I prefer that, with some powers a bit less MA-y. The problem with making it very much MA-based is that it may suit DP, but less so with all the other primary powers.
-
I kindof like it, but I think I'd rather it was something a bit more general than all MA. Same principal, but maybe less highly trained and stuff.

Quote:I'd hardly say I'm getting hung up on it. 30 is less silly because...it's 10 levels further in? It takes a little more work? Why is level 30 less silly than level 20?
And does it really matter? Does it really bother you that anyone can unlock VEATs and HEATs 10 levels earlier than your precious suggestion (lvl 30).
This is a really silly thing to get hung-up on IMO.
Also, precious? Way to be patronising. I also didn't suggest 30, I said "even 30".
To me, this is like how some people like capes being an arc at 20 and some think we should automatically get them. Both camps have good arguments and logic. An illogical plan would be to change it so a character just has to walk to a place in KR to get it or similar. You've removed all sense of achievement in it, but you're still witholding it from people. If you're going that way, just give it at the start. -
And some people hate having to achieve anything and want to go into the game and automatically have everything :P
Seriously though, if that is what they are catering too why even make them unlockable. Instead of making players get to the top level, they're made to play a character for a couple of days and then they have it. If you're going down that road, just have them available from day 1 and let people just start on them.
It just seems a really silly level to put it at. If it's unlockable make it a level that you have to work a bit to get to (Even 30), if you want it to be without work just give it from day 1. -
I don't get the epics unlocked at L20 thing. The whole thing with unlocking them at 50 is that you achieve something and get something, L20 is nothing. Why even have to unlock them when it will take nothing to manage? You don't even need to perform a specific task, just playing a character for a few days will manage it. Any level of achievement for unlocking them is lost.
-
The problem with 1-20 IMO is that you burn through the levels quickly. Later on you have lots of missions to do, early on you have a small number you always do if you're doing missions. That's also the problem with the idea of new early content, you don't need early content quite quickly.

Quote:I've done that, but now I don't actually know when it's blocking stuff and the like, and when something isn't running I have a random selection of URLs to guess which ones I need and stuff. It's like I just went onto Facebook to play Mafia Wars, the page isn't fully scrolling, I don't know if that is noscript, something else (AVG and/or ZA have been having a fun not fully loading site problem in recent times) or what. Is this now my safe internet viewing experience? Constantly looking at not entirely working sites and wondering what is actually causing it?In the options, set it not to pop up the message. Also, keep in mind that if you run across pages where you do want scripts to run, right-click on the NoScript icon and whitelist the site. But try whitelisting only that site.
For example, if you whitelist youtube.com and ytimg.com, YouTube will work without a problem. -
Just installed adblock and noscript because of this thread. That scripts currently forbidden popup at the bottom of the screen is going to irritate the life out of me

