I hope it'll be customized a bit more than the DR site is though. Of course my favorite part about the DR forums is that there's no flash banner. Stupid thing freezes up my remote desktop for a solid 10-15 seconds when I refresh the page.
Curious how the name purge will happen - are we re-registering on the new boards, or will we have an option to change our name somewhere? I know admins can change VB names, but didn't think users could change their own names.
I would love to grab my global as my username - makes for far less confusion

I'd really like to do the same. Wizzerd was functional 4-5 years ago, but it's just not who I am anymore...

Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

guess I'll be the one....
Looking at Dungeon Runner's page it looks like a thousand other forums I have seen, usually free to the public.
One of the things I liked about UBB is that they looked different than the standard model that I have seen everywhere. Unless you have a fantastic template to change the style, I say meh!
MEH! I say!
[/ QUOTE ]
Precisely my feelings on the matter. Meh, indeed!
I welcome our new VBulletin overlord.
Tech Support Rule #1 - They will lie to you. Usually intentionally.
How exciting...!
Why do I always feel a tad late and a dollar short when posting about new things coming.
[ QUOTE ]
So, will the new forums allow us to post pictures and stuff like the guy did here? You'll have to scroll down a bit!
Hmpf, link wont go to the actual post, you will have to scroll down to see the photos.
And will we be able to put pictures in our Signatures too? You know.. big hulking sig pics that take up more space then the average post?
[/ QUOTE ]
I certainly hope not.

Lighthouse,
Will there be any change to automatic forum titles? Will they be removed? What about personal titles that have broken the automatic progression?
Will post count still be tracked or will it be removed?
[/ QUOTE ]
Everything will remain the same including titles, progression, and post counts.
That is, unless they purposely decide to change it (which they could have done any time while using UBB). But, barring a decision to change policy, the goal is to have the new software pick up exactly where the old left off. That's what all the conversion scripts are programmed to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was my assumption, although to be honest, I wouldn't mind them taking this opportunity to nuke post counts.
Be well, people of CoH.

Not nuke, but it's an easy setting to just disable the view of them for anyone but admins if wanted. vBulletin has some snazzy features.

And Lighthouse...? Can we NOT get the HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS flash header that we have now? Can't we change it to something more in line with a forum? Something that's only maybe 200 px tall at most? Something that's NOT FLASH?
[/ QUOTE ]
The flash header is not planned to be re-used on the new vBulletin platform. We'll have more details on the "new" look as we get closer to deployment. The initial beta forums will be pretty plain-jane to start.

Ooo... a contest for the best fan-based banner would be all sorts of cool.
Just sayin'

If they do that contest, I call dibs on submitting the banner of not having a banner.
Is vBulletin the same thing that the XBox forums uses? If so, count me as a "no". That thing is hella slow.

Planned Forum Migration to New vBulletin Forums

All I needed to hear. Where do I send the gift basket?
My only comment is this migration is long overdue...
Thanks team for finally getting to it

Sweetness, guys. I know I've been hard on NCsoft for some of the decisions that have been made lately. It's nice, though, when they get it right. As someone earlier in the thread said, UBB really does suck, and I'm glad to see that we're going with a more reliable and robust system. I can't wait to dig in.
While we're discussing it, I've got a quick question/suggestion. We've been waiting for quite a while for developments on the City Vault front. Since "the driving factor (among many) was the integration with vBulletin to our auth system and security," any chance that maybe it can be integrated with the player/character database as well to do stuff like optionally show our online status?
At any rate, good luck on the migration, I hope all goes well.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

My thought exactly when I read the post. XD
I'm so used to UBB now, it will take some time to adjust, but lately, this has been a rather unreliable forum, so I'm all for it!
<edit> Whoops, quoted wrong thing. Meant to quote the signature picture post
Yup super snazzy features. You can upload a single image as your sig pic much like your avatar (unfortunately it's not dynamic, so can't use a CGT etc for it - maybe a plugin to change this so it can use a URL instead of uploading a single image?)
There's also a plugin to limit physical signature size - for example, the AA/JA forums have a 250 pixel limit on signature height; text or picture. Keeps people from having big annoying sig pictures (which I also very much hate).
[ QUOTE ]
Thank GOD. I can't believe the amount of suck this forum software has devolved into the last couple months...
And Lighthouse...? Can we NOT get the HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS flash header that we have now? Can't we change it to something more in line with a forum? Something that's only maybe 200 px tall at most? Something that's NOT FLASH?
(I mean, I have custom CSS so that I only see what I want to see (which means I've suppressed/blocked the flash header, but a lot of people have complained about the size of the flash header.)
[/ QUOTE ]
I think he means can we get a work mode switch.
From a purely cosmetic standpoint, I'll kinda miss these boards. I've always liked 'em for their simplicity and how they don't look as "busy" as a lot of other boards out there.
That being said, some new features and stability would be nice.
[ QUOTE ]
While I'm glad that the forums are (finally!) getting an upgrade, I'm not glad that it's to vBulliten. They should have gone with Invision Power Board instead.
Oh well. At least UBB is being exterminated.

I fully agree. IPB > vB but lest we forget the nost important ... vB > UselessBull****Boards.
Glad to see the Devs taking off the training wheels.

So far my very very favorite thing I noticed on Dungeon Runners site was NO FRIGGIN STARS!

Will the old post counts be carried over? Or will we all start from 0?
[/ QUOTE ]
Or will we not count at all?

Will the "show all" or "all" feature still be available for threads in vBulletin? I really prefer it on long threads so I can just scroll down versus going through each page separately.
(I ask this mainly because another forum I was reading moved to vBulletin and the "show all" function was no longer there after the move.)
Other than that, yay!!
And, annoying "form you have submitted is no longer valid" will be gone!
[/ QUOTE ]
FYI, the "show all" feature is generally a huge lag inducer, especially on big threads. That's why it's generally disabled.
[/ QUOTE ]
Drat. My connection is why I like the "show all" feature. Ah well, I'll just max out the amount of posts shown for each page.
