(But unfortunately, I bought the beer first and it made me buy the Wedding Pack...I woke up with a ring on my finger...)

Does this also mean we'll be seeing a Divorce Pack anytime soon?

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.

$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?

HUGE rip-off.

I consider it bad form to offer costume items like this for money, but at least it's better than the leaf crown and sandals. In general, I don't like exclusive items like these, but I do think the boys have picked as good a pack of costumes as any to sell - not generic enough for people not interesting in weddings to really want them (well, almost), yet still good enough that those who do buy them can get a lit of mileage out of it.

I see this as GvE game pack MKII. What did it really give me when I bought it? Two costume sets and a couple of unremarkable powers. Yeah, I use the powers, but I wouldn't have paid a nickel for 'em. Might end up buying that one, as well. The tuxedos look good. I have being an apathetic person in nature working in my favour, as I probably won't bother to do anything now and if I do anything at all, it'll be when I get around to it.

You seem to have your terminology comfused. Where you said "huge rip-off", you should have said "package I'm not interested in". Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean it's a rip-off. Those of us who like it will buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. No rip-off there.

Unless it does so well that we get future packs with low VFM. How long until something people really want is in a $10 pack with little content? What if the Roman costume is released on it's own for $10? People will buy it, money goes into the NCsoft account. A lot of people lose then though.

I really do believe that most people playing this game would, provided it didn't affect free content, be willing to pay extra for packs of costumes/emotes/powers. But I REALLY hope we get better value for money in the future.

Call me crazy, but something that might make folks happy is by unlocking the Roman outfit tomorrow, for free, to everyone (including future characters - not just as a badge-tied one).

Of course, I suppose I just want even more costume goodness that everyone knows exists...

Wait, how do they "lose"? NCSoft offers a product. Some people pay for that product. Maybe enough people buy it to justify NCSoft trying such a thing in the future, maybe not.

Where do people lose again?

They flow from the mid-back and look much more natural than the trench coats.

I wonder if they're using the code from the Night Widow's buttcapes instead of the standard trenchcoats? They have always flowed more like a real material, and behaved differently then the players trench coat.

I have nothing against paying for packs - if the content is worth it. but this isn't guild Wars. This isn't Exsteel. We've already GOT a monthly fee. Some of us have already spent literally hundreds on this game (some, with multi-boxing, etc. have probably topped a thousand easily).

Content like this, costume pieces and emotes, USED to be simply part of normal updates. But now, with NC Soft in charge, they're starting to "offer" packages with very little content for an extra fee.

This is a BAD THING.

We've got a monthly fee. Part OF THAT FEE was the promise of free upgrades. Now, with NC Soft just taking the reigns, it's already devolved into "SOME free upgrades.. PREMIUM STUFF COSTS MORE!". Unless they plan on dropping the monthly charges, it is a rip-off. We're being charged twice for the same goods.

And yes, it is a "lose" for the people who DON'T buy it. Because the more people who DO buy it, the more incentive for NC $oft to make more "premium" packs, the fewer resources available for the free packs, the less content *WE* receive that we are already paying for.

This is a bad move no matter how you slice it.

I've seen no indication that we won't still be getting costumes and emotes in free updates. These are just special event extras. You're being paranoid. The Justice/Sinister sets didn't indicate that we'd stop getting plenty of free costumes, why the hell do you think this would?

To say they have "lost" something presumes they have a fundamental right to it, that they're entitled to it simply because it exists.

That's a stance I cannot agree with.

I wonder how my winged character would look in a tuxedo? Well, when I get paid on Friday, I'll find out. In any case, I recently came up with the idea for a very formally-dressed Mastermind, but the available costume options just weren't formal enough. Is it worth ten bucks just to get him out into the wide world of Mercy Island? Maybe.

As for the debate about paid costume stuff, I must point out that additional-charge costume packs often pop up in the Suggestions & Ideas board. Maybe NC Soft is testing the waters, as it were. In other words, they're saying "let's find out if this will work as well as we think it will".

Yeah, I was surprised how much better the buttcape physics is on the tux tails. I hope it crosses over to the trenchcoats.

I'm not terribly thrilled with having to buy a separate pack for costumes, especially not at $9.99 ($4.99 seems more reasonable), but I've been *dying* for a tux for my female magician character and now she has one.

Before you move too fast, I've *heard* (but can't confirm, as I'm not in game and my comp is on the fritz again) that you can't combine the new tux coat with wings or capes, at least on males. You may want to double-check that first

And yours is a stance I can not agree with. The reason MMOs charge $15 a month is two-fold. The first reason is to maintain the servers. The second is to hire a development team to program free upgrades. If this is $10 package thing becomes standard then we are missing out on upgrades which should have been free in the first place.

Well, the character I'm thinking of is female, so that won't muck my plans up any. I wonder though, why dudes can't mix tuxes and wings. Probably some wacky craziness with the game engine.

Many MMO's charge for things that CoX does not, and vice versa. It's a business. They like to make money.

Well...that's not precisely so.

Honestly, CoH spoils it's players thoroughly. Every other MMO I've played (and that's fairly long list) would have charged for expansions for things CoH gives it's players for free. RWZ would likely have been a "bigger" update, for example, and been boxed up as an expansion for sale. Same with some of the other additions.

In the multiple years I played EQ, we got exactly 2 zones for free. There were precisely 2 holiday events (one of which ended up getting re-used for hallowe'en every year). There wasn't anything at all like costume slots.

In fact, I don't know of a single game where anything other than a very minor addition/upgrade to the game is given away, except CoH.

In the MMO model, the money you pay for subscriptions goes toward keeping the lights on and maintenance on the game itself. Future development is done in anticipation of dollars received from people buying the expansions.

The players haven't "lost" anything in the scenario presented, because it was never theirs to lose.

Before the patch, the players didn't have access to those costume pieces or emotes. Some, I'm sure, have not purchased the pack because they either can't, or won't. They haven't "lost" anything, because they never had it.

What has happened is they haven't gotten an extra for free, as they were used to doing.

The MMOs charge whatever they want, and do whatever they want with the money. The only reason they (usually) do things you the customer approve of, is because you'll stop paying otherwise.
