In the multiple years I played EQ, we got exactly 2 zones for free.
I played EQ for five years, from its inception. In that time we got the three planes, the Warrens, Stonebrunt and Jaggedpine, plus revamps to Grobb (Gukta), Cazic, Splitpaw, Veeshan's Peak and probably others I'm forgetting. There were always new quests, items and such being added.
Marketing hype notwithstanding, CoX is perhaps slightly above average in terms of free content supplied as part of the subscription fee. In any case, what does this have to do with the issue? The wedding pack has to be evaluated on its own merits. The simple fact is they took something that used to be part of the service and put a separate price tag on it. If this is the way things are going to be then the value of a CoX subscription will go down.

When I was playing around with the new costumes last night, I was able to have a tux and cape at the same time on my female magician. Keep in mind though that it could be considered a bug and changed so capes are locked out like with the male models. There was a *lot* of clipping between the tux tails and cape.
[/ QUOTE ]Females can also have the veil with their tux... it seems the "one cape per character" rule got changed. Or else they really flubbed making the pieces mutually exclusive.

... Did they NOT just *give* us the Enforcer and Jester sets as a gift?! For free?!! SHEEEEESH!
Someone is being "greedy pure and simple"; not so sure its NCSoft.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree they did just give us those for free. However, if this is succesful then what I am afraid of is that the next time they want to add a jester set or an enforcer set they will put it in a $10 box and sell it to us.

As I've said, this isn't the first time we've seen "goody packs" and they haven't yet slacked off on the freebies because of them. They're historically rare and very optional and I see absolutely no reason to believe that they're changing that with this one.

Says you, I loved the content in AC. Every month you got something new to do and it was all part fo a huge storyline. It was engaging.

Read the majority of this thread now, and I must say..
I was expecting wedding gear this year, in fact, I was counting on it. I wasn't counting on [censored] paying for it. I'm pretty pissed off. I just don't have 10 dollars to spend on costume items. I can just afford to eat, my $15 a month for CoH is my goof off money, and I think it's well spent.
$5? I could have justified that. $10? What a [censored] ripoff.

Can't really count those as revamps, IMO. Swapping out the mobs doesn't really equate to a revamp like Faultline's revamp here.

Asheron's Call was more quality than quantity. You can't really put out a ton of new things on a month-to-month basis, but they offered tons of lore and depth using existing (if sometimes flawed) game mechanics.
Quarterly updates seem like a middleground between quality and quantity.

Damned straight. That game still has, to this day, the deepest, most intriguing and engaging lore of any game I have ever played, MMO or not. It was just a satisfying story. Everywhere you went, everything you did was somehow tied intrinsically to some story or group of stories. Almost everywhere you went, you would find notes on the ground left for those who might find it, or books on shelves (all respawning ), all filled with story and lore, and interesting stories, sometimes not even having to do with anything special, just interesting fluff. The Floating City was a good example. Just a really interesting place that was hard to find and fun to go to, nothing more, nothing less. I think the "Spear of the Given Heart" quest started in Rithwic is still to this day the best quest I've run in any game. So full of story, and emotion, and humanity. It was a very human story almost anyone could identify with.

I never had a problem with AC's story/lore. It was the gameplay....

Ah well, long as they don't start selling Powersets or the Villain Epic AT or new TFs for the low, low price of $9.99 (nickle and diming new content instead of just bundling up a pile of new content in a regular expansion) I don't mind too much.
Costumes aren't much different than the veteran costumes if you think about it. How much did you pay for boxing trunks and gloves? At least they're making them universally available if you go for costume pieces compared to the Never gonna get it rewards.

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.
$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?
HUGE rip-off.
[/ QUOTE ]
You seem to have your terminology comfused. Where you said "huge rip-off", you should have said "package I'm not interested in". Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean it's a rip-off. Those of us who like it will buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. No rip-off there.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd still call it a huge rip-off. I have absoloutely 0% interest in every in the pack except the tuxedo, which I really want. For me, it's $10 for a single costume piece, a.k.a. huge rip-off.
I sincerely hope NCSoft doesn't make this costume pack thing a new habit.

"Rip-off" implies that they're promising more than they're delivering for the price. If it's worth it to you, buy it. If not, don't. That's what it comes down to. There is no "rip-off" here.

