ok not to beat a dead horse but....if you had an intel-based mac you could run parallels or boot camp, making the mac client redundant.
[/ QUOTE ]
The game doesn't run as well in Parallels, and Boot Camp means a) having to boot into windows when you want to play and b) having to buy a copy of Windows on top of everything else.
B was my only option a year and a half ago, and I'm glad I did it and was able to play, but, man, is it *so* nice to not have to reboot anymore.
So, no, not really redundant. -

This is what i want to know. A friend of mine plays COH in her Mac through Bootcamp and she's dealing with crash issues. Will she have to rebuy the game to get the Mac version or can she just download the mac client from her account page?
[/ QUOTE ]
She can download the Mac client for free when it is released.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do we still get the in-game items?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not unless you buy the box or the item pack from the online store when they release it there next year. (Which is just how, for example, the GvE box works.)
[/ QUOTE ]
So, here is my situation. I own all the special editions, and all the in game packs etc for my acocunt. I currently play on my MAC via Bootcamp. So...
If I put COH on my MAC OS, with the game packs I already own, will it automatically unlock the Valkrye items, or do I need to buy the game for the MAC and "upgrade" all over again?
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe it's the latter. You have to buy the mac client to get the exclusives, but when you log in, you will still have all the exclusives you already had.
[/ QUOTE ]
Codes are applied to your account. The client you run is irrelevant. At least as it works right now with, say, the GvE pack. Given that the software for the Mac client is essentially the same as the PC software wrapped in another layer of code that lets OS X run it, and that the Mac client will share the same servers as the PC client, I see no reason why this will be any different. As such, I'm pretty sure that you could buy the Mac client and apply the code to your accout regardless of whether or not you actually have a Mac, getting you the month's paid time and the power and costume peices.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure Ghost Falcon will correct me. -

All the Mac Closed Beta players will be on their own server (independent of the Open Beta Training Room server), so really, we're just wrapping up a couple of things on the back-end.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a question about this one: Isn't the point to get the Mac client to play well with Windows peers on a shared server? Or is the point to weed out any possible server-crashing events first, and then move to the main Training Room?
If the Mac client is tested in an isolated Mac-only server until it goes into Open Beta there could be some real huge issues down the road.
[/ QUOTE ]
I imagine it's because they can't run a Mac I13 closed beta and a PC open beta on the same server at the same time.
Once the Mac side gets out of closed, it'll probably link up with the rest of the world. -

If the iMac didn't have that horribly reflective plate of glass over the LCD I'd buy one to replace my G5 tower and my PC now that my two MMOGs are mac... EVE and CoH!
Ah well, maybe apple will wise up and offer some options for those of us not wanting a mirror for a monitor.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've had one for over a year now. The screen puts out so much light that reflections in the glass are only ever an issue about 1% of the time, and then only if the machine is positioned just so. And when I say issue, it's never been bad enough to get in the way of playing CoH. -

A whole set of costume pieces, and a mission teleport power, just for having a different operating system?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it's new costume pieces and a power for $20. It looks like we Mac users will be able to download the mac client for free, but that won't get us the costume pieces or power.
This is no different than the Good vs. Evil edition, where new players got new costumes pieces and powers included. We existing players had to purchase those perks separately, just like we can do with the Mac edition perks.
There's no reason to be upset. There's been no indication that either version of the client will have sole access to any costume pieces, powers, zones, etc. It doesn't make financial sense to not allow all players a chance to buy more stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nevermind the fact that, if it works like all the other boxes, you can buy the Mac Client box regardless of whether or not you *have* a Mac and still get the month of game time and the costume/power applied to your account.
I fail to see a problem here. -

... I would MUCH rather have seen the resources be put into a technology refresh than deployment to another platform...

It's not really taking any resources away, is the beautiful part. I, for one, am thoroughly jazzed at the idea of being able to delete the windows partition from my iMac. Thanks! -
(This comes with a little story, apologies if it's too long, but it kinda goes with the art)
So, me and the SO got married back in June, and about 6 weeks before the wedding I decided I wanted to do something nice for the both of us to mark the occasion and get artwork done of our CoH main characters we've been running since we started the game a year before.
But I didn't want to just have anyone do it, I wanted it to be meaningful to both of us. After some though I figured, what the heck, and sent off an email to someone who we'd met at past Comic-Cons asking what his prices were. I was, needless to say, pretty terrified that he would be out of my league, if he did them at all.
Two months and the wedding flew by with no response. I wasn't tied to it, and just figured he was busy or not interested. Hey, I tried right? Then, two weeks before SDCC he writes me back, sorry he missed the wedding but game to give it a go in the scant time before the show.
And I could even *just* make the top end of his commission scale. I was pumped, and all I had to do was keep my mouth shut for two weeks. It was rough.
We get to the show on the 25th, hit the NCSoft booth for our game swag, and then I managed to get us over to the target booth. He was super-cool abotu the whole deal, and the surprise on her face when he fished it out of his sketch book was awesome.
So, in the interest of sharing, I'd like to show off our mains (my BS/Regen scrapper and her Fire/Fire blaster) as depicted by Mage and Grendel creator Matt Wagner.
Bonus points: We finally hit 50 the week before! Couldn't have asked better than that. -

