Discussion: Good vs. Evil Coming to the Mac!

Is the teleport power temporary like 30 days?

The reason I ask is this.

PC version GvE = Costume pieces, Pocket D, and jump pack
PC version Good collectors = Costume pieces, power slide
PC version Evil collectors = Costume pieces, hero clix Toys
Mac version = Costume pieces, Teleport power

All have perm powers.

New game card version
jet pack goes away in 30 days.
Same cost as Mac version $20

Give us the jet pack forever its not fair that every versions gets a perm gift and if you have this one you dont.

Given how many people have shouted out wanting a damn jet pack and still you have to rebuy it.

Will I buy this version as an addon most likely becuase I want more options. But damn it you need to correct the game card version to be inline with the other versions.

We still have to pay for the client.

[/ QUOTE ]
No, we don't.

[/ QUOTE ]

.... not sure where my 20 dollars is going then. Whatever.

I guess everyone missed me saying this is a good thing in favor of proving me wrong. This IS a good thing, people! More players for a great game! I HONESTLY don't get why ANYONE is complaining. I've been praying for Mac OS X City of Heroes since I began playing. If anyone's worried about "exclusive" content, please remember that this is NCSoft! They have NEVER kept anything exclusive for long, and they even mentioned it. We'll all be equal with time. Only in the month of December will you be able to pick the Mac users apart from the PC users, and that's only if they A) tell you, or B) wear the entire Valkyrie set.

This. Is. GOOD.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you pay the $20 for the Mac version and you apply it to your existing account, you get an additional month of gametime, the teleporter power, and the costume set. Just like if you were to pay the $20 for the PC version of GvE on the website and you apply it to an existing account (without GvE options) you get a month of gametime, the jump pack, the Pocket D teleporter, the Justice and Sinister costume sets.

Oh. Well, I already pre-ordered the sucker so....

Thanks for clearing that up.

I use Parallels rioght now to play CoH on my mac, and honestly, its the only reason I even have Parallels on my laptop... now I won;t need it! YAY!

The thing is, running under Trasganing, there is no "Mac only" version of the game, like Spore, Transgaming enables Windows versions to work on the Mac using translation libraries, similar to how Linux binaries run on FreeBSD.

At least now, we'll have a clean port, instead of some bugs being apparent through Crossover and Parallels.

Please read what I was replying to. I'm all for the Mac version of COH, great idea
and I already pre-ordered it. I was replying to the guy that said he had to buy a
PC to play COH even though he wanted a Mac. That part makes no sense. He
could have bought a Mac and had it all in one machine.

[/ QUOTE ]

I did, it just wasn't very clear of your meaning... sounded more like you were replying to the statement about mac users being able to join the fun, rather than the statement about buying a PC. When you make a undirected reply to a statement, it is assumed it is to the major point of the statement and not a minor point, unless you direct it more. he started talking about mac users being able to play CoH now, so it sounded like you were saying they always have been, and there is no point to the mac version... but after you reexplained yourself, i see what your real point was.

a clean port? they aren't even really porting it, its just Cider, which is based off the same thing Crossover uses, its just all built in and tested better. If its like other games that have used Cider, there will be Cider specific bugs found that need to be fixed.

I am so done with Windows. The -only- reason I run Windows on my Mac is for CoH. ( Yay CoH! ).

THANK YOU for this. I cannot wait. The day this comes out, my wonderful, stable Mac will be reformated to get rid of that antiquated Windows XP. I am unbelievably excited over this news.

For the last 51 months and counting, I have been forced to boot into Windows for my favorite game. No more. Hip, hip, hooray!

Does the Mac client support two cores like the PC version (ie is renderthread 1 enabled)?

WOOOOOT!!!!!!! I have had to play CoH on a PC for 2 years now. I am wicked happy. Though will this CoH be able to take FULL advantage of the Mac OS 64 bit environment? Will we be about in use the trackpad in the new laptop models?
This is something I did not expect, Great job Dev's Good luck. Can not wait to try it.

The way transgaming works is that it wraps around the existing windows code and translates it to run natively on OS X.

The underlying code does not change. So as far as CoH goes, it will still be a pure 32-bit application. Nothing in the game will make any use of any unique mac features because it will be exactly the same code at it's core as the windows version.

Since the underlying code is the same, I'd assume the answer would be yes - it's just a matter of figuring out how to enable the "renderthread 1" switch, since we won't have access to the same shortcut that PC users do.

i hope i get into the BEta lol

That is if the transgaming cider API supports multiple processors. The game will still run if it 'sees' a single core processor as exposed by the transgaming/WINE interface.

Just looking for a confirmation, that's all.

So with i13 in open beta now, what does this mean in regards to the Mac Beta? I mean there's no place for a closed Beta for Macs now.

Too many alts to list.

Yes, there is. Be patient.

GhostFalcon posted in the other thread that a separate server will be used for the closed Mac testing.

And the test is RSN (Real Soon Now)

Wonder if Mids would be kind enough to take on the task of porting MHD to OS X. I'd try and get it running through a compatibility layer, but it uses .Net, which a lot of those are picky about.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have Mids running on Linux using Wine and winetricks to install .Net 2.0. Wine can be installed under OS X so you may want to have a look at that. Can't give any first hand experience on how it works since I don't own a Mac.

Getting the program that can talk to the server is a pain but straightforward. However, the badge and other tracking that can be done by some apps is going to be troublesome, because the cider code wraps the CoH client into it's own world.

I don't even know what mids, hero stats, or vidiotmaps even are.. so I guess i wont have to worry about it.

I am very very happy to see COH ported to another OS. The more MMOs (or other games) that make an appearance on Mac OS/x the better IMHO. I currently have Bootcamp set up with Win XP so that I can play games (after using OS/x Windows feels like a "toy" operating system and games are all I use it for), and it will be wonderful to be able to play COH/COV natively instead of having to reboot. Perhaps this will encourage other game companies to follow suit, I can only hope.

Now, COH is far from the first, you can already play WOW and EVE on the Mac side and have been able to for ages from what I understand, however the former sucks very badly IMHO and the later is, well, way too complex for my current gaming habits, albeit one of the best MMOs on the market reportedly.

COH/COV continues to be the best example of a near-perfect MMO in my opinion. It does what it does inside of its niche market just about perfectly and the developers continue to listen to the player in an amicable manner. Just about every other company seems to fail in this regard.

Bravo NCSoft, I am eagerly awaiting info on participating in the beta for the Mac Client.

Any news on the open beta for the Mac client? That last interview with Positron said it was going to launch alongside i13 but haven't seen anything on it.