Quote:I don't think it's stealing content or anything, I just disagree with the attitude where anyone who has advertising is doing it wrong and screw them, which a lot of people take. It's no-win really.Fortunately, the Paragon Wiki's "business" model forgoes that possibility.
I agree with the others. My opinion is that if you can't provide me a browsing experience in which the ads are unobtrusive and free of malware, then I am under no obligation to view your ads. I know that some argue that this is "stealing" content, and while I don't agree with that viewpoint, I do understand it.
Still, I have every right to take steps to protect my computer from harm that can be inflicted by third-party web sites, and with all of the exploits such as these out there, I consider not running unapproved third-party javascript code part of a sane and responsible security strategy.
Even when the Paragon Wiki was hosted at Wikia, I encouraged people to block the ads, especially when they fell through on their promises of the ads being discreet and not injected into the content of the articles. I'm glad we bailed out when we did, because from the looks of things, the site has gotten much, much worse.
And I seriously dispute the assertion that you have to bog your site down with advertising in order to make a profit. Google has made billions of dollars by doing just the opposite. Does anyone else here remember the days when search engines were trying to basically become ad portals? Google realized that less is more, and created an advertising strategy that gave both advertisers and consumers what they wanted: a useful service without being a pain in the a**. I had several conversations with the Powers That Be at Wikia to try to make them understand that, but as you can see, that was a fundamental difference of opinion we never saw eye-to-eye on.
I'm convinced that Wikia is a great idea. If they'd just stop being so greedy and focus more on providing a useful service to the community and less on turning every page into a billboard, I think it would be wildly successful, much more than it is now.
To be honest, this is more just moaning about how the future is having to have multiple programs and applications running to be safe but then at the same time be hurting the sites you want to see keep going. It'll probably only get worse too, the average internet user don't check message boards and the like which is pretty much the way you find out about programs like these, and at the same time everything is pushing you to do everything online. -
Quote:The problem with that though is, at some point ad revenue will go down because advertisers realise how many block them, and then sites go under because they can't afford to exist. It's a one finger salute to malware, but potentially websites too.Oooooooooooooooooooor you could just block ads all together and give a giant one finger solute to malware
Ugh, it's sad really. To use the internet we have to install multiple programs and disable features and stuff. And this is the future :\ -
Quote:I think that is a big thing. Why would they market it strongly right now when in a few months they will have a shiny better looking game with more features to market? You push that, as that is what will bring in new people. Here's the thing that everyone overlooked in Castle's posts - Marketing is dependent on the devs to provide the material they use and okay it. Since the big build up is for GR, then that's what they'll be saving their dollars for and since they can't yet say anything about GR, marketing's hands are tied.
Quote:Well we are kind of in a tight spot here. First of all we can't advertise in Marvel comics (although, I think I did see an ad once) and DC has their own game coming out. On top of those facts, we also don't have our own comic on the shelves anymore, so regular advertisment is limited.
I'd be suprised if Other Superhero MMO had less, since it's a pretty new game. You're comparing the marketing of a new game to an old game, of course the new game will have more. If an MMORPG kept up the advertising budget for release for the lifespan of the game you would get a lot shutting down faster. -
I think that vet power is a very good one really. It's useful for a lot of people, but it's not so useful or desirable that it's unfair on the newer player. That's kindof the level they need to be. If they do a power or a costume, it has to be something that is vaguely replicable or not something that someone REALLY wants or needs, especially when we're now at the stage when, let's be honest, we're getting to the point where a new player might not be able to get a power because the game finishes.
I don't think they should end the system, it's a nice little thing and encourages people to keep their accounts going. Tweak it maybe, have some system where you choose your powers with some system to stop someone picking all the best stuff first, but not remove or end it. -
Quote:I agree and disagree. I like exploration badges in some out of the way place, but at the same time I agree that there should be more exploration badges that involve you going to see something significant.r/e exploration badges, the problem I've always had with them is they're very rarely put somewhere you would go naturally (like the top of the Atlas globe, or through the doughnut hole in Faultline). They're usually in some nondescript, out of the way place you'd never, ever find except by random chance or checking the internet.
Fewer exploration badges placed at points of interest would be much more of a draw for me than a huge number a normal player would never be able to find. Years back I'd be travelling around a zone, see something kind of cool and go check it out. But there was hardly ever a payoff, so I stopped doing that. -
Yeah, exploration is fun. I love when you go into a zone you don't normally go into and found a great waterfall or something.
I even have an adventurer/explorer character, I really should explore more with them -
The googles up and the smiling male face (face 11?).

Because I'm a misanthrope. Now, any other questions, dirtbag?
All kidding aside, I rarely lead teams because I feel like a cruise director when I do. I'm probably overreacting, but I worry if the team members are satisfied with the XP, the choice of missions, the general pace, etc. I like things done right, and I'm not confident to in my ability to lead properly.
It's weird, but the team leader role ends up seeming more like a waiter at a restaurant in my mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I get that. I make a team, and suddenly I start feeling like I've got to work for everyone else. A good leader listens to his team mates but does what they think is best, I listen to them and do what they want, which can cause problems if they disagree
Plus then there are the backseat leaders, who don't make a team but still tell you what to do. You could kick them, but then I feel like I might look like a bit of an idiot hole and then my team jumps out, and even if they don't what if I can't replace them? -
I prefer to follow than to lead. Plus I always seem to struggle to put a team together unless it's a Rikti or Zombie team in a busy zone.

