Ever considering doing what LoTRO does? In game you can right-click on the spammer's name in the chat window and get a context menu that let's you automatically report the spammer. No fuss, no typing, instant notification to a GM.

That's a nice system if you can do it, expecially if we could simply right-click on the names in the email window, too.

I hope this is in the in-game GMOTD as well. Not everybody who plays visits the forums.

On a positive note, spam seems to be way down on Infinity and Victory where I play. Ignore spammer seems to be working. I haven't recieved a spam email in weeks and only 1 tell in the last month.
So, the process seems to be working. Thanks to all who report as your making my game play more fun.

Yes, I've noticed this on Virtue and Pinnacle too. They're practically gone.

Spam is definately down since the E-mail fix.

Keep up the good work.

One suggestion is to actually have a slash command that is reactive

We have /tell and /reply
We have /ignorespammer

we could use a "/replyignorespammer" type function. Bind to a key of your choice. Get the tell, hit the key and done.

Pulls the /reply username and adds the /ignorespammer in one swift motion.

The In-Game Email Spam has been completely obliterated, thanks to the dev's on that one, it was much needed.

However, I am getting the /tells again with growing numbers each day (Pinnacle and Infinity). /ignore_spammer is working amazing, but they don't have simple names (i.e. fkdsd or something to that extent).

I did WoW for a little bit and the system they have is pretty nice.

If you are on a trial account you CAN NOT sent a /tell to a higher level toon than yourself, UNLESS THEY have you on their friends list as well (and in CoX's case i think Global friend list could/should work as well). This would basically elliminate the /tell spam IMO.

Just a thought, but I am happy with the Dev's and the steps they've taken thus far in elliminating these spammers from my daily game-play

Not only was it in-game, it popped up live while I was in the middle of a mission. Twice. Which was mildly amusing.

So now the devs are becoming just as ba as the RMT'ers LOL

Some months ago the number of chat tell spam started going down and the number of email spam started exploding for me. I think the common practice of people alerting everyone using the /Help channel to the spammers name was the cause of that turn around.

Now I've noticed that the chat tell spam is on the rise again and my email spam seems to have gone down.

In any instance I'm glad the dev's are keeping a close eye on spam problems.

By the way before you ignore them make sure you send a tell back to them explicitely telling them to stop spamming you and that you are reporting them. Maybe some spammer out there has a conscience, uh yeah, right.

"/spammer" or even just "/spam" would be easier to remember, but I'm willing to bet that setting up alias commands is easy enough for both (quite a few commands have several aliases).

I suspect that these creeps use an automated system of some sort so they can annoy--I mean reach as many of us as possible before the Devs shut them down. I still send them a tell anyway, advising them that I will never give my business to a company that engages in such inconsiderate practices. You never know; maybe someone IS paying attention over there.

I know this is going to sound petty and childish, but I must confess, I've actually started spamming the spammers. If I receive a spam, I start sending the tell: "Hi! I’m going to spam YOU over and over again! How do YOU like it?" over and over again 'till they block me.

It probably doesn't really accomplish anything, but it feels so good.

I hate to point this out, but two wrongs don't make a right. In this case, you're also violating the terms of service.

Now, on the surface, you might think, "Yeah, right, like a spammer is going to report me." Consider this, though. They know that their account is going to be deleted in pretty short order. If you piss them off enough, why wouldn't they report you just to spite you? I mean, they have nothing to lose because their account is going to be banned anyway. But they do have everything to gain for doing so, in that if your account is banned, well, that's one less vigilante pest they have to deal with on their next throwaway account.

You might also be thinking, "Yeah, but they'd never cancel my account for spamming someone." Don't be so sure. Nowhere in the terms of service does it say "no spamming, unless you're justified." It just says "no spamming." The GMs shouldn't have to make a subjective call over what is and isn't "justified" spam, and frankly, I don't want them to.

So I hate to say it, but I were a GM and someone reported you for spamming, even a spammer, and you really were spamming, I'd ban you too. Not because I don't like you, and not because I wouldn't think you're justified, but because I'd have to in order to maintain consistency and emphasize that no spamming is allowed for any reason, period.

The E-Mail SPam is definately down which pleases me. As for the tells, I have been getting less but I still get them occasionally. The actions the devs took seemed to have helped a great deal and for that I thank them.

Yeah. Maria Jenkins Arc, Mother Mayhem/Malaise in the Asylum. As we were fighting Malaise, it popped up and we had a team wipe. Then a few minutes later it happened again. Mother Mayhem team wipe. (I swear I saw MM punch up /em laptop and hit /gmotd Pesky AI is in cahoots!)

Considering how hard it is to get debt in this new and smoothed patch, I found it refreshing. I now stand a chance of getting a whiff of those famous Epic Debt Badges. For the hell of it, I killed off and debt capped all my characters this week. We have a running pool on who gets a badge first...
/threadjack

I have to say I am very impressed with what the Devs are doing for ridding us of these spammers. I use /ignore_spammer <name> and broadcast in my channels when we have a problem with one. Since the email solution went into effect, I'm not getting 30 a day per character. /Tells have drastically reduced. I still get a few here and there, but it's not every 3 minutes, 10-50 at a time anymore. At one point, I was solo and completely hidden because I couldn't team. When I was on a team, I couldn't follow the chat because spam was scrolling it too fast.

Thank You!

I appreciate the assist with this problem--seems I play at the time of day when they spam the most and I have noticed this way down until recently the tells have started up again since the email fix but its expected. These folks use unethical manners to advertise and anyone that would give since an operation a credit card number is asking for trouble

unfortunately or fortunately, depends on how you look at it, I have gotten only 1 such tell and that was a long time ago.

Now if you could find a way to put an end to those annoying in game e-mails or put a report as spam button in the e-mail area we might have something.
