Just a quick post from a lurker that doesn't want to get purged.
That's all. Thanks.

In my day, we had to wait for 14 levels to get a travel power. And we had to run to each contact, and the leveling was harder.

And Founder's Falls HAD no tram.

I'd prefer to keep my reg. date because that gives me the right to go into 'old-man-mode.' OMM.

And trust me, THIS Omm is not about peace and harmony.

I better post something so I don't get purged....

As for OMM - In the good old days we had no puffy 25% debt for dying in a mission. It was full debt and we earned it at level 6 not 10!! These new-fangled "heeeroooos" have it soft I tell ya!

In my day, not only did you start collecting debt at lvl 6, you wern't even considered to be in debt till you were over 1 million in debt. Why, my first level 50 went from level 35 to 50 with 1.5 million perma-debt!

There was no Green Line to Skyway, or Founders Falls, and no fancy shmancy disco tech, or time travel short cuts. We had to run everywhere, Faultline was nothing but a Vhaz, Clock and CoT infested chasm that you could get hopelessly stuck in.

We didn't have bases with fancy porters, we had to run all the way across Bricks to get to Crey's Folley, and Founder's to get to Eden, or the Hive! When we traded inf to another hero, we had to make ten individual trades just to transfer one million cuz we could only trade 99999 at a time... and yes, that's right we didn't have fancy punctuation like commas either!

If ya took Fly as a travel power, you could bottom out yer endurance simply by leaving it toggled on and not doing anything else. And we liked it that way!

Yep, those were the days when there was real heroes. Heroes that could herd up every damn foe in Bricks, pile them all by the hundreds into a dumpster, and let the blasters nuke them all to hell in a single BSOD inducing, Protection fault overrun, map serving explosion! It was glorious!

Not at all like today's soft squishy heroes with their "We needz a heelorz" Young whippersnappers, don't none of em know what a real hero is!! [/OMM]

Will the "show all" or "all" feature still be available for threads in vBulletin? I really prefer it on long threads so I can just scroll down versus going through each page separately.

(I ask this mainly because another forum I was reading moved to vBulletin and the "show all" function was no longer there after the move.)

Other than that, yay!!

And, annoying "form you have submitted is no longer valid" will be gone!

[/ QUOTE ]

FYI, the "show all" feature is generally a huge lag inducer, especially on big threads. That's why it's generally disabled.

[/ QUOTE ]

Drat. My connection is why I like the "show all" feature. Ah well, I'll just max out the amount of posts shown for each page.

*kicks dial-up connection*

I like the see all too.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

You know, I was laughing through this whole thing.

Because you are so right. XD

I still switch off Fly for Hover because I keep worrying about the Endurance. I always fear going into Faultline with Flight because I keep remembering the days before it was refurbished.

Also, when the dam area was somewhere special that was rarely seen in pictures, then quickly removed.

Looking for my SG's costume contest winners thread and it went poof! Freedom forum doesn't go past 5 pages? We've all been AFK with IRL! Who decides what gets purged? We'd really like the post back...people liked looking to see piccies of who won each week!

Who must I speak to about this concern?

yay! I manage a vbulletin forum (uncensoredfreespeech) and I love vbulletin. If you set it up right it can have all sorts of cool plugins.

There are a lot of skins available and quite frankly, i dont like the garish colors of UBB.....I just wonder what the "hero" and "villain" skins will look like.

By the letter of the law, its actually fine and dandy to discriminate "end users" so long as you outline it in your agreement (within some obviously common sense reasoning). However even software user agreements have been a focus in court battles... they're numbers are only sure to grow. Yet in the case of VB, there isn't a disclaimer outlining that you can't use it for hosting adult material, and when you receive the cease and desist letter, your payment is not refunded. As one can imagine, that's already a frowned matter (just apply it to something else).