So you're saying science has nothing to do with altering DNA, Transgendering, and all around molecular restructuring?
To me, that's a bucket load of science right there.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's one explanation you can use for the dramatic differences in costumes possible with the Super Tailor. Another is what I used for my Mind/Fire Dom: he's a shapeshifting demon, and his alternate slots that are dramatically different from his base costume are different forms he takes to deceive humans.
The point I'm trying to make is that the Super Tailor feature in and of itself didn't HAVE to be part of a themed booster, as the ability to drastically alter one's appearance is not something specific to Science origins.
That being said, I'm not really upset it was in the booster. I can understand where some might be frustrated though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's a general feature more than a science feature, I would prefer that if it was a paid thing it was in a general pack and the science pack had something more science-y.
I think I also wouldn't mind as much if we didn't also have less emotes/combat auras/costume change emotes than the other two.
Ah well, I'll live. Still a step up from the Wedding pack (Where if a person who only played male characters wanted the jacket with tails he basically had to pay for that alone) -

I'm curious as to what it would take to upset people when it comes to the boosters. Would you still be fine with it no matter what was put in them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Provided that the packs are good value for money and that we still get lots of free stuff I'm happy for their existence. The Wedding Pack was a poor value pack, Booster I and II were good. Not bought them, but I'm fine with them doing stuff like this.
Having said this, this one annoys me because it's the science booster pack, but the big feature isn't really science-related, it's just a feature that people have wanted for a long time. In a way this makes me think it's less of a value for money pack than the previous two, since people who want a science booster get the booster and a size changer they may not really want, and vice versa. I just wish they had put together a really good pack of SCIENCE, especially since we may not get another booster in this area.

Only as much as it could be from Tech, Mutation or Magic
I accept it has Science-y uses, but it's more of a general thing IMO.
I mean don't get me wrong, this will possibly be the first pack I will get. But for me, it's not as good for the science player as the magic or tech for the magic or tech players. I mean even if we put the size changer as the power in the pack (Even though it's not a power) and say the costumes are equal, we get less emotes than either, less auras than the Tech and less costume emotes than the magic. I just find this dissapointing. Hoping the natural and mutant packs get back on the BPI and II level.

How else are we going to craft the new Praetorian recipes that only work in Praetorian world?

I disagree, just because of the message it sends the devs. If they decide that lots of people will spend $10 if someone likes ANYTHING in the pack, how long until individual pieces cost $10? Some people would clearly be happy with that, and it'd cost them less to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I doubt enough people share my philosophy to make that a cost effective decision.
=P
Also, while my burning enthusiasm for the skull faceplate was my inspiration for buying the magic pack, if that's all they'd had on offer I'd probably have skipped it.
There was a lot of stuff I sorta liked, some stuff I wasn't that into, and the faceplate, which I really really loved.
The faceplate was the deciding factor, but getting the coats and hats and emotes and the power definitely factored in.

Oooh, well that's different then -

The only thing in this pack I care the least bit about is 4 pairs of the goggles.... but I dont know that those are enough to wangle $10.00 out of me. Those Death goggles sure are sweet, though. *thinks it over....*
[/ QUOTE ]
Even if you never use anything else (which I'm skeptical about- there's stuff in the Cyborg & Magic packs that didn't inspire me initially but which I eventually found uses for) $2.50 per goggle seems pretty reasonable.
I didn't buy the wedding pack because it didn't have anything that appealed to me. Ditto for the Mac pack.
But if there's ANYTHING I like in a pack, it's worth it to me.
Ten bucks is chump change- one movie ticket, a meal at a burger joint, a case of soda, a six pack of beer, a decent steak at the supermarket, two magazines, one paperback.

I can't see how it wouldn't be 2010. It's a paid expansion, it'll need more testing that a normal issue. How could anyone imagine it'd be out in a couple of months?
