not know what this is all about, don’t know what it is we are losing or what is in danger of being lost. It’s up to us to make them understand.

Keep doing what we do and #SaveCoh!

I think the thing I resent the most about NCSoft's move in all of this is the fact that they're taking away Developers of a game that are, to me anyway, the people I have unconditional love and respect for. Having attended the last two Player Summits, these are PEOPLE that I *want* to think of as being my friends ... and the stunt that NCSoft pulled put *MY FRIENDS* in jeopardy (ie. unemployment in a not so wonderful economy) ... and I feel powerless to help them personally.

The Rednames we all know and love, they're *my* Team ... they're *my* League ... they're MY Heroes ... and I don't want them to be taken from me. These people have become family in a way ... and they're people I admire. So when someone undercuts their livelihood, and threatens to take away the relationships and bonds I've made with these people, and invested myself into what they've made because it's unique and beautiful ... yeah ... it's really easy to get angry.

But we're not Vigilantes ... we're Heroes. HOW we do things matters just as much as WHY we do them, because we're going to have to live with the consequences of our actions.

Go Red Team.
Go Blue Team.

We're all pulling for you back here.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Heck, they were showing 'Raiders' in a local theater this week. Way to get new fans!
