Discussion: Good vs. Evil Coming to the Mac!
How will bind files work?
Currently I use the /bind_load_file command to map my binds
I have to to do /bind_load_file c:/coh/reset.txt to load my speed on demand binds.
On mac this command won't work.

I'd assume you would use a unix path like /Users/BackAlleyBlaster/cohstuff/reset.txt
Even in Windows I find it easier to just use relative paths. Create a directory called 'data' under c:\coh, put reset.txt in there, then just do:
/bind_load_file reset.txt
Sometimes I even get fancy and do /bindloadfilesilent binds\mm\bots1.txt

I'm sure the different clients will handle default file directories appropriately. If not, this is what the Mac Beta is for... to find those inconsistencies and fix them.

One of the reasons I never got a Mac was the lack of NATIVE running games (Not emulated by some means) on that platform. As City of Heroes is the only MMO I regularly play, this is now a big incentive for me to get one in the future
<QR>
Late to the party, I realize.
Still, I've got a couple of Mac-based friends that I'd love to get playing this game. I think this is awesome-possum news!
Thanks, Devs.

It's not really taking any resources away, is the beautiful part. I, for one, am thoroughly jazzed at the idea of being able to delete the windows partition from my iMac. Thanks!

More subscribers = more revenue = more money for NCSoft and hopefully more money going towards COH development

Now that you guys are working with Transgaming is there a Linux version in the future? I'd really love to stop dual booting my computer just to play CoX.
[/ QUOTE ]
Transgaming's Cedega has supported CoH for a long time (over a year that I know of) and it plays really well, so I don't know why you still feel the need to dual-boot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I understand that but what I am looking for is a no cost client like Mac is getting. When I'm figuring up what I can afford to buy I can't justify the cost of Cedega to play one game over a dual boot setup which costs me nothing except some hard drive space.
Can someone with a Mac download the 14 day free trial of CoH/V? I have a friend who wants to see what the game is like and i wanted to know if he would be able to use the trial on his Mac.

Once the client is publicly released, yes. Applying game codes, item packs, etc, will work the same as with the Windows version, presumably.

We still have to pay for the client.
Why are people complaining? This means more people for the game, more money to NC, and that means more possibilites for our beloved MMO. This is a good thing, people! Stop freaking out!

No you wont. You must have missed Positron's response about that.
[ QUOTE ]
No, you will be able to just download the client for Mac, with no cost involved (no "exclusive goodies" if you do though). If you have an active CoH subscription, you can play on Mac or PC.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's why I am looking for a no cost solution. Mac users wont have to pay for anything additional so I'd like to see the same thing for Linux. Game companies are going in the right direction by getting their games out for the Mac but they're still missing the *Nix community. A good portion of that community are hardcore *nix users and wont dual boot at all. With the use of *nix OSes on the rise game companies need to start getting their games out for them too. Transgaming makes Cedega so it shouldn't be too hard to get a *nix client out.
I reactivated my account and started playing again yesterday just cuz i know I'll be able to play on my Mac soon... yaay!
It would be nice if they made a Linux version like they did for Eve, but i dont see much money in it, Linux is not able ot be tracked in usage very well. They dont mind doing Macs cuz they see the numbers, and with hitting 9.5 % of the US computer market in sales last quarter, it makes sense, especially since they are just gonna run the Windows code with Cider.

Thats cool. Im glad the Mac users are able to finally get in on the fun. If this announcement had come 6 months earlier I wouldn't have bought a new PC. My main question is this: When will open beta start for the PC players?
[/ QUOTE ]
This makes no sense. Mac users have been able to play COH for a couple years. Intel Macs
can use BootCamp to install any Windows and play COH or anything else on Windows.

I think you're missing the point. Most people who buy Macs do so because they are tired of dealing with Windows. What real sense does it make to just install the OS you wanted to get away from on you're new system. This is for people who don't want to mess with Boot Camp and dual booting. It makes perfect sense if you think about it.

Like I'm going to waste my hard drive space and money to install Windows on my Mac in order to play some game, and not be able to do anything else but boot into windows and just play one game... I primarily use Macs, and its one of the reasons I stopped playing many games I used to. I multitask everything, heck my Mac is usually running my TV so i can watch that while playing stuff too, along with many other things (multitasking rules)... its not a machine whose sole purpose is gaming. With a Cider version, I'll probably play CoH a lot more now and not let my account lapse for many months at a time. My current Windows PC can run CoH fine, but I don't plan on ever replacing it, or fixing it if it breaks... my next computer purchase in a year or so will be upgrading my Mac. More than likely, I'll continue to only play games i can run on OSX. (though the new Star Wars MMORPG could tempt me to buy a windows license and use boot camp when it comes out if they don't do a Mac version)

and I already pre-ordered it. I was replying to the guy that said he had to buy a

could have bought a Mac and had it all in one machine.

.... not sure where my 20 dollars is going then. Whatever.
I guess everyone missed me saying this is a good thing in favor of proving me wrong. This IS a good thing, people! More players for a great game! I HONESTLY don't get why ANYONE is complaining. I've been praying for Mac OS X City of Heroes since I began playing. If anyone's worried about "exclusive" content, please remember that this is NCSoft! They have NEVER kept anything exclusive for long, and they even mentioned it. We'll all be equal with time. Only in the month of December will you be able to pick the Mac users apart from the PC users, and that's only if they A) tell you, or B) wear the entire Valkyrie set.
This. Is. GOOD.

If you pay the $20 for the Mac version and you apply it to your existing account, you get an additional month of gametime, the teleporter power, and the costume set. Just like if you were to pay the $20 for the PC version of GvE on the website and you apply it to an existing account (without GvE options) you get a month of gametime, the jump pack, the Pocket D teleporter, the Justice and Sinister costume sets.

When my boss' G5 died (liquid cooling leak fried it), the company, in its penny-pinching ways, bought him a Mac Mini. So, Quark, Photoshop, etc., are all subject to the spinning beachball of wait, more sluggish, etc., compared to my G4 (which has less ram to boot).
I want to tear the thing open, pull out the 2g ram and harddrive, and replace them with 4g ram and a faster harddrive of some sort. Or throw it out the window. Maybe both. When he's on vacation I have to lay out our newspaper on his machine and its a pain @_@