So yea... its really a big 'ole nasty mess, that's going to get sorted out sooner or later. But given there are larger legal matters being pressed in the superior and supreme courts - not to mention no one has seriously has challenged VB in court about it (yet at least) - its mostly a "nerdrage" issue. Doesn't mean there isn't a problem... or that it won't get legally addressed at some point.

You are fighting a losing battle here. Even though there have been lawsuits, to my knowledge every single suit has failed to break any EULA.

The Game's EULA, the existing Forums Terms of Use, NCsoft's Rules of Conduct all spell out ways that NCsoft could do the exact same thing to any player (ie ban and the player forfeits any payment).

In fact all software that is licensed have terms that the company can revoke the license from someone.

Get over it.

and despite having a disclaimer saying "Don't use us for illegal stuff" there are various sites that do warez, etc. that vBulletin ignores, they do pull it on something that isn't specifically called out.

I have a feeling that the guys who are using vBulliten on Warez sites aren't paying for it anyway So it's kinda hard to revoke a license that doesn't exist.

Why is everyone so excited? i'm quite happy with the current layout i don't see why it needs changed.

And how come some threads are working, but all the AT threads are completely gone?

It isn't the layout that is the problem (well, mostly).

UBB is slow, a resource hog, and doesn't have some nifty features that would be a nice improvement for posting/reading the forums. Like the spoiler tag.

As to why the sections are missing, it is likely a glitch with UBB. You know, the software you are wondering why everyone is so happy to get rid of?

Edit:
See this post by Lighthouse.

As amazing as this may be, I've never been on a vBulletin site. I don'tknow anything wrong with the current one, although since I've only used this one and one other (*gasp* Yes, I've tried WoW *shivvers* ) I don't know how bad it really is.

You really don't need to see a vBulletin site or have used any other forums to know that there is something wrong with these ones.

Over the years I have often gone days/weeks a time when pages are extremely slow to load or sometimes just time out and give me an error. The search is epic fail - if it doesn't come up with a response or you spell something wrong, you get the message "You cannot make another search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes." You have to wait or click any other thread and then redo the search. This is after after just one search that didn't give the results you wanted; that sort of defeats the purpose of a search. People very familiar with the internet are using the Google search instead of the built in search because it works so much better. Whole forums sometimes go missing - this isn't the first time. And when they do forum maintenance to purge old threads, the forums are down for hours. The calendar sometimes drops birthdays off or says there are no events on a day when people have birthdays and have their settings showing the information should display.

Experience with any website* should send up flags saying something isn't right here.

*Geocities and other free websites that shut down if more than three people look at them in 20 minutes don't count.

Incorrect. Sony lost an EULA case. Microsoft has been involved with several settlements (in matters for and against them). There are numerous smaller cases, but few that ever get media attention.

Despite what corporations might want you to think: EULA is not an "end all be all" matter. End users have rights: just because an EULA doesn't tell them to you (or possibly subverts them), doesn't mean you're not entitled to them and/or cannot fight back.

I'm glad someone else understands the problem, besides me. I don't feel an ounce of pity for illegal sites getting shutdown: but when entirely legit sites are served with an illegal license revocation due to censorship, then I'm bothered by it.

VB doesn't want legal porn sites to use their software? Fine. State it in their license agreement. Why don't they do it? Well... that because they could easily get sued over that. And there are many interest groups who would file such an act against them, were it obviously written so.

LOL! You know it shocked me too, that a blacklisted site would have legally registered software running their illegal site. Ironic to the extreme: but the world is full of stranger things.

I agree whole heartedly.

While the forums have on occaision been painfully slow, it was something I dealt with because the discussions were often informative and entertaining.

The 2 things that aggravated me to no end were the poor excuse for a search engine, and the diatribe that often occurred due to a general lack of moderation.

I personally solved the former by using Google, and the latter by making a shortlist of those whose opinions I could usually discount immediately as being a unconstructive add-on designed merely to increase their post count.

Hopefully both will be easily solved by the new forum platform.

Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother, my sisters and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me to take my place among them,
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave can live... forever.