I'm sorry if I'm interrupting your "This pack aint worth the monies" debate, but I thought those that have purchased the pack might find this interesting. I'd just like to point out a Bridal Veil Work Around.
You can set the colors of the interior of the veil by using the "copy colors to all" button. This means you need to change all your other colors back manually, but now you know how to change the interior of your viel.
You working class Americans and all your disposable income! Bah! When will there be an open source version of this wedding pack I can download?

Honestly, I don't like the look of either "lacy" outfit (they make me throw up a little), nor do I care for the fact that the back of the veil corresponds to hair color (that is just plain stupid). And the dresses just bore me.
The emotes are so event specific and generic (the throws are all same) that they're unlikely to be used much.
The tuxes are cool.
So, two tux options for $10? No thanks.
I mean, really, have you seen the costume thread? If you want me to shell out x-tra dough, put a more comprehensive package together, and make it worthwhile.
bah!

Gah! So much "I don't like what's in it, so I think its not only a rip off but that no one else should have it!"
Holy dawg. You know what? The developers put stuff I don't give a damn about in CoX, *all the time.* This does not mean I think no one else should have it, nor am I going on a rant about how content I don't like is a "rip off," 'cause ZOMG! Ten bucks is the end-all, be-all of my personal universe! Or OMG! I had to pay a $15 subscription for the month they put in content I don't care about.... stop the presses! RIP OFF!
Let's get real here: you spend ten bucks in five minutes picking up your order at the local take-out Chinese place. Ten bucks ain't nothin'. It's chump-change. It's lunch money.
The best part is, if you don't like the pieces you don't have to give the developers your ten bucks. Win-win here, people. Never seen so much grief over cool new costume pieces since the recipe-debacle. [And this ain't that, so celebrate.]
Or don't buy the pack; whichever suits your fancy. Its a wonder the developers don't fling their hands into the air and shelve whatever cool thing they're working on next, in a fit of pique. I would not blame them if they did, no matter *what* they do its DOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Ten dolloars is a days worth of meals. not lunch money. If your the sort of person who routinely flushes ten dollar bills down the toilet then your not the kind of person resonable people can relate to anyway.
Up until now Costume pieces and emotes were part of the normal content we have added now and again. Now they are wanting us to pay 10 dollars (which costs about half as much as most full fledged expansions cost) on 2 costumes and 4 emotes. There is nothing overly special about these as compared to the Jester and Enforcers sets.
Next month are we going to have a couple new niche sets for ten dollars? what about next month? Are we going to have to pay 50 dollars for Issue 12, which will have way more features than this pack will? If you answer noo then explain why not. Using the word Precident will invalidate your answer.
I won't be getting it. IF it was cheeper I might see my way towards grabbing it. 10 dollars may not be a whole lot of money in the grand scheme of things but I don't reoutinely go around paying 10 dollars for a 20 oz bottle of pop either.

THIS pack is not. There's no new versions of the game that came with it. This is content that, before now, would have been given out as the holiday bonus. Now we have to pay for it.
BAD THING.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't see the big difference regarding GvE. An updated DVD disc for both games versus my original copies of CoH and CoV, plus the $10 GvE goodie pack...why that makes a difference in what they can get away with, I'm not entirely sure.
I'm perfectly willing to agree that $10 is slightly too pricey (somewhere closer to $4.99 - $7.99 would've flown better), however.
I'm also alarmed, though not panicked by this concept. Again, they're most likely testing the waters and hopefully they'll realize that only 1 bonus pack a year is probably for the best.
I also hope that they'll think a bit harder about the composition of such packs. As was mentioned before, the tuxes scream magician, and I don't think it's entirely fair that a costume piece with that sort of extraneous use is pay-locked. (It's a similar complaint to that I have with the Cabal Hat and the theoretical possibility of the Roman set being pay-locked.)
Additionally, I think they goofed a bit in this case and underestimated how much of a clamor new costume parts, period, causes.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you said works for me
I do wonder if a lot of the negative reaction stems from how sudden this is. It's only recently that we got a big long message from the devs telling us about the future, I think if we had been told then that they were looking at doing packs of non-essential items for a fee and that it's not taking away from the standard user, it would have softened the blow.