How about the number for a counselling service when they discover they can't run pretty things like water effects or Depth of Field?
Glad to hear there's possibly more going on with ATI now, though. I can dream of that next to having a Mac client for the game.
See you guys at the booth! Hopefully first thing Friday morning. -

The catch this year is that the actual solstice is at midnight GMT on the 21st. Which makes it 3pm on the 20th here on the west coast. -

I can attest that it's almost 100% true that, generally speaking for the entertainment industry, much of the best work on every game or movie that you have ever loved, love, or are eagerly anticipating was, is, or will be performed between the hours of 8pm and 4am. Usually desperately close to deadline.
Everybody enjoy Speed Racer next month while I try to readjust my sleep schedule, and I feel your pain up at NCNC while y'all try to horse 12 out the door. Thanks for the only MMO that's even come close to holding my interest. -
[ QUOTE ]
But, i really don't know what a hot dog is made out of.. what is it made out of?
[/ QUOTE ]
In the case of all-beef franks, it is, in fact, beef. Usually trimmings and scraps left over from processing steaks and roasts. These are processed by being ground and mixed with water and other seasonings and preservatives, and then furter pureed into a fine paste the consistancy of soft-serve ice cream. That mixture is injected into cellulouse casings and are further flavored and then cooked. The casings are removed, the hot dogs packaged, and shipped off to your local MegaMart.
In the case of hot dogs that are not all-beef, it's the same as above, only using a mixture of beef, pork, and chicken trimmings and scraps.
And now you know...the *rest* of the story.

The tuxedo costume includes an elegant formal tuxedo jacket with tails (available to all characters).
[/ QUOTE ]
I LOVE you guys for making the tuxedo pieces available to all characters, not just guys ;_; As soon as my husband mentioned this pack to me, my first response was to vow to not buy it if the formal suits were men-only.
It really is a terrible shame that there aren't more guy bits, though. I think you should add in a solid version of the veil for them - that could have everyday, non-girly applications. Aside from that, that's some great work, guys. It's kind of pricey, though... $5.99 would have been more reasonable, considering how many of these you stand to sell (seriously, you can't tell me you're not going to make a packet off of this!). Or maybe a pre-order discount next time?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ditto all of this. $9.99 is, what, 60% of a month's subscription? If it was that much for a pack of two for me and my SO (in the spirit of the holiday, even!), I'd've already bought them both...
Can't justify the same for $20.
edit: damn the jackets are hot. will have to think about that. still too much money...
[/ QUOTE ]
The tux jackets being a) completely hot and b) useable on all characters tipped things the other way, and I bought them for me and the SO last night.
They look great, I'm glad I got them, and I'm happy to support the game, as it's the only MMO I can even begin to contemplate playing. I still think $20 was too much, especially given what you get for the same money from the GvE pack. By all means keep doing things like this but either consider a new price point for it, add more content, or offer package deals (or all of the above!). A wedding/Valentines pack seems like an obvious place for, you know, including a couple-deal at least.
My lady's blaster looks awesome in her new coat, so that was worth it. -

I intentionally left out (c) and (d) because they were irrelevant.
[/ QUOTE ]
They are not. (c) states that they reserve the right to alter or change the service as they see fit. That would include throttling server population, on a server-by-server basis, to prevent downtime.
(d) establishes that we are not entitled to reimbursment for any and all such interruption of service. Whether or not they would is up to them, not you.
Pretty standard stuff, really. -

User Agreement (refer to Section 10).
[/ QUOTE ]
(a) NC Interactive reserves the right to interrupt the Service from time to time on a regularly scheduled basis or otherwise with or without prior notice in order to perform maintenance. You agree that NC Interactive will not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.
(b) You acknowledge that the Service may be interrupted for reasons beyond the control of NC Interactive, and NC Interactive cannot guarantee that you will be able to access the Service or your Account whenever you may wish to do so. NC Interactive shall not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.
I refered to this earlier. In the event of a server outage where nobody can connect I can see how this would apply. But this is not a case of servers been down or service being interrupted for all players. This is a case of "we are going to let some people but not others. Who determines who gets in and who dosen't? A creative and industrious player could even make a case for discrimination.
The EULA applies to everyone.. not just some players. If the servers are down, fine, I can accept that. It already happens a lot. But if access is being given selectively and "interruptions of service" are happening selectively, I don't believe the EULA is shield for that.
