None of my (de)buffers mash healing buttons. All of them tank... or at least, jump in and take the alpha... or at least try to...

some of them do it better than others.

my Emp/Energy/Psy does it pretty well, because he's got Tough, Mind over Body, a fair amount of defense, and a healthy dose of regeneration for when things look bad.

On the opposite end, my Energy/Pain does not take an alpha so well, I suspect once he hits 41 and can get scorpion shield that will change (only 38 now)

my D4 solos 8 man spawns, a bit slow, but without any fear.

My Rad/Son... well, he likes fallout, so usually he'll let other people take the alpha
  2. If you're not a healer, you're useless...

what? Someone had to say it
  3. people put a lot of emphasis on -regen, when -resist is just as effective against an AV/GM

I've been on GM teams where the only significant form of debuff was a sonic blaster. Yes, a Storm defender can put out at least the same numbers as a blaster. If you are really concerned about it, though, I'd consider going Storm/Sonic to ensure lots of -resist.

    1. Cottage rule, the devs won't change the basic function of a power.
    2. EMP arrow is an AoE hold, which is pretty much an AoE Blind
    3. PGA has a sleep component, which is the other aspect of an AoE Blind
    4. you'd have to drop the power *way* down on the list (like tier 9) for it to be allowed, and quite frankly, that goes back to Cottage rule, and, oh yeah, at tier 9, TA has an AoE hold

  5. my Earth/Storm (lvl 50) spams Stone cages almost always.

then again, when everything is held and/or stunned, Tornado is better damage than Earthquake is mitigation.
  6. He is specifically looking at circles, which, if I recall, in CO Buff your team and/or Debuff your enemy

That being said, it sounds like he wants a Controller, Defender, or Corrupter.

So, your buff sets that will most fit into the "circle" thing are

    Sonic Resonance
    Storm Summoning
    Dark Miasma
    Thermal Radiation
    Force Field
    Cold Domination

Mixed with really any controller primary or the following blast sets for Defenders or Corrupters

    Dark Blast
    Electric Blast
    Energy Blast
    Fire Blast - Corrupter only
    Ice Blast
    Psychic Blast - Defender Only
    Radiation Blast

    Skipping EMP?

if you;re considering stealthing missions, your best bet is going to be to pick up Super Speed, probably by dropping shockwave.

Also, I think you'll find if you have perma AM that you don't need stamina, so you can snag leadership, something always nice.
  8. actually, hypothetically, swinging would be possible within the current engine, the devs just have refused to do it because "it would look silly" which, if you've ever played that ...other... superhero MMO you know exactly what they're talking about watching lines go out into the middle of an empty sky just looks wrong.

as for Superspeed and running on walls, the devs have stated that they'd have to re-code every vertical surface in the game to allow running on it.

  10. you'd be looking at a defender set that can increase its own damage in the primary

    therefore, Kin, Rad, Dark, TA

And a good AoE secondary, depending on the primary

    Arch
    Rad
    Dark
    AR

Kin would not work particularly well with Dark or AR because they rely heavily on cones and Kin works best in melee range.

if you went kin, you'd likely want to go psy mastery for mass hypnosis

otherwise, dark for soul drain, *maybe* power for PBU

I doubt this will change much of anything in terms of policy against gold farmers, but it almost legitimizes the business.
it really doesn't, though, because US companies don't really give a hoot about how a civil case is handled in another country.

The development of the Shield powerset required the creation of a NEW set of animations for each melee set that limited the attack to one hand. Thus, for instance, Energy Melee with the pink pom poms generates only one pom pom and uses only that fist when carrying a Shield. The Barrage attack, which normally uses both fists, will use only one fist, and change the animation so it takes the same amount of time, but doesn't strike twice. (Or it strikes twice with the same hand, I haven't tried the combo to know that)

What this means is that in theory there could be a combination of Claws with Shield, BUT THAT CLAW WOULD HAVE TO BE ON ONLY ONE HAND. Your claws would spring out of the right hand, not the left one. Likewise, Spines would have to spring out of your right arm and body, but your left arm would either have to be bare, or the spines would need to be adapted to avoid clipping with the sheild.
Yes, the solution sounds simple, and I'm sure the devs have thought about it, because, let's face it, it's a pretty obvious solution. My assumption is, however, that weapon sets don't function the way other power sets do, rack it up to weapons customization changing the way it functions, but odds are the only way to do it would be to completely re-make the set a second time using just a single node to make it work. It still doesn't solve Dual Blades' issue.

    Quote:
    Now, #2:

In addition to the above, physical weapons attached to the wielder have to be attached at a node. The pink pom poms are not a physical weapon, they are an effect overlaid over the character model. Likewise, the sword summoned by Fire Sword is (I believe) not a true sword, it is simply a particle graphic. Weapons are separate entities with their own wireframe and texture that are "connected" to a player model at a "node".

So again, the Claws, if they were to be used with a Shield, would have to be attached to only one hand. Claws as a set, however, is designed around having TWO claws, each attached to a node. Dual Blades is the same. It could be possible to have Dual Blades essentially become Broadsword when a Shield is added, but that's probably not possible, because removing a weapon from a node is a much more difficult task than removing a graphic from one arm or the other. You wouldn't be able to make Claws or Dual Blades would with Sheilds without removing the blade from the left arm for ALL players.
ok, so here you're just saying what I just replied, so you're really countering your own argument, which makes my head hurt a bit.
  13. so... you want an AoE hold power available at level 1 for defenders?

    Thinking about Mind/FF. Advice?
Yep, do it! my Namesake is a Mind/FF and I have fallen in love with the combo many times over.

that being said, let me look at your build.

Terrify: I personally have it slotted 3 Acc/Rech, 3 Peroxisomes

since you're planning on HOs anyway, just slot veng with 3 Membranes

    get some To-Hit in tactics!

Confuse is probably overslotted, I've got 5 slots in it for the purple set, otherwise, you probably don't need more than 4 slots

I'm throwing repulsion Bomb into your build, it's decent AoE damage and it also provides a little extra control (I personally went with Fissure for my Epic AoE because it stacks for more stuns)

Here's what I would do differently

So, I finally got my Cold/Ice defender up to 41 tonight and picked up PBU because I heard how amazing it is with Benumb's -special

But, I want to know, what's all the hubbub over? I don't seem to notice *that* much of a difference in normal game play (though it amused me to see the healing Nictus in the ITF heal for less than before)

What is affected by it? is it just a couple things, or is it everything in the -special, in which case, is it really all that useful for a purely PvE player? looking at my planned build, it doesn't seem to matter if I keep it or drop it, odds are I'd either get Aim or break down and actually get a travel power if I were to drop it.

  25. I understand you are running entirely hypothetically, Arcana, and I'm trying to imagine a way in which someone could either make or beat this time, and I come to two conclusions

    1. it would have to be a MM with damage enhancing powers, /dark has an early start, but I think Storm, TA, or possibly Therm might take the advantage in the higher game. Picking the highest damaging primary would be the only possibility (not sure which one that is)

    2. It is not possible to reach your +2 boss condition, simply because AE would be the only way to fight an almost constant stream of such enemies, but if that was all you fought, you would lose XP because of the anti-farming measures that were implimented.
